Okay, paying $4.50 for a single, I said "this better be good". Then I saw average reviews and lowered my expectations. good thing, because this beer isn't bad at all. I know I have not tried Wisconsin Belgian Red, but this is what i would expect. Nice sour notes and enough cheery flavor to hit the spot. Not sure of any realy flaws. Founders always does it right.

Pours a complete ruby red with a slight hint of orange. Pretty good looking beer, and if it weren't for the cloudy chill haze, it would have very nice, ruby clarity, too. The light-pink colored head dissipates quickly and doesn't leave much behind in terms of lacing.
The initial nose of this beer, as you may expect, is full of cherries, along with some other common "berry" smells. Almost like wildberry smoothie. Slight chalky and medicinal notes to the smell, a tad off-putting. Slight must in the tail end... Might be attributed to dryness from the grains? It has potential, but the "off" aromas are really bringing things down.
With the first sip, you are greeted by a heavy and tart cherry flavor; sweet, and even borderline sour. Almost makes you pucker, but it isn't *quite* there. A very refreshing flavor reminiscent of cherry sweet-tarts up front. The flavor goes a bit awry, however, from the middle-to-the end. The cherries take on a slightly artificial, medicinal, and chalky flavor. The class "Flintstones Vitamin" aftertaste.
The more you drink, the more that chalky mouth feel and weird, borderline-astringent aftertaste starts to wear on your palate. I mixed the rest of my Cerise with some Breakfast Stout and it wasn't half-bad. More enjoyable than regular Cerise. I know they use Michigan cherries for this brew, so why does it scream "artificial"? Thin bodied with ample carbonation and a crisp, slick, chalky mouth feel.
I don't know why this beer is not good. Rübæus is great - pure, fresh, natural. Cerise should essentially be the same damn beer, only with cherries. Wrong. Something happened and the flavor/aroma is plagued with off-putting components like vitamins and chalk. One of Founders' weakest offerings. Just wait for Rübæus to be released.

Bottled on 5/8/12
a: This is a beautiful orange tinged, red ale with fairly good clarity. The long lasting off-white head picks up a slight pink hue.
s: The nose is fairly subtle on this beer with an initial moderately-low tartness in the aroma followed by moderate cherry aroma. There is a light malt sweetness and barely any hops aroma with just a hint of alcohol.
t: There is moderately cherry flavor with a moderately-high cherry tartness. The tartness is offset by a malty sweetness with the the balance slightly in favor of the tartness. There is just enough malt character and hops bitterness to let you know you're drinking a beer. Although it is somewhat sweet to start it ends with a dry finish.
m: This beer has a medium-high body with a moderately-low carbonation.
o: This is good beer with a pleasing cherry flavor and tartness with just the right balance of sweetness. The cherry flavor is spot on but I would like a stronger cherry presence in the nose.

Has a nice, pinkish-red rose color.
Cherry in the nose blends well with the crackerish malt and a hint of caramel and lavender.
Tastes quite a bit better than it smells with a blast of tart cherries up front and pleasant, sweet malt combining to make a nice experience. It has plenty of cherry without being medicinal and a hint of vanilla for a dessert like feel.
While it's not New Glarus or Cantillon, it's still a fine fruit/dessert beer.

A: split in 6oz sampler glasses with hu5om. a gorgeous translucent golden amber with no head but plenty of little bubbles.
S: a VERY faint aroma of bitter cherries, however smells more like an average champagne.
T: the bubblyness overwhelms the slight cherry and cinnamon flavors, though it is hard to compare when NG Belgian Red is your staple cherry beer.
MF/D: overly carbonated the minute it hits the tongue, dissipating the flavor rather quickly. founders should probably stick with their excellent stouts.

Notes from 6/20/10; 2010 bottling
Pours with minimal head; translucent brown with reddish tint.
The smell is tart cherries, though more subtle than I would have thought.
Taste is tart cherries and more tart cherries initially; some hints of malt; tartness turns to sweetness on the finish.
Mouthfeel is crisp and clean with nice carbonation.
Almost no alcohol presence; pretty easy drinking, and I'd return to this occasionally in the summer, but wouldn't want more than one at a time.

12oz bottle. Pours glowing hazy reddish orange with a small head that quickly goes to a thin collar.
The aroma is some bready malts, a little spice and slightly tart sweet pie cherries.
The flavor is sweet pie cherries with a little tartness and a little wood. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, it's all about the sweet cherries. Too sweet and one-dimensional for me. A poor man's New Glarus Belgian Red.

Pours a pommegranette color with a small, light pink head. Smells of lightly tart cranberries. Tastes of light tartness, cherries, kind of like a wine cooler actually. Mouthfeel is light medium, decent carbonation, semi dry finish. Fairly drinkable if your into this type of stuff, it's crisp anyhow. Pretty refreshing.

Twelve ounce bottle pours a cloudy, pink grapefruit juice shaded body with a skimpy pinkish head that quickly drops to a film.
Aroma is muted, with only some hints of musty yeast and cherries.
Light medium body has subdued carbonation.
Taste has a nice tart and sweet cherry base. Notes of malt and yeast are also present, but that's about it.
Decent, but I doubt I would buy it again. I've never been a fan of Founders fruit beers and this one doesn't change my opinion.

Pours half a finger of a tight white bubbled head. Clear reddish pink body. Very good lacing clings to the glass. A small cap and ring of lacing remain.
Smells of tart cheery and cranberries. Bready yeast and sweet malts are there as well.
Tastes like a tart cherry-cranberry champagne. Again some bready yeast and sweet clean malts mix in nicely. Fairly dry and puckering on the finish.
Medium thin bodied. Medium carbonation. Somewhat coating as it goes down with a lingering tart cherry finish.
Overall this is a solid malt beverage. Fairly simple flavors, tart cherry and malty sweetness. I'd get this again on a hot summer day if I had access to this regularly.
$2 a single.

Appearance: high carbonation, medium head that fades away, clear fruit punch red
Smell: sour cherry
Taste: sour cherries dominate--some malt
Mouthfeel: very smooth, I can feel the carbonation on my tongue. A slightly sweet and sugary aftertaste that is borderline syrupy.
Drinkability: This is an above average fruit beer but nothing I feel is spectacular. I feel Rubeaus is a better drink. I will have this again and could have two in a sitting but will not actively search for it.

Thanks to RBlaszak for sending me this bottle.
The beer pours a golden-orange color with a white head. The aroma has a ton of cherry syrup notes in it, as well as a hint of tartness. The flavor has a lot of tart cherries, as well as some syrupy sweetness. There is also a little bit of raspberry character and a hint of biscuit malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
