normally not a huge fruit-added beer fan (outside of lambics, and even then...), but my local shop allows you to build your own 6-pack, and i was feeling adventurous.
A: the color is surreal. red / orange / amber, but not really a blend, if that makes any sense. it's almost as if each color exists in the beer in parallel with the others. almost no head, despite a reasonably vigorous pour.
S: i don't smell the cherry until a little later -- the initial aroma is subtle malt. crisp and clean. the cherry is evident, but smells like real cherries, unlike other cherry beers out there (which are more like cherry soda).
T: the cherry flavor--like biting into a fresh one--is much more evident in the taste than in the smell. Little bitterness in the finish, otherwise smooth. Malt is masked by the cherry.
M: a little more carbonation than was evident in the head (or lack thereof). medium body, crisp. finish leaves your mouth puckering slightly.
O: i'm not a convert (wouldn't buy a 6-pack) but i'm glad i tried this. certainly wouldn't turn it down if offered one. for the style, nice work, Founders.
