Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The Founders Centennial IPA pour a transluscent amber into the glass, creating an off-white head that clings to the glass. That head forms nice lacing along the edge of the glass.
The aromas that come from this beer are first and foremost made up of a beautiful Centennial hop pungentness. It contains an earthiness as well as hints of pineapple, citrus, and even a little bit of fresh-cut grass.
This beer tastes wonderful with lots of hops up front that mellow into a light breadiness. Malts peak through to help balance the acidity. The alcohol makes its presence known at the end while the finish is long and bitter.
The beer has good carbonation, making its medium body feel fuller than it is - it gives the beer more of a creamy texture, especially before the head dissipates.
The beer has everything I like in an IPA: lots of hop presence and acidity, a balanced center, and a nice, bitter finish. This makes the drinkability pretty high for this beer. Founders knocks it out of the park, again proving why it's one of my favorite breweries.

Love Founders's beers and decided to give this one a try. Here goes:
A: Not good or bad; just OK in my book. Pours a clear orange with a very, very small head. The carbonation is somewhat lacking, but the lacing is actually very good.
S: Not good. I had to stick my nose deep down into this in order to get any smell. Normally, the hops in IPA's are robust and easily detectable by the nose. Not so in this case. Can smell a hint of grapefruit and orange but nothing else.
T: Despite the nose being lackluster, the taste was excellent. Very well balanced. Taste is initially one of grapefruit, lemon and orange followed by nice amber and caramel malts. Very balanced for an IPA. I figure the malt backbone indicates why the ABV is high.
M: Great. Many IPA's are loose and watery as they focus only on hops. This beer is very thick for an IPA and I love it! Limited carbonation but the thickness more than makes up for this.
O: Was skeptical from the appearance and smell, but the taste and mouthfeel were exquisite.
