A: A deep golden color. It has a white airy head that dissipates after a few minutes. It leaves a very fine lacing around the glass.

S: Blasting with citrus and zest. Orange peel, grapefruit and lemon zest. Intoxicatingly floral! There's malt in there somewhere, but my olfactory glands are too busy huffing the Centennial hop explosion.

T: This is a thoroughbred malt and hop beer. The hops pound your tongue and enliven your palate. The malt profile is clean and simple, bready and brisk. It has a distinct floral bite that dictates the front, middle and finish of this beer.

M: It's not as astringent as you might think. It's docile, yet heavy and charasmatic on the tongue. There are some tannins, but this is to be expected with an ale of this nature.

D: Great beer. Very drinkable.

Love Founders's beers and decided to give this one a try. Here goes:

A: Not good or bad; just OK in my book. Pours a clear orange with a very, very small head. The carbonation is somewhat lacking, but the lacing is actually very good.

S: Not good. I had to stick my nose deep down into this in order to get any smell. Normally, the hops in IPA's are robust and easily detectable by the nose. Not so in this case. Can smell a hint of grapefruit and orange but nothing else.

T: Despite the nose being lackluster, the taste was excellent. Very well balanced. Taste is initially one of grapefruit, lemon and orange followed by nice amber and caramel malts. Very balanced for an IPA. I figure the malt backbone indicates why the ABV is high.

M: Great. Many IPA's are loose and watery as they focus only on hops. This beer is very thick for an IPA and I love it! Limited carbonation but the thickness more than makes up for this.

O: Was skeptical from the appearance and smell, but the taste and mouthfeel were exquisite.

This one snuck up on me!

I wasn't expecting such a deliciously refreshing ale from founders. I typically enjoy their stouts and haven't tryried many others.

This is right up there with the best apa's I've tried.

The smell is amazing with some characteristics that are hard to explain. Completely unique!

Bottom line- If you see this on the shelf, buy it!
