Founders IPA is great and is what I like in an IPA.

Nice copper color when poured with a great head.

Hops flow from this beer along with a nice citrus aroma.

The taste is wonderful and hoppy, with hints of orange. Not overly bitter from the hops but they are definitely there.

Mouth feel is smooth and great.

I would have this almost every night if I could get it in Iowa. Felt good after one since it has a nice 7.2 ABV.

Bottled within last 2 months

Poured slowly, decant. Minimal head. Light pumpkin orange color. Clear.

Aroma is mostly the grapefruit. little bit of bready malt. Nothing really strong in the nose but hints as to what is to come.

Taste again citrus and grapefruit up front. Nice bit of bitterness rounds the hop profile. Bread and crackers on the malt bill among with a touch of caramel sweetness. Back end grassy hops.

Moderate carbonation, and moderate body. A bit syrupy, slick.

This was one of my first IPAs a couple years ago. Glad I got to finally review. This one is an old reliable for me. Hits all the aspects I like. Some sweetness, some citrus, some bitterness. All work together in this beer.

I had heard and heard about this beer, I dismissed it for a long while, then tried it. I am not from Michigan but they make some damn good beers in general. In fact I have never even been there, but some UP girls are wild!

This beer was a disappointment, I like the style but this one had too much malt, maybe Total wine and the room temp storage killed it.

Appearance: Beautiful, like I said the red ale thing is a thing of beauty but also a sign of mediocrity. I have heard how great this beer was from so many people, but it is not Two Hearted.

Smell: Average at best, sweet, not much in the hop category, I didn't detect any dating on this one but it may have been beyond the best by date. Anyway, it was sweet and nothing special going on in my opinion, I will have to try another, because this one was ho hum.

Taste: About the same as the smell really nothing spectacular, the build up was a disappointment.

Overall: This beer was a disappointment. It was a good beer, but not the level people give it, I have had phenomenal beers and this one was solid average.

12oz can poured into a pint glass.

A: Amber/orange in color, and a few shades darker than the average for the style. Healthy off white head retains well at a half inch. Light rings of lacing.

S: Lemon drop candy, sweet sticky bud, tangerine and other tropical fruits. Juicy fruit gum. Substantial malt base smells of caramel with subtle whiffs of candy shell.

T: Dank and earthy up front, but the hop tastes soon begin to divulge tangerine, lemon head candy, and maybe even passion fruit. Bitterness is firm but gentle. The malt body is a bit big-boned and brings things into balance, which is by no means a bad thing. Caramel, marmalade, light toast, and perhaps a bit of candy apple shell. The finish is very balanced and mellow, but leaves a lot of flavor lingering. Dank earthy hops, tropical fruits, and caramel.

M: Hefty medium body. Malt textures are full, silky, and a bit chewy, though it sits rather lightly in the stomach. Ample carbonation has just a bit of a crisp bite that barley cuts through the malt body. Lightly astringent. Awesome texture, it really glides over the tongue.

O: This is one of those great IPAs that manages to please the drinker with a boatload of hop flavor, yet counter it perfectly with a malt body that holds its own. It strikes the perfect balance between hop bitterness and malty sweetness, and is absurdly drinkable because of this. This is tasting amazing coming from the can.

Poured a little amber in color with a tiny tight head. There wasn't a lot of bouquet from this one. I expected a bit more hoopy and citrus/grapefruit aroma from this one considering the IBU.

It was very clean and crisp with a light delightful taste. The after taste was clean

Overall a nice beer from founders, cant find anything wrong with it, but on the other hand I cant sing its praise

Tasted this one again from a can. I was more than totally happy and surprise with just how much I enjoyed this beer.
It had a fair amount of hops, nothing over the top, but just enough to give you that pleasant dry flavor. The aftertaste was lingering and totally enjoyable.
This beer moved up for me.
