Founders Centennial IPA is a cloudy, amber ale with a soft, smooth, cream colored head that has great retention and lacing. It has a big, grassy, floral, fruity, pine aroma. It's medium bodied and smooth with a chalky finish. It has a nice, bitter, pine resin flavor. It tastes a little peppery with a hint of juniper. The pine bitterness lasts long after the finish. This is solid and bitter.

Founder's Centennial IPA pours a deep copper-amber color with a slightly orange tint to it. A decently sized off-white head leaves pretty nice lacing all the way down the glass. The nose... the nose is great. It hits you with so many things at once while remaining in a perfect harmony. Not only that, the profile develops noticeably as the beer warms up, remaining consistent and elegantly balanced all the way. Full of hops, very floral and oily, also very fruity and citrus-like; grapefruit and orange being the most dominant at first. Upon closing my eyes and taking a deep whiff, it can actually be very reminiscent of a bowl of Fruit Pebbles (with, of course, hop accents). As it warms up, lemon starts to come out in the citrus flavors and it garners a bit of lemon grass tea type aromas. So simple, yet very complex.

Upon tasting, the palette is hit with a profile not far from the aroma concoction - the flavor is full of hops and hop oils, a touch of floral elements, and heavy citrus, including grapefruits, oranges, and lemon zest. The fruit and citrus hits you first, followed closely by the floral flavors from the hops which take over halfway through. Although mildly undetectable on the nose, near the end of the sip (and the warmer the beer gets), some malts and caramel-like sweetness start to come out. You're left with a 50-50 mix of fruitiness and bitterness on your tongue which work so well together, you won't believe it until you try it. Medium-thick body. slightly chewy, leaves a mild stickiness in your mouth.

This is what should define an American IPA. Never has another AIPA wowed me so much with it's complex-yet-simple flavor and aroma profiles quite like this one. At a perfectly tamed and masked 7.2% ABV, it remains so drinkable, also partially due to the wonderful checks-and-balances in flavors. I love this beer. The one major drawback, is that the beer must be very fresh. After 8 weeks from the bottling date, the hops really start to fade and the malt becomes overpowering. This is true for most IPAs, but I feel like it's more prominent in this one. It really shines when it's super fresh.

Pours a rich amber -- the colour of good honey. No head to speak of is what knocks it down a little bit for me, though it is still a beautiful brew: signs of things to come.

Some honey sweetness drizzled over biscuit malts with that piney resinous hop backbone.

The taste follows the nose fairly faithfully. Certainly a good amount of hops, but balanced in the middle of the palate by the sweet malts. Bittering finish dictates the aftertaste.

This brew had been hyped up for me (not really available where I am), and while I wouldn't label it life changing it is certainly an excellent IPA. I would whole heartedly recommend finding it if you can and giving it a try.

This poured with a single fingers head that was gone in seconds. It has a nice orange like copper coloring that is almost bright. The scent of this IPA is perhaps the nicest I have ever smelled. You can catch the floral, fruity, hoppy notes but it smelled like a lemon iced tea to me. Perhaps that is why I rate the taste lower is the anticipation. It fell rather flat as I got subtle hints of hops and citrus but it was rather unremarkable. I kept taking sip after sip waiting for it to live up to the scent and it never did.
