A: Pours amber with a one finger head that slowly fizzes away.

S: Citrus and floral notes and a bit of earthiness.

T: Mellow citrus flavors followed by a hoppy bitterness on the exhale.

M: Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Oily and smooth- goes down easy.

O: Great tasting IPA. Goes down easy and offers a nice mixture of citrus flavors and a hoppy exhale.

A - Beautiful orangy amber color. Only a little head but it sticks around for awhile.

S - not a super strong hoppy aroma that you get from powerful IPAs. A little citrusy too.

T - at first sip I got a strong bitter taste. So much so I was worried my glass had some residual soap in it but after trying a 2nd one in a different glass it tasted the same. Too strong of a citrus taste for my palate - almost like biting into a lemon.

O - I'm a certified hop head and love the Founders Breakfast Stout but this one disappointed me.

Maybe I got a bad batch b/c everyone seems to love this brew?

Retried this IPA tonight and it was citrusy and piney and delicious. My first batch was off. Great beer. 9/10

I bought a 6 pack of this ale in a neighborhood grocery store for about $10. I have had two of the bottles so far and have been generally satisfied, though not overwhelmed.

The beer pours to a pleasant amber color, with some cloudiness. It does not have an overwhelming smell, though I picked up hints of some floral smells. It made a small head when poured into a pint glass.

The taste is nice, more balanced than I expected. As a fan of hops, I thought this IPA would be more bitter, but it's not. I liked it and would readily drink this beer, but it was somewhat surprising. The 7.2% ABV is actually a negative for me, though it did not taste of alcohol, particularly, as some 2X beers do. Still, it limits the length of a session, eh?

got this as part of a trade
poured into a pint glass.

Appearance is an orange amber with an off-white head that is at least 1.5 fingers thick. the lacing is good and the head dissipates into some sticky lacing at the edges and an upturned saucer of foam in the middle.

Smell is quit biscuity and then there are some great piney and citrus notes from the hops in there, nothing over powering, but all in all well balanced.

tasted like it smelled, a good wash of the hops up front that kills the palate and then the biscuits smooths it over with som biscuit style malt backbone.

good medium mouthfeel with a good amount of carbonation

overall a good, enjoyable every day ipa.

poured into deschutes snifter

appearance: golden brown hue, moderate opacity, thin white head

aroma: hints of pine and citrus, typical ipa nose

palate: mild carbonation, the ibus stick out tho and sting the tongue, you also notice the 7.2%

taste: nice hoppy flavors, fairly bitter kick to it, and im getting some sweet candy aftertaste thats a nice touch

overall: so im a little bummed i forgot to check the bottled on date, as this one was bottled on 10/14/11. not too old, but not as fresh as i would have liked. maybe it affected my scoring, but i still think this is a very nice ipa overall. founders really does nothing bad

From notes on 12/28/2011

4/5 Pours out a nice dark orange in color with a finger, white head with OK retention.

4/5 Smell is a nice citrus - grapefruit, mango, pineapple, etc. with a little pine. The sweet malts smell of caremal and really balance things out.

4/5 Taste is really nice with everything in the nose as mentioned but the pine is a little stronger as the beer is swallowed. The citrus and malt bill really come through here.

4/5 Mouthfeel is medium and really nice for the style. Carbonation is perfect.

Get ready to bask in the glory of the frothy head's floral bouquet. Relish the citrus accents from the abundance of dry hopping. This one's sweet, yet balanced. Malty undertones shake hands with the hop character for a finish that never turns too bitter.

Cloudy amber in appearance. Very sour smell, not very inviting. There are some hints of hops in the nose. Lacks bitterness and has a very acidic taste. The mouthfeel is does not fall short of the taste. There is a slight sweetness at the end of the swallow. It does leave the tongue ok, but we have had better. Overall this is an average IPA and with a little work it could be good. Falls short of our expectations.
