A-pours a little bit cloudy, orange amber color with an off white foamy head that clings to the side of the glass and has excellent retention
S-Tons of oranges, lemon, honey, slightly floral in the background
T-Citrus flavors show up up front and are quickly followed by pine and floral bitterness, leaving a bit more citrus in the finish
M-medium bodied with average carbonation
O-Very hoppy IPA but still remains balanced without having the malt contribute a ton to the flavor. Nice and complex bitterness that provides alot of layers. Very well crafted

Bottled 05/21/12

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with almost no head

S: Floral hops are at the forefront of the aroma, along with some pale malts. Some citrus as well, but not nearly as much as the floral aspect of the hops

T: Talk about some floral hops going on here... wow! Reminds me of Flower Power. Some malts back up the hops, as well as some lemony/citrusy hops. These both take a back seat, but help to balance out the floral hops quite a bit. Finishes bitter, but not too much so

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not too slick, though which is not what I expected with this much hop power

O: If you like flowery hops, this beer is spot on for you. Pretty much right down the middle in terms of being bitter yet gets that hop fix right in the mouth. Perfect for an anytime IPA

We don't get this on the west coast but I happened to be in KC and found a six to try. The bottles were dated 4-12-12 so this is still nice and fresh.

P- Two inch foamy off white head that seems to be holding a half inch cap. Coats the glass nicely. Clear light amber color with an orange hue.

N- Floral and citrus hops with some very light bready malt later on.

T- Strong bitter hops up front which lingers all the way through. Floral and herbal notes come through in the middle with some biscuity malt sweetness in the background but the bitterness seems to coat the tongue and dominates.

M- Medium body, a bit rough around the edges.

O- Another well made American IPA but there is nothing to set it apart from the pack.

I had a pint of Founders Centennial IPA at Kramer's Books and Afterwords in Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C. A classic American IPA, I'm glad I'm finally getting around to giving this one a proper review.

Appearance (3.75/5): Centennial isn't the most gorgeous beer around–it's a pretty typical looking American IPA. A large two finger white head tops a dull reddish-copper body. Sticky lace all over the glass as I drink.

Smell (4/5): From the get go the keyword for this beer is balance. The pronounced floral quality from the hops is counterbalanced by the aroma of sweet, sticky caramel from the malts. The typical notes of pine and pink grapefruit spill forth, but the scent is sweeter than your average IPA. Terrific depth to go with the balance.

Taste (4.25/5): Again, very nice balance in this beer. Dominant flavors: floral, pine, and pink grapefruit rind with a sweet edge that cuts the bitterness. Superbly dry, hoppy finish, again giving off grapefruit accents. This is not a super bitter palate-wrecker. You get loads of hops, but a nice sweet caramel malt flavor pushes back.

Mouthfeel (4.25/5): A bit resinous/sticky in the foretaste and middle. This gives way to a bone dry finish. Carbonation is medium-low and the body is a hair above medium, since the malt is more pronounced in this one. This is an easy drinking IPA that I could easily have two–even three–of in one sitting. Its 7.2% ABV makes it less of a candidate for sessioning, though.

Overall (4.25/5): Founders Centennial IPA is the picture of balance in an IPA. It has the strong, flavorful hoppiness going on in parallel to a solid malt backbone while still achieving a great dry, bitter finish. It may not be the hottest IPA on the market, but it's always welcome in my fridge. Another go-to beer by Founders that also isn't too expensive at all. Two thumbs way up.

Bottle neck says this one was bottled on May 23, 2012. Super fresh! Poured into a pint glass. The color is clear very light amber, just a hint darker than gold. There is a half inch head that doesn't retain as well as I've seen other good IPA's.

The aroma smells like fruit punch, with mango, peach, and grapefruit aromas leading the way.

The flavor starts out with the fruity hop flavor. There is a distinct bitter grapefruit rind in the finish. Just enough sweetness comes from the malt to bring out the hop flavors.

This is medium bodied, with crisp carbonation.

This is very good. The best part of this beer is the date printed on the neck!

A- Light amber body with a frothy off-white head. Good lacing.

S- Floral hops, with hints of pine and citrus.

T- Hops are there, not overpowering though. Some malt backbone.

M- Smooth with low carbonation, leaves some hop stickiness.

O- A very good IPA that is very satisfying.
