Poured from bottle to pint.

Hazy amber body with a proper sticky head.

Pine/citrus in the nose. Bitter and semi-dry. Some cracker. A most wonderful East Coast style IPA nose.

Juicy, tart grapefruit and fresh pine. Biscuity malts that balance the taste. Long lasting hoppy finish with a light caramel taste from the grain. Exquisite.

The best quality here is the feel. Mouth-filling and juicy, with a peppery bite from the carbonation. Silky and most quaffable.

A great IPA from a great brewery, but not their best even (see Founders Harvest Ale).

Bottle shared by jayhawk73. Thanks buddy!

Bottled 12/16/2011

The beer is copper to orange in color with a quarter inch or so of off white head that leaves some decent lacing on the snifter. The aroma offers pine, resin, malt, alcohol. Very hop forward in the taste - more than I would have guessed given the aroma. Bold flavor, with lingering dank hops and pine. Medium bodied with solid carbonation. Nice feel. Lingering pleasant bitterness I look for within this style. Overall, a solid brew. Recommended.

A- Red to orange color. Lots of Carbonation bubbling up, nice head.

S- Hops. pine, citrus.

T- I am a fan at first sip. citrus and pine hops its a floral taste with, caramel, malt mixed in. bitterness lingers.

M- Sturdy body with a good amount of carbonation. It has a dry finish

O- Well balanced, The hops are pleasant and the mix of citrus makes a nice combination. I will buy a six pack next time.

A: Pours a cloudy reddish orange, modest head, some minor lacing.

S: Nice strong citrusy hop aroma.

T/M: Rich, bitter hops, layered flavors of citrus with some spicy accents. I never really knew what people meant by onion flavors in beer but I definitely detect some hints of that here, not overpowering or unpleasant at all, just a bit of an interesting flavor added to the mix. Very dry and smooth.

O: This is an interesting IPA where the dominant citrus hops flavors don't get too overpowering; it's pretty smooth and drinkable. Not my favorite IPA but definitely a very good one.

On tap at J. Ryan’s in Syracuse, NY. Poured to 10 or 11oz flute-ish mini-pint kind of glass—whatever the less-than-a-pint standard glass they use at J. Ryan’s is. Point is, it was clean and appropriate for the serving size.

Appearance (3.0): Clear, mid-range reddish amber. Bone-white head, relatively thin. Some lace, but not much.

Smell (3.5): Bit of a green, vegetal scent . . . bit of an orangey character. Mild, but not bad.

Taste (3.5): Same interesting spicy-vegetal note—can see why people say onion, but not necessarily in a bad way. Strong toasted grain character, very dry—no sweetness found here. Moderate but good bitterness, with a very neutral yeast presence, true to style. Lasting, somewhat vegetal finish again.

Mouthfeel (4.0): Smooth, light to medium body. Fluffy carbonation on the tongue, filling out the body nicely. Rather dry.

Overall (3.5): Maybe Centennial hops aren’t my thing. (I’m assuming they’re the namesake of this brew.) Don’t particularly dig the onion character, I guess. This beer hits the style well, if you like the hop character—decent beer, and I can understand why a lot of people like it, but it’s not for me.

Quaffed a few pints of this at The Kinsale yesterday with UncleAl prior to the Bs game...

Shaker pint glass, filled with a clear, richly copper-hued liquid. Head was thin and wispy, some fine white bubbles hanging on the edges, with traces of lace here and there. Nose is replete with rindy citrus action, a precursor of things to come. Medium-bodied, this IPA was also fairly smooth on the tongue.

Taste had some toasty malt adding some lightly sweet caramel flavors to the mix. Then there was lots of hoppy bitterness, with rindy, pithy notes along with a strong load of citrus. A solid, west-coast style IPA. Prosit!!

A: Pours slightly hazy, with a rich copper hue and a frothy white head that has excellent retention. Sticky lacing coats the glass and dries quickly.

S: Pungent hop aroma consisting of citrus, pine and some herbal notes, along with sweet notes of caramel and toast.

T: One of the most balanced IPAs out there. Sweet notes of caramel, toffee, and fresh bread up front, with a blast of floral, citrusy hop overtones. Finish is dry and fruity, with just a hint of sweet malty lingering behind.

Notes: Medium in body, with a slick, resinous mouthfeel that coats the palate and sticks around for some time. Drinkability is superb! Two-Hearted move aside. This Michigan IPA reigns supreme!
