I need this in my life. summer beer is usually so boring in the name of sessionability, and steers away from the hops I love. this one does not. its bright golden and clear with an inch or so of white head. the nose is gorgeous cut grass and citra hops, or something similarly fruity, with big grapefruit notes and a touch of lemon peel. the flavor is the same, lighter malt body, big bold hop flavor that avoids being overly bitter, but packs in just a ton of fresh hop flavor. it really in a brilliant brew, and the 4.7% is just about right, as the name suggests, for all day drinking. perfectly carbonated with aggressive bubbles, light but not watery on the body, and clean and refreshing in the finish. it wouldn't be quite sturdy enough for me during colder months, but this time of year I can think of very few beers I would rather get into. I like it ice cold right from the bottle the best, preferably on the boat. a beer drinkers summer beer. my mouth waters for this when its fresh and freezing, and there is nothing better on the golf course.

A: pours a clear honey with two fingers of white head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: loads of citrus here. Pineapple and grapefruit with some pine notes as well. Smells amazing, especially for such a low abv beer.

T: lots of grapefruit and pine with some pineapple and grassy notes as well. Nice and earthy.

M: medium-light body with medium carbonation, this beer is light, dry, and clean. Quite drinkable for such a hoppy beer.

O: a great IPA, especially with such a low abv. I could definitely drink these all day.

A-Pours a clear, gloomy honeyed hue. Head is a thin, bleached coat of fizz. Head leaves squiggles of lacing.

S-Aromatic. Citrus flesh and grass with lighter piney notes. Spicy and florally hopped as well. Sturdy base malt that reminds me of a sugared popover. Exciting.

T-Spicy tangerine flesh wrapped in flower petals. Those hoppy flavors fold into some moderately sappy pine then finish with a longwinded grassy note. All the while the wet biscuit-dough and cracker keep everything in check. The bitterness is initially pretty strong but it doesn't leave too much lingering on the palate.

M-All Day is right. Sessionable x10.

O/D-I knew I was going to love this. Flavorful all supremely drinkable. I will say that I enjoyed Lagunitas' DayTime IPA a bit more (comparing here is my unneeded comparison of session-IPAs) but this one rocks too. I have been waiting to try this and it didn't disappoint. Drinks easy but never skimps of complexity and quality.

Had this On tap at the brewery in the first week of April, 2011. Really enjoyed this beer, could session it easily.

A: Pretty semi clear orange color with a ring of foamy head. Not much lacing.

S: Nice citrus and tropical fruit hops with lemon bars to add sweetness. Almost like FFF in hop profile to me. Some fainter wheat malt in there as well. Refreshing.

T: Very flavorful for the ABV! Lemon grass, orange rind, nice malt backbone, and a crisp grassy hop end. An awesome session IPA.

M: Crisp and clean, light bodied. Very carbonated, a little too much for me, but it works.

O: Another great beer from Founders and one I would look for 6 packs of this summer if they release it (as I think they were planning to).

A: Golden with a light haze.

S: A strong citrus hop aroma with some pineapple, tropical fruit notes. There is a moderate amount of a herbaceous, grassiness from dry hopping and just a slight bit of malt sweetness.

T: This is a great hop delivery device, with strong citrus and tropical fruit flavored hops and a moderately-strong hops bitterness. The isn't much in the way of malt, just a light clean sweetness. The balance is bitter with a dry finish.

O: A great take in a lower abv IPA which highlights the hops even more than a maltier strong beer would.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. No bottling date can be seen.

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy copper golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid three fingers of white creamy head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A bright hop forward aroma with good citrus and floral hints. Citrus hops up front with hints of orange peel, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, and lemon. Also some earthy hints of floral hops and grass. Soft bready malts in the background with hints of biscuit, wheat grains, caramel, cracker, and yeast. Also a light hint of honey sweetness. A very nice juicy citrus aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a bright juicy citrus hop driven taste with some earthy grass. Solid taste of citrus esters up front with notes of oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, tangerine, apricot, and lemon. Also in the hop mix is some biting pine resin, grass, and floral hops. Solid backing of soft malt sweetness with a taste of biscuit, wheat grains, caramel, cracker, yeast, and a slight taste of sweet honey. A very solid West Coast style tasting IPA.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly drying feel. Pretty smooth and crisp.

Overall: A very solid West Coast style session IPA. Very good citrus flavor. Impressive for the low ABV.

appearance: clear, light gold. Pretty frothy white head and some messy lacing.
smell: Huge for a "little" guy. Biting, bitter grapefruit with some citrus and floral notes softening the bite.
taste: Again, very big taste for a 1/2 IPA. Crisp and full flavored.
overall: Gotta confess, I'm a go big (DIPA) or go home guy. Give me HopSlam or Unearthly or 90 minute. Two hearted is about as "light" as I wanna go. But this is as well done a "small" IPA as I can imagine.

Poured from a 12 fluid ounce bottle into an IPA glass. No freshness date.

Appearance: A modest white head forms above a golden amber body. The body is hazy but translucent. It looks very pleasant when held up to light.

Smell: Citrus drenched hops. Minor notes of bready grains.

Taste: The bitterness from the hops hits the tongue first. Pretty straightforward citrus notes... grapefruit in particular. Malts were there, just did not give off significant notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation. Medium-Light body.

Overall: All Day IPA is a pretty straightforward IPA. The hops are not as wild as other varieties but they pack a clean, fresh punch that makes this beer enjoyable to drink. I would say this is a textbook example of a "weekend beer".

All Day IPA
12 oz brown bottle
Served in a 20 tulip glass

Pours a light copper orange with some yellow highlights on the bottom of the glass. A thin white circle for a head forms along the top of the pour. Random patterns of sticky lace cling to the glassware.

Floral aroma with some citrus whiffs and a baked vanilla cookie.

Toasted biscuit malt backbone with a pleasant citrus blast that opens and brightens the profile of this IPA. Subtle hints of lemon tart and orange juice sweetness each sip. The carbonation level is great too. A well crafted IPA that has an excellent drinkability level.

It's refreshing to have an enjoyable IPA that doesn't overpower the taste buds with an aggressive hop finish. This offering by Founders is appropriately named a "session ale" because I'm ready to pour another freshy.

First taste was served on tap at a July 4th fundraiser picnic. Served in plastic, disposable 16 ounce cups. While the serving didn't allow a complete feel for the beer, the citrus nose caught my attention. The beer's lighter body made it a worthy, refreshing accompaniment to the BBQ. Since then,I have had it served in both 12 oz bottle and can. Both of these servings were equal with no difference in qualities of the beer. A: golden color, poured a moderate head. (Bottle served in a pint glass and can was poured in an white wine glass). Smell: citrus nose (refreshing). Taste: citrus, grapefruit up front. Mild bitter finish. Mouthfeel: effervescent, no heavy hop after taste. Overall, I enjoyed this beer.

A - Glowing amber color, white head, lots of carbonation

S - Orange, citrus, hoppy

T - Lots of dry, citrus flavor up front, big bitter taste on the end, crisp and refreshing

M - Light bodied, good carbonation, bitter end to taste

O - I love this beer! Kind of a soft spot since visiting Founders this summer with the family. Bought a six-pack of this on August 28, 2013 that had a bottled date of August 5, 2013. Here in Iowa, I couldn't pass that up!

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Rich gold with thin white head and some nice lacing.

Smell: Spicy and dry, with citrus and floral notes.

Taste: Very dry malt base with citrus notes of grapefruit and bitter orange. Finish has floral notes that are spicy and fairly bitter.

Feel: Firm, light body with the carbonation nicely in check (as expected in a Bitter-like beer). Extremely dry finish.

Overall: Another winner from Founders and another delicious session beer, even if not quite as good as Surly Bitter Brewer, Brau Brothers Hopsession, and Lagunitas DayTime.

Speaking of these beers in general, I am a little annoyed at the marketing gimmick of calling these session beers IPAs or Super Pale Ales. They're not. They are extremely Americanized forms of the English Bitter. A least Surly recognizes that their version is Bitter-like, as opposed to calling it an IPA. Can we make an American Bitter category, and be done with the ridiculous marketing? That said, I love this "style".
