Bottled 3/2/12

A: Medium honey/gold. Really good clarity, small white head. Not much lacing.

S: Nice zesty citrus and lemon nose. Some sweetness as well. Kind of reminds me of double trouble in a way. Smells way stronger than I thought it would, really surprised by that.

T: Lemon and light pine hops. A bit of grapefruit and just a hint of sweetness. Not much of an aftertaste and it dies off pretty quick as to be expected with a sessionable IPA. Still lots of flavor packed in here.

M: Light body, average carbonation.

O: Of course this is very easy drinking, they definitely accomplished that. A good amount of hops and flavor and the nose is fantastic. For what it is, I think Founders did a great job as usual.

Pours an effervescent honey color with a pinky of pearl colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing

S: Grassy, piney & floral hops aplenty

T: Follows the nose, crackery notes up front. Some minty & catty notes as this warms, some piney & woodyness as well. Finishes crisp, somewhat dry, & with a slight grainy/bready sweetness

MF: Light bodied, crisp carbonation, pretty good balance

Great drinkability, not really in my wheelhouse, but a solid AIPA that won't get old too quick in a session

Aroma: Super bold aroma for a session ale, only 4.7% ABV. Bold grapefuit citrus from American hops, a good dose of fresh pine needles. Moderate pale malt sweetness.

Appearance: Medium gold color, like apple juice. Just a touch of haze. Head pours small and is clean white. Low retention and low to medium lacing.

Taste: Impressed immediately. Bold sweet citrus, almost all grapefruit. Moderate pale malt sweetness. Mild grains.

Mouthfeel: Medium-low body. Creamy. Finishes very dry. The mild carbonation is felt after the swallow.

Overall: I could drink a few of these... Nice low ABV for a change, but the flavor was not sacrificed. The malt flavor could have been a bit bolder, but it works well, I can't imagine a better tasting Session IPA given the ABV restriction.

A - orangish copper with a short, soft, dense, pure white head that has great retention

S - herbal, spicy, peppery

T - light malt up front followed by an herbal, spicy, slightly rye-like, peppery hop character

M - light to medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated

This achieves exactly what it set out to do: a low-ABV, very hoppy, sessionable ale. I would have preferred a more citrusy hop character for a session beer to avoid palate fatigue, but I'm not complaining. It's a little pricey for a session beer, but I wouldn't turn this down if offered.

Slightly hazy gold with a thin but solid white head that leaves nice rings of lacing. Nice aromas of peach, mango, grapefruit, and pineapple with a very mild malt backbone. Taste is similarly tropical and fruity, with a light malt profile and mild bitterness. Excellently drinkable, with a medium-thin body and good carbonation. Overall it's exactly what I expected : a deliciously drinkable and sessionable brew from one of the best breweries on the planet!

2013 bottle

Appearance: Golden beauty with a nice 1 finger head and ample carbonation.

Smell: Quite aromatic, with notes of pine, malt, mango and orange.

Taste: Nice blend of subtle malty sweetness and bitterness up front. Eventually, the malts fade and the bitterness becomes more noticeable, lasting into the finish.

Mouthfeel: On the lighter side with mild carbonation.

Overall: Pretty much tasted as I expected it to. It's a sessionable IPA that's not very complex, but give me this over a BMC any day of the week.

12 ounce bottle, I can find no freshness/bottling date info.

Pours: lighter amber, lightly hazed, off white head lloose and staying. Leaves minor low sheeting and lace

Sniff: Bright and fresh hop nose

Tastes: Loads of again fresh tasting citric hops. Grapefruit and more grapefruit. Tasty IPA

mouthfeel: Crisp on the tongue, carbonation on point for the style and my tastes

Overall: fresh and brightly flavorful. Well worth a try. As advertized a sessionable, lower alcohol IPA - Nicely done

12oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Appearance
Gold with a short head that dissipates quickly. Excellent clarity and low-moderate carbonation.

Nose
Pineapple, tangerine, papaya, navel orange and honeydew.

Taste
Papaya with hints of pineapple and tangerine. Light caramel backbone with notes of candy sugar and honeydew melon. Finishes with subtle notes of pine and orange zest.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, crisp, clean, sharp and dry.

Overall
Has some really nice tropical flavors upfront and then quickly dives into the dry/bitter territory you'd expect from an IPA. Quite nice.

Mouthfeel: very light, refreshing, crisp, quite sessionable. very low bitterness for an ipa

12 oz bottle, 2/11/13. poured into a DFH IPA glass

A- A clear golden color with a two finger white head.

S- Floral, a good amount of citrus, pine, some resin, biscuity malts.

T- Citrus hops, floral, piney bitter finish, nice light malt backbone.

M- Smooth, crisp, light.

O- A lighter, easy drinking IPA, very enjoyable. Packs a nice bitter punch in a sessional beer.

12oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottled on 2/19/13.

A- A bright and clear dark golden color, plenty of visible carbonation. The 1-plus finger head tapers to a thin film and leaves wide rings of lacing. This is what I want a session ale to look like, thus the 4.5.

S- Piney hops are what I picked up right away, followed by some grainy and grassy notes and some faint caramel malts.

T-On par with the aromas. The piney hops carry this brew.

M- Light and crisp, well carbonated mouthfeel. There's some oily resin from the hops, which, by the way, Founders squeezes every drop of hop bitterness out of those 42 ibus. Dry hoppy finish.

O- Hoppy flavor @ 4.7% abv works 'All Day' for me.

Nice fresh fruit hop aroma. Sweet and light. Some doughy malt in background. Overall nice aroma.
Not much head - although poured while cold. Mostly clear and slightly cloudy darkish gold.
Forward hop flavors with moderately intense bitterness from mid through the finish. Some supportive malt with a bit of sweetness and caramel.
As would be expected with such a low abv there is a watery quality to the feel - quite thin. Ample carbonation.
A nice quality drinker for warm weather - which seems far away, although does seem a little possible in some distance future . Balanced well in flavors

The beer pours a nice golden color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great! It has a solid pale malt scent along with a killer citrus hop nose. It's light and refreshing with plenty of hop character. The taste is good. It has a great hop character that's balanced with an adequate amount of malts. It seems a bit watery, but the hops really add a good amount of complexity. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a highly drinkable beer and it's incredibly sessionable as well.

12oz bottle into tulip.

A - Clear light amber with a small white head. Very lively carbonation.

S - A blast of pine resin hits the nose first. Very earthy and hoppy with hints of mango and caramel malt.

T - Earthy pine hops are the showcase here (as expected). Light citrus and tropical fruit notes are evident as well. Toasted caramel malts lend just the right amount of sweetness. Finishes mildly bitter.

M - Light body, crisp, bubbly mouthfeel. A bit sticky, somewhat of a dry finish.

O - This is a delicious, hoppy session IPA. High drinkability and very refreshing. The mouthfeel is a little too light, but otherwise this is everything a light IPA should be.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsener glass.

A - A dark gloden-orange. Shines more orange in the light. A small, probably 1/2 inch head that stuck around. Suprising amount of carbonation for an IPA.

S - Quality hops, especially when first opening and before pouring. Yum. Some grapefruit and a touch of fresh cut grass, too. Nice smelling beer.

T - The beer was exactly what I expected. A damn good tasting IPA that's not as potent as most others. I.E. exactly what it's supposed to be. Quality hops are there, as well as a pinch of grapefruit. Great, smooth, medium-hoppiness in the aftertaste.

F - Very nice. Smooth, flavorful finish that really does quench the thirst. No dryness.

O - Not truly outstanding, but still a damn good beer. It's advertised as a session beer, and I plan on sessioning this beast in the future. It's a tasty IPA that doesn't have the overpowering delicious hop taste that's hard (for many, not all) to session with. Sessionable with lot's of excellent flavor!

S - It smelled of citrus and some pine.

T -It had a toasty caramel presence with sweet citrus and bitter piney hops.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a really good beer. I would love to see more session IPAs.

Pours a fairly transparent orange to golden body beneath the pillowy white head which hangs around for the majority of the beer and leaves a thin, sticky lacing behind.

Very nice, straight forward aromas of sweet citrus greet the nose. Floral hop notes also accompany the sweet fruit which seems to include orange, apricot, and peach.

The flavor offers clean, crisp sweet citrus notes as well with floral and grass notes.

A very clean and refreshing body highlights the mouthfeel with mild carbonation and a fresh hoppy finish.

Another winner from Founders. Just as clean and tasty as advertised and an all day drinkable IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. $9.99/6 pack

A- Pours a crystal clear golden orange body with a medium white head that reduces quickly and leaves little lacing.

S- Pretty fruity, smells like citra hops - citrus, mango, pineapple, some pine.

T- The notes here are subtle but tasty - the hop character reveals some tropical, grassy, and citrus zest notes. Not very bitter, nicely balanced.

M- Thinnish body with medium carbonation. Definitely refreshing and sessionable.

I like everything about this beer but the price. It's definitely a great brew to drink on a summer afternoon, but at 4.7% alcohol, a 6 pack isn't going to last you nearly as long as a higher abv, more flavorful 6-pack that you can purchase for 9.99.

Had on tap.

A- Pours a golden yellow color with a light amber hue to it. One finger white head shows medium retention. Some light web lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Tropical style hops in the front of the aroma. I mean this thing bursting with pineapple. There is a light caramel bready malt base but it only comes through in hints. Pine like bittering hops are in the ending of the nose.

T- Sweet citrus hops in the front of the beer screams from the get go. Pineapple is the biggest flavor I get in the front of the beer itself. Light bready pale malts in the middle of the beer show that there is a underbody to all this hop blasting going on. Light bitter hops on the backend to off-set the hoppy sweetness that is on the front end of this beer.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Sweet citrus hops and faded bittering hops are left on the palate. Aftertaste is light alcohol with a hint of pale malts and a crisp hop bitterness. This beer is balanced very well to the style they were going with. No off flavors were present. Light drying on the palate from the alcohol.

D- Although this was a hop forward beer it seemed a little muted at times in the nose. The flavor was big but not over the top I thought. A nice balance between sweet and bitter with the ABV really lending to the drinkability. Overall a nice sessionable beer from Founders.

A - The beer is a golden-orange/yellow color with a finger of white head. The head fades fairly quickly leaving behind some light lacing.

S - The aroma is a mix of some sweet malt and some piney hops. There is also some grapefruit aromas mixed in as well.

T - Starts off with a mix of piney hops and some bitterness with a bit of sweet malt in the background. Through the middle, some stronger grapefruit hops and some more bitterness come through. The finish is a mix of hops and bitterness with a touch of sweet malt that lingers.

M - Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels very smooth and crisp. The beer also feels fairly dry, especially with the bitterness as the finish.

D - Extremely drinkable. Very interesting IPA with as much flavor as it has with the rather low abv level. It is very flavorful and does not sacrifice flavor.

As its called this is a great IPA to enjoy all day. It has the hops to keep an IPA lover satisfied, but is easy on the palate and easy for any beer lover to drink.

A- Light, clear amber in color with nice white head

S-Mild but notable hop aroma with sweet citrus overtones and hint of toffee makes for an enjoyable aroma

T-Mild compared to most IPA's but the hops are present yet sweet and leaves a sweet hop aroma in the mouth

M-Nothing overpowering, goes down easily with a sweet flowery taste

O-Great IPA if you're looking for an easy to handle IPA or just getting use to the power of hops. I'm lucky to have Founders in my backyard and recommend this to any visitor.

bottled 12/26/11. poured into my founders pint glass.

a - pours golden in color and is totally transparent. only got a thin cap of off white head that calmed to a film right away, but does leave a lot of little chunks of lacing in my glass.

s - toffee, faint honey, orange, pineapple, faint grass.

t - grassy hop character over a biscuity malt base. juicy citrus notes, faint pine. pleasing amount of bitterness leads into a crisp, dry finish. standard ipa flavors here, but very well balanced.

m - medium in body but plenty of carbonation makes it feel lighter. medium co2 profile.

o - probably the most easy drinking beer i have ever had. the fact that i could have 3-4 of these in a night (or day) without falling down drunk just makes it that much more enjoyable. i see this being a regular inhabitant of my fridge.

poured in a craft beer pint glass.

appearance- pretty light, almost pilsner look to it. about a finger of head, then tapers off pretty quickly, which is unusual for a beer with this much abv

smell- hints of peach, mango, pineapple. smells very sweet, no alchohol smell at all.

taste- very sweet up front, not much hop flavor at all. a little juicy, with a touch of pine

mouthfeel- pretty sticky, leaves you wanting more, pretty good carbonation though.

overall- if doing a side by side with founders pale ale I really couldn't tell much of a difference. although I like this a little bit more then dry hopped pale ale. its nice that this has such a low abv, I look foward to drinking many of these in the summer. thanks again founders you did it again!

Purchased on a recent trip to Grand Rapids, MI. Poured from a date-stamped bottle: bright and clear with a deep golden hue with honey highlights. The minimal white-head dissipated quickly.

This one was fragrant with citrus and bittersweet tropical fruit; more aromatic than many larger IPAs.

The first sip was zesty and thirst quenching with a noticeable hop profile. The hop citrusy hop bitterness lingers on the tongue. The flavor profile is not very complex with a faint malt presence.

The body was rather thin with a clean and short-lived mouthfeel. A pleasant bitterness does linger slightly on the tongue.

This is a quite enjoyable session 'IPA' that has a lot of nice flavor for lighter ale. To me, this drinks like a hoppy, American pale ale. I now regret only buying one six pack.
