Pours a clear gold color with a small light tan head. The smell is a huge tropical fruit and citrus head - juicy stuff. Taste is tart citrus with a bit of tropical backing ending a bit dry with just a little bitterness. Light body with fairly active carbonation.

I had this at the bar because I thought the bar was serving Sixpoint Global Warming, and I still haven't had SGW!!! But I did get to try this.
While I was drinking it I couldn't tell if it was oh so lovely or if it was just too much distinctive grapefruit. I really tasted like yummy grapefruit juice, though normally I don't like grapefruit juice. It was sort of pristine in a way. Hops notes are tremendous but so palatable. I think of cigar and cardamom on the nose, a smooth mouthfeel but complex enough to stick around with each sip.
This is supposed to be their session beer, if I hadn't already been drinking at home I'd have continued with this one. So yeah I wasn't sure about that grapefruit but then I couldn't get the beer off my mind. That's what signifies a good beer to me: when I can't get that flavor off my mind. It happened with Carton Brunch Dinner Grub and it happened with this.
I think it's Founder's best (i)PA.

I tried FounderS ALL DAY IPA lat week for the 1st time, and I'm a big fan. I returned to the store the next day, and bought 12 more. 4.7% alc , but you can't tell by the taste. It has a wonderful golden color with not much fuz after the pour. Kind of an orangey, pine flavor, and smell. Not as heavy as most ipa, and I guess that's why they call it a Session Ale.

This is a low abv ale from Founders; this reveiw is based on a pint quaffed at the great Great Lost Bear in Portland, Maine. Upon being delivered to my slobbering maw, this beer was a translucent copper color, still and serene without the expected carbonation bubbles. The head was thin and wispy while the lacing was minimal.

One whiff and the olafactory senses are bombarded with pine needles. The palate is brushed with mild motes of pineapple that sucumb to a toasted conclusion. The star is the mouthfeel, crisp and clean. Nothing to overwhelm, but one that could be taken for granted. The perfect sessional craft that completely destroys the infuriating myth that a beer has to have a high alcohol content to be great. Leave it to Founders to end this nonsense: the Beer World's equivalent to the 9/11 Truthers.

This one fell through the cracks back when I had it, so this is from memory.
Serving: Bottle into pint glass
Enjoyed: Sometime July 2013

Appearance: Looks like an IPA, though the head does not stick around as long. Good amber color to it. Crystal clear. Looks very carbonated.

Smell: Not as huge of a hop-forward smell as some other "American IPAs", but then again, this one isn't like most others.

Taste: Keeping in mind that this is supposed to be a low ABV IPA, and thus isn't quite as big or complex as other beers of its same style, this one is great. As a session beer, this one is loaded with complex flavor, with a good, sweet malt backbone dominated by substantial hoppiness.

Mouthfeel: Compared to other IPAs, if memory serves me well, this one was very effervescent. Not to say that it was not refreshing as a result, but it seemed slightly overcarbonated to me.

Overall: Since this is intended as a session beer, I think Founders crafted another masterpiece here. I could drink this one all day and still get a good hop fix without descending too far down the inebriated rabbit hole. Great that it's offered in cans too, as this could be a quintessential tailgate beer for craft beer nerds.

A - Pours crystal clear amber with a frothy white head. Sheets of lacing cling to the glass.

S - Citrus fills the nostrils, grapefruit, orange, and lemon, bright fruit, pineapple, white bread yeast with a biscuity pale malt underneath.

T - Follows the nose with bright grapefruit, tangerine, lemon and orange. Nice hop flavor with ample bitterness. Tangerines show up and the pale malts support the zesty citrus with some grassy and slightly spicy hops coming in as it warms. Finishes crisp and clean with a pithy grapefruit bitterness.

M - Light to medium body, solid carbonation, crisp and clean finish.

A great session IPA, especially for the ABV. Grapefruit dominates with a light pale malt base. It's crisp and clean and you could drink this all day... get it.

Had this both and tap and in the bottle and there wasn't too much of a difference. A session ale indeed!!

Appearance: a light golden/copper color, pores with a thin white had and a solid amount of carbonation.

Smell: Citrus...smells like grapefruits and tangerines.

taste: It tastes just like it smells. It basically tastes like liquid grapefruit with a slight sweetness. A decent burst from the hops that finishes clean.

Mouthfeel: very light, clean with a good amount of carbonation. You get the flavors and then...it's gone. As if you never drank it.

Overall: I would have to say it is perfect for what it is. A session ale and nothing more. It gives off some good flavors, stays light and clean, and served ice cold it is extremely refreshing. Again, it's excellent for what it is.

12oz Bottle from Wegmans Dewitt NY for $2

Appearance - Clear gold/amber colour with an average size off-white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, hops, resin, apricots, lemons

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and hops. There is also some apricots and grapefruit/lemon and a bit of resin.

Overall - I'd buy this by the truckload if it was available to me locally. It might just be the perfect beer for me, something I can drink a lot of based on the ABV and lots of hoppy scent/flavour. I'll buy more the next chance I get.

Pour - Tap
Glass - Glass Cask Mug; Pint

Although I've had this in a bottle, I must say, the pour from a tap really helps this beer stand out from other session IPA's.

SMELL - There is a spicy, nutty smell with a hoppiness that spikes the nose. The head brings an airy and woody feel too.

LOOK - The body of the beer levels out towards the bottom, with the cloudiness and texture trending towards the head of the beer, which dissipates slowly. An opaque amber color throughout.

TASTE - The crisp first sip is just as strong and current as the last. A rich hop and mild honey flavor, this medium carbonation session IPA is easily drinkable and full with each sip.

Overall - A very rewarding IPA that maintains carbonation and it's plentiful flavors throughout - perfect for a spring or summer day!

A decent beer by Founders but I am a bit disappointed with this particular beer. I expected more from Founders as usually I am not disappointed by their beer. Appearance light in color is good but the taste is a little flat from what i expected the smell of hops in great but that is the extent of my feeling towards this beer.

Wow this beer is good. Aside from the rarer Green Flash "Citra Session", this is by far the best session IPA I've tasted.

Appearance is hazy and golden. Aroma is bursting with citra but not overwhelming. Taste matches the smell. Perfect blend of lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Lightly floral. Unbelievably refreshing. What really makes this beer great is the mouth feel. Highly carbonated. Almost like drinking an orange soda. Minimal bitterness.

OVERALL: Citra is my favorite hop. I love an IPA that makes you pucker. This beer is an ode to those who love citra. Incredibly refreshing and bursting with citrusy floral goodness. Personally, one of my top 5 favorite IPAs (Also a great transition beer for those who are new to IPAs)

Awesome amber, golden color. Lacing all the way down.

Glorious hops and malts balanced in the nose.

Wow. Flavor is outstanding

Goes down smooth and easy.

This beer is amazing! Throws down the gauntlet for what a drinkable, clean full of flavor beer should be. All day indeed. Good job Founders. Awesome, awesome beer. Do not miss it. Buy it when you see it.

Gold yellow color with a small amount of head that does not linger, just lasts slightly around the edge of the glass.

Citrus and a light amount of wheat scent.

Citrus, with a little orange and some bitterness as the flavor.

Easy drinking, with a light amount of bitternesss.

Very light in the feel and easy to drink

Go to IPA when I am looking to have more than just a couple beers. Also perfect for softball in the summer!

Served in a pint glass at Cavanaugh's in Chicago, IL.

A: Slightly hazy medium-orange beer. Thick white head, although it dissipates quickly.

S: Smell is of your usual IPA....lots of tropical notes with a touch of grass and herbal in the background.

T: Like a lot of the session IPAs, the hop flavor is up-front and very strong. Lots of orange, grapefruit, and tangerine. There's a touch of metallic taste and bitterness on the back end. Very light cracker malt is overpowered by the strong hop profile.

M: As typical with this style, the body isn't very heavy at all. This beer goes down really quick...which I guess is the point of this type of IPA.

O: In my opinion, DayTime IPA is the better beer, although this is very good.

Beer pours nicely from the bottle. No head whatsoever. Aroma of citrus and strong yeast. Pine and wheat supprisingly strong for IPA. Mouthfeel is smooth and tickles the pallet. I found this IPA. A bit tame as compared to other ipas. A great beer for a meal as it won't complicate the situation

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 9/23/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, orange zest, orange rind, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light bread, light honey, and floral earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity of citrus/tropical hops with a fair amount of malt balance; and good strength. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, orange zest, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light honey, light bread, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, mango, floral, grass, light honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity of citrus/tropical hop flavors with a fair amount of malt balance; with good flavor robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is a highly excellent session IPA! All around great complexity and robustness of citrus/tropical hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter (bottle date: 7/30/13)

A: Deep blonde with a copper tinge. Nice lacing.

S: This smells pretty good. It is a different smelling IPA. The citrus-pine smells of this is blended quite uniquely.

T: The pine here is not good tasting and mostly, "Bleh." I can't place the exact flavor profile of the pine and malt here, but it just seems to be the bad side of pine bark.

M: Thin, not very prickly or coarse.

O: Eh, this IPA is not my bag. There is something about session IPAs that kind of takes all the fun and taste out of a good ABV. They are like the diet soda of IPAs, some people like them but not everybody. If I'm going to be drinking a beer, I want it to be full flavored.

This is my first can of Founder's beer.

I pour a full finger of fizzy, off white head. The body is a dirty straw color. The head dissipates in a minute or so and no lace is noted.

I smell pine, grapefruit and mandarin orange.

A little crackery malt sits up front, with a bare hint of sweetness, then the hops take over. Pine is dominating, followed by a decent filling out with grapefruit, and just a kiss of grass and orange.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. It goes down smooth, and leaves the tongue dry, residue free, and aching for another sip.

This is MY idea of a lawnmower beer.

12 oz. Brown bottle.

A: Pours a cloudy pale yellow color with one finger of bubbly white head. In only a few
seconds this head turns to almost nothing. The lacing is basically nothing.

S: Citrus. Hops. Fresh. Crisp. Cool. Light watermelon. Hops.

T/M: Citrus. Hops. Citrus. Hops. Not strong but still distinct. Small malt bottom. overall
light bodied. Slick with a sharp hoppy feel. The finish is crisp with a linger of citrus hops.

O: For being only 4.7 ABV this beer is quite flavorful and a real stand out. Not a hop bomb,
but has enough to keep me satisfied. Especially if I'm going to session it. I really could
drink this beer All Day long.

Cheers!!!

Th beer ours some light white and bubbly head that dissipates very quickly. The beer itself is a nice, clear copper.

Smell:
The beer has a strong hop presence with a nice resin smell. The pine smell is not the only smell. The smell also seems to have some floral undertones and tropical fruits with a hint of sweet malt.

Taste:
The beer has a strong pine taste with a slight hint of what might be lime with a nice bitter finish that rounds out this wonderful drinking experience.

Mouthfeel:
Dry, crispy, and smooth describe the mouthfeel.

Overall:
A fairly good Session IPA and worth having it on hand for parties or just to unwind after a long day. The key is not to expect a full blown Mother-of-All Hop Bomb but a flavorful and easy to drink beer.

12 oz can poured into an IPA glass.

I am very conflicted in writing this review... difficult to draw a fair comparison. If you compare it to a high level IPA with a ~7% ABV (think Sculpin), it is easily overshadowed; however, in my opinion, that is not its intended niche. It may be the perfect tailgating (JKH shoutout) or fishing beer. In other words, you want to buy this beer if you are looking to drink many beers over an extended period, and maybe even crush a few cans in the parking lot. In that case, it's hard to a find a more perfect beer.

A - Amber in color. Very clear. No sediment. Appears to have moderate to light carbonation, but mouth feel says otherwise. No lacing.

S - Very fragrant. Hint of watermelon, lemon and kiwi.

T - Tart watermelon, kiwi, lime, and lemon. Nice light bitter finish.

M - Clean and crisp and lightly bodied. Despite appearance, feels like it is highly carbonated.

O - I couldn't help but grade it on the same criteria I graded other beers which is probably unfair. I am sure it will be a middle-of-the-pack beer in my reviewed list, but it deserves better, and in certain scenarios, it is a go-to beer.

Appearance has a semi-clear, golden colored beer with a white head. The head is a good size and leaves a good lace on the glass, albeit with low retention.

The smells are primarily of hops, with bold notes of grapefruits and other citrus.

The taste is what I'd expect based on the aromas, with a notable bitterness of hops with tropical fruit flavors. Not much in the way of malt character.

Mouthfeel has a light to moderate body. The high carbonation gives it a crisp feel, with a bitter and dry finish. I enjoyed this one more as it warmed up a bit.

Overall a good IPA, but it did seem one-dimensional.

Thanks for the beer, Craig!

Pours dark gold with a medium very persistent rocky head. Smell is huge grapefruit hops. Taste is much the same as the smell. Big grapefruit hops and little else. I think it's a nice smell but for the flavor it needs more malt to add some backbone. Unbalanced. This is why IPA's typically have higer ABVs. Medium to light bodied and very well carbonated. Very drinkable but overall the concept isn't working too well for me. I like the idea of hoppy session beer. But maybe this is a little too hoppy or a little too weak.
