On tap at the 2014 Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus fruit and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty, light, and easy to drink.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass at around 45 degrees Fahrenheit

Smell: A ton of toasted malts with a hint of citrus

Taste: As with the aroma, I get a lot of toasted malt, but the hops shine a little more in the flavor

Mouthfeel; Full body for the abv, but light for the style, as I was expecting. Crisp and refreshing with slight bitterness

Overall: Ill be the first to admit that I don't get the "session IPA" style. Isn't that what a pale ale is? Anyways, I appreciate that they can pull bold flavors with as little abv as my PBR. But I'd rather have a few regular IPAs or IIPAs with more flavor than a bunch of these, especially for the price. I will consider buying this again if I really do need to drink a low abv without sacrificing flavor. As far as All Day vs. Go To goes, I was blown away with Go To compared to this. More bright fruit flavor and less malt. The date was rubbed off on this bottle, so I will have to reevaluate a confirmed fresh one.

Notes: Born on 5/4/14 (current date 6/1/14). Poured into a nonic pint.

A: Golden color with a full 1+ finger head of pillowy white head. The head looks "dense" but it does not cling tot he glass and give lacing. The head seems to want to stick around.

S: Mango, peach and pine. Really nice tropical aromas.

T: Much more pine than I expected (based on the nose). Not getting much of the tropical fruit - much more pine present. Also I sense more bitter than the 42 IBUs lead me to believe - not harsh but I have had much higher IBU beers that had less bitter to them.

M: Slightly thin with average carbonation. This is the right balance for a sessionable IPA.

O: This is an enjoyable beer. With 4.7% ABV and a light body it is very sessionable. If I wanted to sit down and have one beer - this would not be it (I'd go for something a little heavier). But after a hard day in the sun one or two of these would be nice.
