A sessionable-IPA? Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? Whatever the case this one works on its own right as an enjoyable, dare I say refreshing brew.

It pours a light golden color. Aroma is crisp, sharp and hoppy. Smells good. Tasty, too, with a very clear, very clean flavor of citrus-grassy hops and a sharp bitterness on the finish. I’d have another. With it’s low ABV I’d have a couple! Fantastic brew. I really enjoyed it. (438 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A: light orange with a slight haze. Good sized white head that quickly dissapates.

S: Light grapefruit smell, other citrus.

T: Definite grapefruit up front. In the middle a hint of malts. Finishes nicely.

M: Light body. Carbonation seems heavy at first but definitely middle of the road when you drink.

O: Good light IPA. Good citrus taste without the sweetness. Nice finish. Perhaps a bit on the light side but this makes a very nice summer drink. (500 characters)

Bottled 3/2/12.

Copper pour with red hues. Minimal head and lace. Hoppy aroma showcases a nice blend of fresh Citra hops, among others. Taste is hoppy with a sharp, piney finish. No malt. Not the best flavor profile here, but this isn't a typical Founders style. Thin body, could actually use a little more carbonation.

An average session beer, I guess. Founders can do better for the style, but if I want a beer that tastes like this I'm picking Zombie Dust every time. (472 characters)

Bottled 2/2/12, reviewed 3/14/12

Pours a transparent light orange-amber with a thin white head. 3.5

Nose is a light and refreshing mix of citrus and grassy hops. 4

Although this is marketed as a session ale, the flavor is disappointingly weak and watered down. Citrus hops followed by piney, grassy hops. Finishes dry and mildly bitter. 3.5

Very watery, light carbonation. Might benefit from a little more carbonation to bring forward the flavors. 3

A solid attempt for a session IPA, no doubt about that... But I'll take another 1.0 ABV to drink something more flavorful, if one less bottle. 3.5 (601 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at a little warmer than fridge temperature.

L - Deep gold color with a 2 finger white, thick, bubbly head. Lots of carbonation bubbles, nice retention, a little bit of lacing happening.

S - Definitely some nice floral, citrus, grapefruit hops apparent. Can smell a bit of bready maltiness, but mostly hops. No alcohol apparent at all. Smells very nice.

T - A lot more balanced flavor than I was expecting following the nose. Definitely caramel-sweet, maybe honey, malt present with some spicy, flowery, citrusy hops following. Less hoppy and certainly less grapefruit taste than the nose suggested. Much of the bitterness at the finish is from the hops but there also seems to be something else (maybe toasty maltiness) contributing to the bitter finish as well. The only reason I say this is because it tastes more bitter than the hop profile suggests.

F - Light-to-medium bodied, pretty carbonated, a moderately dry finish. This also tends to be balanced as the bitterness stays around for a little while (not as much as some other IPAs) but there's also a tangy sweetness that lingers on the tongue.

O - The bottle says it all - "Session Ale." This is a nicely balanced, lower ABV IPA that seems perfect for an occasion when you want to knock back more than a few. Nice offering by Founders. (1,337 characters)

A - Pours a clear medium orange with a very thin white head.

S - Orange, pineapple, slight sweet carmel.

T - Light citrusy orange.

D - Light and refreshing. Ok carbonation and slightly bitter.

O - Light and nice and very downable. (286 characters)

Best part of this simple and pleasantly drinkable beer is the color - it's really lovely, with copper and deep straw/yellow/orange notes and a just bright, slightly cloudy core.

The nose is familiar - we've smelled this before, haven't we? The hops are floral and fruity and seem a bit too calculated, but even though we know we're being pandered to, we still enjoy the smells of lemon peel, purple flowers and banana skin.

Palate is underwhelming - just a touch of the florarlity and citrus - the bitter notes are actually balanced and stimulate the palate, which saves this beer in the mouth

Very pleasant and richly textured in the mouth with good energy and creaminess - a positive to this beer

The finish is simple, which is what you expect. I would drink this again, if someone else was buying. (804 characters)

A-Pours out a hazy golden color with a nice lace.

S-Smells of floral, citric hops, some orange zest.

T-Big citric twang, some powdery bitterness, slightly tropical fruits. Not much in the malt department, but nice puckering bitter aftertaste.

M-Mouthfeel is smooth.

O-Overall a great beer highlighting Amarillo hops. Reminds me a hell of a lot of Gumballhead though, so not blowing me away in the originality department. However I love the idea of a hoppy session IPA. Too many alcohol bombs that prevent me from having "a few" on a sunny afternoon. so this doesn't really disappoint. (589 characters)

Poured a clear amber with a tall white head. Mmm. The beer opens with a big hit of fresh hops, just off the vine. It's a rich piney perfume, with a juicy tangerine edge. The flavor has a biting grapefruit kick over a relatively light, but not thin, body. The hops are a touch more complex than 21st Amendment's Bitter American, but Al Day IPA is more drinkable. Man, I'd like to get a case of this for a long weekend. Delicious. (428 characters)

Bottle poured into a tulip glass

Pours a gold color with decent white head.

Smell is of a citrus IPA with a little pine. Not malty at all.

Taste is a bit of a letdown. Tastes like a solid IPA that had some extra water added to it.

Know what they were going for but it is just a miss for me. I would rather have less of bettter than this alternative. (354 characters)

I had been looking for to this one.

A: dark gold. Clear with a head that dissipates quickly

S: light citrus

T: reminded me more a light pale ale rather than an IPA

M: watery

O: OK but not a repeat for me. I much prefer 21st Amendment's Bitter American for a low ABV brew. (276 characters)

This bottle was courtesy of a coworker.

This beer pours a light bodied and very clear yellow gold in color with a soapy lacing around the glass. It poured exceptionally clean. The nose is very light and clean but also very fragrant. My guess is Amarillo, Centennial, and Cascade hops? It's very refreshing. Oh wow, the flavors too are very light and approachable. It's a little grassy and the hops shine. It's incredible how drinkable this beer is. It drinks light in body with a nice assertive hoppiness yet isn't dry at all. It drinks like a very light hoppy lager. I'm rather impressed. This is a perfect warm weather IPA. Founders needs to make this a summer seasonal ASAP. (678 characters)

12oz bottle, pours golden with a slight orange tinge. Nice fluffy, white head leaves some lace and holds decent retention. Aromas are really pleasant - floral hop, lemon, grapefruit, and some biscuity malt. Tastes are refreshing with fruity hops providing a pungent grapefruit and lemon rind flavor. Some mild malt notes: biscuity and faint caramel. Mouth-feel is thin-to-medium and is bitter, sharp, and dry on the finish with a sharp cheddar aftertaste that is not off-putting. I think it's slightly over-hopped in the bitterness department, but overall I like this for what it is, but I'd rather have it's big brother, Centennial, if I was to choose an IPA from Founders. (674 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a Deschutes tulip glass. Bottle date is 1/4/12.

A: Almost clear orange yellow color. Good carbonation. Bright white head. Fluffy head.

S: Cat piss smell astrigency for sure. Fruity hops are there but almost masked. Grapefruit and pine.

T: I get some orangey fruit in the tip of the tongue. Some mild caramel malt. But mostly this is just an overhopped pale ale. I guess it's an IPA

M: Light bodied. (426 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A - yellowish light honey in color, slight haze, big soapy white head the recedes quickly levaing a thin slick of foam on top, good glass lacing.

S - Gwt assailed immediately by grapefruit and pine, absolutely no malt to speak of.

T - Similar to the smell, grapefruit, mango and pine, mid taste a very slight hint of malt, finishing very dry and crisp.

M - Light bodied with medium carbonation.

O - This is a very nice IPA, some say too thin but for me it is a good tasting beer, lots of hops but very little bitterness, very refreshing finish. (592 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Bottled 02/02/12

A: Pours a bright straw gold. Slight haze. Capped with a finger of bright white foam that doesn't hang around very long and also doesn't leave much in that way of lace behind.

S: Fresh-cut grass clippings, pine, and grapefruit. As it warms its' citrus leanings take center stage and out come aromas of tangerine and clementine.

T: As above with more in the way of pine. Malt is light yet assertive.

M: Relatively thin and crisp but pretty right on for the abv. Palate was left feeling clean and refreshed rather than sweet and leaden.

O: Totally lives up to its' name. This literally IS and all day IPA. Great stuff. (686 characters)

Thanks, Paul.

Appearance: Pale gold body with a slight haze, topped by a tightly packed inch of foam.

Smell: Mmm, pine and grapefruit, slight tropical fruit... Simcoe? Smells quite good. A little bit spicy, too. No malt to speak of here.

Taste & mouthfeel: Big hop flavors of grapefruit, mango and pine, little discernible malt character. Light-bodied, but not thin - feels fairly sturdy for the low ABV. Firm bitter finish, quite dry. Bitterness is very dialed in here, you could easily have a few of these without wearing down the palate much.

Overall: Great. Had this on tap last year in Chicago an thought it was excellent, and it's excellent from the bottle as well. (676 characters)

12 oz bottle. $9.99 sixpack. Bottled 1/4/12.

Appearance: Clear yellow gold, smallish white head with average retention and lacing.

Smell: Resinous pine and fresh greenery. Sweet and bitter citrus follows.

Taste: Very flavorful hops with a stiff bitterness. Slim malt bill falls short of balancing the bitterness. Fresh cut grass, pine needles, citrus pith. Tasty, but obviously a small beer that is overhopped.

Mouthfeel: On the thin side of course, but not watery. The big load of hops adds some resiny mouthfeel in the end.

Overall: Compared to regular IPAs, this feels thin, small, and weak despite the hefty hoppiness. As a session beer for hopheads, its great stuff. Really love the hops aroma/flavor. (713 characters)

Pours a nice gold, hazy orange hue with a 2nice finger initial that settles to a full silky lacing that coats the glass. When I inhale this beer, I get a full blast of grapefruit, pineapple, mango, more citrus, hops and some underlying malt. This is a really nice tasting brew and could easily become my 'everyday' beer if I had one! Right upfront I taste citrus (pineapple, grapefruit, some tropical fruit, and either apple, or watermelon); hops (not overpowering, actually blended perfectly), some pine, and a slightly herby flavor that gives way to short ending of toasted malts and fresh grass, a little dryness to at the end. Very well balanced beer, as always from Founders never disappointed. Alcohol is well hidden, has a nice medium mouthfeel with a quick crisp, dry finish that leaves your pallet wanting more!

Cheers! (829 characters)

12oz bottle
Served in a conical pint

A - It pours golden amber in color, and presents one inch of off white head.

S - I get fresh citrus and tropical aromas. Mango is the most apparent.

T - This beer just seems to be dominated by mango and tropical fruit. I really like this aspect. I get some mild bittering at the end.

M - Medium

O - This is a very good, easy drinking ipa. I always expect quality with Founders and was not disappointed. (446 characters)

Poured from"stubby" 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Chill-hazed golden orange in color, with a short head of white foam.
Aroma-Nice boquet of juicy, piney hops.
Taste-Initial gulp is a bit weak-kneed, then a nice rush of hops and fruity pine come in for a nice flavorfull finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but this is a "sessionable" IPA and would be welcome in the hotter months or at a backyard BBQ. Nice flavor and very refreshing. (442 characters)

All Day IPA is an attractive gold color. It looks a tad hazy. When held to light, it has a very faint orange tint to it. A soft, white head covers the surface and rises to nearly a finger in height. It recedes quickly and leaves a very light lacing behind as it descends.

The nose seems a little weak, but it still smells pretty good. Hops are very apparent from the first whiff. Smells like a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, and pine mostly. It’s a nice mix though. Smells pretty good. There are some malty notes. A little caramel and perhaps toasted malts are in the mix. They definitely take a back seat to the hops though. Alcohol is buried. No huge surprise there. Needs more strength, but smells pretty good.

The flavor is good. Hops are definitely front and center. Grapefruit and pine flavors hit the palate and resonate throughout. The malt base features light caramel and toasted malts. They don’t overpower the hops though. The hops have a really nice flavor that shines, and they add a touch of bitterness along the way. All in all, it’s has a decent amount of balance though. No need to worry about scathing bitterness here. Alcohol isn’t noticeable at all. Finishes fruity and a little dry.

All Day IPA definitely has a lighter body. Carbonation seems light and soft. For what it is, it has a nice feel. It’s very light and easy drinking. I could handle a few bottles of this with ease. But, I guess that’s the point, isn’t it?

Founders Brewing Company is one of my favorite breweries. They aren’t the first to brew a lower abv IPA, but they did a nice job with it. It has a really nice flavor and is very, very drinkable. Sounds like mission accomplished to me. If you’re a fan of IPAs and are looking for something to drink over an evening, find a few bottles of this. It fits the bill! (1,823 characters)

Pours from bottle to glass with a light amber or maybe copper color. Head is about medium thick and dissipates pretty quickly.

Odor is very floral. A long of light floral as well as some green notes.
Taste is very nice. Feel is smooth and clean. Taste is of hops first obviously. Some citrus as well. Does not end with a lot of bitterness and leaves you wanting more.
Overall and very nice IPA. I like it less than centennial, but that is a high standard in my book. (470 characters)

Light amber with a fluffy head and pine and grapefruit aromas. The taste is pretty awesome--lots of grapefruit and citrus, some floral, a bit of pale malt backing, but with a strong bitter finish that resembles heavier IPAs. Just about flawless in execution.

I've become a lightweight since losing a lot of weight last year, so I can see this beer becoming my savior, the one that lets me keep up with my boyfriend without becoming a slurring mess. Love this beer. (466 characters)

Almost done with notes from the site shutdown.

This review is almost identical to the review of this beer on tap. It changes in no way except that it's more presentable, developing a stronger head with better retention and lacing. Thus, the appearance paragraph is removed from my original on-tap review and the rest remains.

The aroma highlights grapefruit. There's a bit more to it, a bit of accompanying floral bitterness, light sweetness and balancing malts, but otherwise it's all about the grapefruit.
As expected from Founders for a sessionable, low alcohol IPA, this beer is light but flavorful. What's ultimately showcased is a malt-balanced, bright, clean, green leafy grapefruit.
There's a bit of heft to an otherwise light body. Brisk crispness combines with a light smoothness but keeps the focus on crisp.
All in all, Founders has produced a very drinkable IPA with this beer. (892 characters)
