Bottled 6.7.12, poured into a Founders Pint glass

A. I poured this one with care, but recall that a hard pour results in a big foamy head; this one faded quickly to a thin white head that rests in a ring up against the interior of the glass. Light in color, orange/yellow, and translucent.

S. Light floral hops, light pine involved, as well, along with citrus. Natural aromas, with everything a bit muted.

T. Follows the nose, except for some very interesting natural flavors coming through; wheat and grass.

M. Light carbonation, very refreshing, goeas down very easy...perfect summer beer, or a beer for any season.

O. Love it.

This beer is awesome. An absolutely well-executed session beer. If you can ignore the fact the IPAs really aren't' supposed to **be** session beers, this beer will satisfy the beer geek who is desperate for a flavorful beer that they can actually have with lunch and not trash the rest of their day.

The beer is a little over-carbonated for it's intended purpose, and I have been pouring these vigorously, and have even resorted to stirring the beer in the glass with a fork to get the carbonation level closer to cask-like. The head is a lovely white with moderate retention--lacing sticks to the glass the whole way through. The nose of the beer is pine resiny. Really inviting. The bitterness here is intense and at 42IBUs, and especially sharp considering the light body--and this pronounced bitterness is the only "flaw" I can fault the beer for (though, I'm not actually sure what a session IPA *should* be like in terms of bitterness ;). In any case the bitterness and dryness of the beer conspire together to make the brew especially drinkable, with the end of one sip begging for the beginning of another. If this beer were more widely available (and perhaps a little cheaper) this would be stocked in my fridge all the time.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a light orange/gold with a finger-width of white head on top. Light retention. The nose is bursting with citrus and pine needles! Sharp and inviting aroma. The mouth is crisp and clean. Easy finish. This beer starts out with a nice bitter smack, but this hesitates and finishes with a sweet citrus flavor of orange and tangerine. Well balanced. This cures my craving for the bitterness, but is also quite refreshing and easy to consume. Not the standard for IPAs no doubt, but this one holds its own while also taking on some characteristics of a "sessioner" - lighter ABV, clean, tasty. I liked it.

On Tap at South Philly Tap Room

A- All day comes out a medium bronze with some faded penny shades as well. A stealth pour produced little more than a half inch of loose white foam, no lacing.

S- A small amount of smell for a small beer. Some bittering aroma type blends of hop variety with a light biscuit malt base in the back. Some piney scent with pale malt with warming.

T- A very simple beer with hops on top of malt, that's what counts!! Both are fairly light with everything pretty even. Some piney bits towards the end. I would love getting this stuff fresh, it's pretty much toast now.

M- Very light, crisp and somewhat bitter, in fact this is more bitter than alot of so called bitters out there. Carbed up very nice and not too much for the light body.

D- I could drink a six of this real quick, but would bore of it rather quick, especially at this age. The amount of bitterness is light enough that drinking six would not burn out the palate though. A great session beer.

Served from a 12oz bottle.

A: beautiful amber color, but little to no head.

S: maybe it's because I drink a lot of IPAs, but I could barely tell this was an IPA. Probably because it is a sessions IPA, but there are subtle hoppy, floral scents.

T: mild IPA taste. Again due to the sessions IPA style.

M: easy to drink, goes down smooth.

O: I am not a fan of sessions IPAs so this does not get a favorable rating for me. If these are your style, I think it would hit the spot, but I like my IPAs powerful.

12oz bottled May 5, 2012. Served at around 40F.

Pours lightly hazy yellow/gold with a one finger white head that recedes quickly to a small ring and wispy cap and leaves just a few spots of lacing behind.

Aroma is lemon and grapefruit citrus, floral, grassy hops, a touch of pineapple. some cracker-like malt. Good strength.

Flavor features lemony citrus, some grapefruit, floral and grassy, a little fruity, a bit of light malt, good bitterness on the finish. Minimal alcohol, finishes dry and crisp.

Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, a little oily and sticky, moderate carbonation.

Big thanks to one of my customers for bringing this by since we don’t get this one in Georgia. Does exactly what Founders set out to do...a nice sessionable IPA. Nothing crazy or extreme, just delivers a hop fix without too heavy of a body or too much alcohol. Great lawnmower beer with serious flavor.

Pours a small hazy deep yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, mellow orange citrus hops. In the taste, dryer hops, with a mellow citrus end. A small hop bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry hop, with notes of orange citrus in the aftertaste. Perfect for what it is, an IPA light!
