Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter.
Appearance: Pours incredibly dark, practically black, with one finger of off-white head, that subsides fairly quickly. Tons of lacing.
Smell: Hops, hops, and more hops. Notes of citrus, grassy hops, and tobacco, but backed by a sweet smell of roasted malts in the background. The sweetness serves to accent the hoppy notes. Great smelling beer.
Taste: Lots of bitter hops right away. Boozy, too. The hops linger in the background for the entire sip, but the initial bite quickly fades into a caramel, syrupy malt sweetness. The sweetness doesn't overpower, but simply takes a little bit of the edge off of the hops. The beer is definitely bitter, but not so to be overpowering - the raw hop flavor really comes through. I wouldn't say it's overly complex, however - but that being said, it's a great tasting beer.
Mouthfeel: Nice and thick and creamy, which helps support all of the intense flavors.
Drinkability: Phenomenal beer. It is definitely hoppier than most barleywines, even for an American-style one. Some may prefer a little bit more complexity, and I would be tempted to age one, but I'm afraid it would lose the hop flavors, which are a major part of this beer. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would have it again. Despite the high ABV, it's hard to sip this one - it's too good.

12oz bottle poured into Founders tulip. Consumed right after Nemesis 2009.
A- Pours a dark brown that appears an opaque black in the glass, thin off-white head forms that recedes to a still top with some bubbles along the sides of the glass, carbonation level seems to be a little bit better then the '09.
S- Aromas of dark malts, licorice, cola, faded hops, and some oxidation. Not a ton going on and not overly aromatic, nothing off-putting though.
T- Slick malts, cola, heavy black licorice, light chocolate malts, finishes with cola, dark malts, and very slight faded hop presence. Hops are all but gone, there's a light bitterness on the finish but nothing too much. Overall '09 Nemesis was tastier and more complex.
M- Medium bodied, very slick feel, not overly carbonated, pretty drinkable for the abv.
O- Despite the hops having faded this has held up fairly well although it wasn't quite as complex or tasty as the '09 Nemesis. Oxidation is starting to get to this but although the hops have faded for the most part in the taste and aroma they are still acting as a nice preservative keeping the beer from getting overly oxidized. I would recommend drinking this sooner then later but it will probably hold up decently well for another couple years.

I've been waiting for this for awhile now, hopefully not too long - this review is for Founders Nemesis from 2010, here we go...
Appearance - Pours nearly a finger of tan mocha creamy foam which comes down to a smooth lite cap in a minute, the body is a nearly opaque deep warm brown color with garnet raisin highlights,
Smell - Ooohhhh rich malts, ripe warmed dark fruits, sweet maple, brown sugar, well done fruit cake, dates, figs, rum cake, cooked breakfast cereal like barley or oatmeal, and some very light dried grassy floral hops.
Taste - Wow... very much like the nose, the first sip begins almost an explosion of deep dark sweet fruits over the tongue - fig, raisin, dates, ripe plums, all coated in cooked brown sugar and dark toffees, there is some natural maple here too, even a small ribbon of semi-sweet dark chocolate. Then rich roasty malts enter the picture - not enough to ad bitterness, but to add depth and breadth of flavor, then the sweetness just barely begins to give way and I get anise and semi-sweet black licorice, and then comes what I've been waiting for - even after 4 years, the 100 IBU's wrestle through and begin to appear - first as dried grass, then light citrus pith, and then a wonderful flavor of pine - all of these wearing a robe of slightly sweetened dark molasses. There is a very gently heat that accompanies all of this, completely complimentary and surprisingly concealed, especially at 12% ABV.
Mouthfeel - This is a full bodied beer, no doubt. Silky smooth and mouthcoating, but not heavy. Carb is quite low, but adds a soft texture to the quaff. There is some very light and welcome tingle along the sides and back of the tongue. This is a wonderful sippe but so very drinkable that I find myself needing to make myself take my time - savoring every sip, as I may never see this one again.
Overall - I am really enjoying this. I love the dark fruits, the maltiness, and I love how well the hops still represent themselves - the mouthfeel is perfect - my only wish is that I had a time machine to try a fresh bottle to follow this one. If you come across a 2010, pick it up, and savor one of Founders finest beers, and a rich and complex barleywine that easily holds it's own after 4 years. Cheers!
