Got this on tap at the Cloverleaf Tavern.
A: Pours a dark brown body with a small, tan head with pretty good retention and lacing until the finish.
S: A pretty strong, alcoholic smell with some slightly earthy, floral undertones. Some toffee, but very subtle.
T: A pretty strong, burning alcohol initial taste. Not as evident after a few sips. Permits the more earthy and slightly bitter notes to become evident. Some toffee notes, but those are mostly masked by the alcohol. Earthiness and bitter notes are more evident in the aftertaste.
M: a pretty full-bodied and very smooth mouthfeel. Nice on the palette and pretty solid going down.
D: A nice mouthfeel and taste combination. A strong, warming beer that is pretty solid for the cooler months. Overall, decent drinking beer. I felt that the alcohol might have taken away from the beer a little bit, but overall, still a solid brew.

12oz bottle courtesy of Campbell. Thanks man! Poured into a Founders snifter today, 4/22/2014.
A- Medium dark caramel brown. Half finger mocha head with minimal retention as expected. Splotchy lacing.
S- Holy malt. Nice leafy hop presence is dominated by a big caramel, toffee malt presence. Very sweet but what remains of the hops is still enough to keep it interesting.
F- Caramel, toffee, coffee, milk chocolate. Sweetness reminds me a good bit of maple syrup (i.e. Better Half). The 100 IBUs on the label certainly isn't all here, but a good chunk of it is still around to keep things somewhat balanced with a good bit of piney bitterness, but make no mistake this is a malty barleywine. Very good and still complex despite how sweet it is.. I do think this is probably starting to fall apart a little bit. No off flavours.
M- Medium bodied, low carbonation, very sweet and balanced finish. No hint of the 12% ABV at all.
O- Very good aged barleywine but this is probably at its last vestiges of drinkability at this point. If you have any, drink it now.

2010 Vintage poured into Goose Island Tulip
A: Pours a dark chocolate color with some light dusting on top. Visible carbonation rising, mocha colored small bubbles.
S: Aroma of deep rich caramel, chocolate malt and a healthy dosing of bittering hops as well as aroma hops. Some coffee and prominent licorice scents.
T: Very bitter off the bat, early hop additions, and sweet malt caramelized sugar presence. Chocolate and coffee flavors strong and licorice at the end of the spectrum. Toffee and cotton candy blend together nicely and have a very interesting blend of flavors. The one thing I get at the end is a little cardboard presence. Slight oxidation to an otherwise very flavorful beer. For a 3 year old beer, I am enjoying the flavoring hops and the oxidation seems to be the only drawback.
M: Medium to full body mouthfeel, slightly thick.
O: Overall a very good barleywine. I wonder if they will brew this again one day or if it will make it to distribution again.
