Enjoyed this on tap at Founders annual Black Party in a 12oz snifter.

A - Black, opaque, mocha colored head

S - Low amount of rye, roasty

T - initial: Barley, grains, roast, rye, biscuity. finish: low bitter hops (3/10), but roasty (5/10)

M - Frothy, viscosity is medium

O - Not my type of brew. Prefer sweetness over the earthy/roasty taste. I wasn't tasting rye specifically. Average beer and not for me.

A surprise offering from Founders. This will be a part of the lineup for the Black Party and is listed under the Class I lineup.

Pours black with an off-white caramel colored head. The head retention is solid featuring excellent lacing.

The predominant smell is a mix of rye and hops. It is difficult to tell which is which, but I tend to think it is mostly rye due to the spice note. Some dark malts creep in creating a clean smell.

This stout features a good deal of bitterness with a dose of rye spice. Malts compliment the bitterness helping to create balance. It isn't overly complex, but it is a solid stout.

I enjoy the rye in this stout. It creates an easier drink due to the rye mellowing the possibility of any sweetness.

I am a sucker for rye beers, so this tickles my fancy. This won't disappoint.
