Review #200, figured I'd make it an old favorite.
Beer pours a dark brown/almost black with a fluffy brown head. Smell is chocolate, roasted malts and also a bit of caramel malt in there as well. Flavor follows the nose, but takes it up a notch. This beer has an incredible balance of flavors - the roast malts don't take over the beer like they do in a lot of porters, instead it's got a little bit of sweetness to it and an incredible dark chocolate cookie-ish flavor (it reminds me of the chocolate crunchies on a Carvel ice cream cake). The mouthfeel of this beer, at least on tap, is what really makes this beer. It's very full-bodied and robust, unlike most porters which I find too thin. It's also got high carbonation which keeps it from being too heavy despite the larger feel. Overall, this is one of the best porters out there, and maybe THE best porter not made by Hill Farmstead (Everett and Twilight of the Idolts reign supreme). It's a hell of a lot easier to get than the HF beers, so it's my go-to porter. An excellent beer.
I will say that this beer is still great, but maybe not quite as amazing out of the bottle as it is on tap or on cask. The mouthfeel especially tends to lose a little something.

exactly what i want a robust porter to be. way richer and fuller than Black Butte and pure chocolate whereas Black Butte reminds me of charcoal. Not like Edmund Fitzgerald either with its slight smokiness and average thisckness mouthfeel. the closest similar beers would probably be Gonzo baltic porter by flying dog or maybe washington tavern porter by yards due to its full mouthfeel and rich chocolatyness
A= dark, black, nice tan head, nothing wrong here
S= roasty chocolate and some sweet malt. hints of coffee
T= same as nose, very full rich mouthfeel, sweet but with hop and roasty bitterness to balance.
O= One of my favorite interpretations at the style, very enjoyable and full dark beer at half the abv of an imperial stout. Will have to keep this around
