12oz stubby poured into a trusty pint glass.
Decadently dark. Nice 'glug-glug' out of the bottle. Rocked out a mere half a finger of head on a rather vigorous pour, but the body looks solid. Minimal lacing strands.
Nosing the beer first brings a semi-chalky milk chocolate and a pronounced roastiness from a bit of black malt. Smells sweet and sultry. Hints of bold coffee blends and lactic acid. A most superb aroma, indeed.
Big, bold taste. The roast comes through convincing me that what may have smelled like a milk stout is definitely a rather robust porter. Subdued earthy hop tags along in the finish, but the malt is the big attraction here. More chocolate notes (a little more bittersweet this time around), a little alkaline, and black coffee. 'Dark, Rich & Sexy' the bottle reads. Pretty much, spot on. This is one of the better porters I've had.
Nice bubbly presence doesn't detract from the medium body. I can use a little more girth (that doesn't sound right) on this one, but still a winner.
Not particularly one of my favorite styles anymore, but this bottle did me some serious convincin'! Here's to Founders--one of my favorite breweries. Cheers, ya'll!

This tastes exactly like coffee to me. That isn't a bad thing, I am just not picking up anything else. Add cream & sugar & I'd be having this with my breakfast tomorrow morning. Maybe leave out the cream and make an ice out of that.
Overall, a good porter & a really good beer - but there are better for the money IMHO.
