This was my first ever Founders beer, had a little over a year ago. I hated it initially for being so dark, now its actually lighter than most of what I buy
A- Pours essentially black with a tan head. Not as thick and oil-like as the Imperial Stout, but it does not disappoint.
S- This flirts more with the idea of a stout than a porter. Big roasty aroma, mild chocolate, solid hop presence that is indicative of Founders.
T- Initially, was too intense for me now. A year later, its taste is comparable to run of the mill imperial stouts, which is an accomplishment for a porter. Plenty of chocolate and roasty character, and the signature hop presence that reminds you this is Founders you're dealing with.
M- A little thin, but I have been spoiled by the thickest, heartiest offerings from this company and others. Not disappointing in the least.
O- This is the one that started me down the path of craft beer. Out of their year round offerings, this is a solid contender with Dirty Bastard over which is best in the dark category. With more focus on flavor and aroma, this one is a must try.
