I'm not a Porter fan (for the most part) but I am a big fan of this beer! It has a tremendous bold flavor and the color and smell of this beer are full of flavor as well.

This is definitely NOT a porter. Its a nice beer but I would classify it as an Imperial Stout. Very rich malt, sweet, roastiness, coffee.

Decent Porter, but I have better and this is why:

Appearance: Dark almost black, decent amount of head lingering globs of lacing are on the side of the glass and present on the layer that lies over the top of the beer.

Aroma: Some malts, a little hop citrus like notes, but not anything like a black IPA.

Taste: Fairly straightforward nothing outstanding, there is a bit of hop bite to this one which makes it a little bit different but then again some Porters are more hop forward, I tend to like mine more roast malts and creamy.

Overall: Not the best porter I have had tonight. I liked my local breweries offering better, I am not being biased but they made a solid beer!

I think it's perfect. Alcohol content is just right for me and so is the bitterness. Coffee taste is not harsh at all. I like this better than their breakfast stout, but that is still good too. If you like porters and stouts then you should definately appreciate this brew.

I just did a porter taste off of some of my favorite breweries: left hand, Great Lakes, and boulder. Founders stood out. Full flavor, full body, best taste. Biggest difference I notice outside of taste, was color. Founders is much darker than the rest. Maybe it's the closest to a stout, with the highest ABV. Might be why it's my favorite, but regardless, this is an awesome beer.

Black in color and no light seeps through. A fingernail of khaki head covers the rim and a third of the top. Alluring aroma of roasted barley with hints of coffee, figs, and a hint of smoke. The flavor is intense with roasted barley, smoked malt, and piney hops give it a different bitter direction. The mouth is chewy and viscous.

Pours a clear very dark brown color without highlights when held to the light, producing 2+ fingers of frothy, variously bubbled, moderately lasting, mocha head that leaves only a a few wisps & strings of lace. Aroma is roasted malt, bittersweet & Hershey's chocolate & a little creamed coffee. Taste is dark & bittersweet chocolate, roast with burnt bread undertone, roasted nuts & hints of molasses/toffee, an earthy mustiness, woody vanilla & herbal hops. Smooth, sweet start transitions to a dry, peppery feel in the finish, leaving a spicy, very dry, burnt chocolate & astringently bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied, low carbonation, silky & creamy with a lively finish & tongue numbing aftertaste. A nice brew that in a blind taste-test I would call a stout. I realize there is a narrow set of differences separating the two styles but this is just too rich to be a porter.

Very smooth, very drinkable. Toasted, coffee, oaky...cocoa even? Not your typical cocoa, but the deep, dark, rich stuff. Tasty brew. Well done.

This is almost like drinking soda. I don't know what that means but this beer is good. Silky, smooth, dark, no real aftertaste, it just goes down easy. I taste smoky oak wooden coffee, all in one medium to heavy mouthful. A solid beer maybe a little boring, but only because its perfectly balanced. A dream of being at a low lit beer meeting my wife for the first time and taking a sip of this beer. I can hear the others chatting. I just had my last sip and I feel like having a founders breakfast stout or another beer with complexity. Listen, this porter is good. Get it.

Overall one of the better porters out there but I am just not the biggest fan of the style. Certainly not a knock against Founders as the beer is still very enjoyable. The mouthfeel is just a little to thin and carbonated and overall its a little "roasty" for me. Still nice to drink on a cold snowy night!

Bottle poured into nonic. Finger of tan head settles to a cap on top of near black opaque liquid. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, mocha, burnt toast. Taste is all kinds of roasty/burnt malt bitterness, a little cocoa sweetness, a touch of late hoppy bitterness and maybe some veggies and dark fruit sweetness. On the low end of full bodied, slick and creamy texture, low carbonation, abrupt bitter finish.

One of the best beers I have ever had. It is also one of the most richest in aroma and flavor. Dark Roasted coffee is present in the smell and taste. It does possess that nice earthy flavor that is present in most fine single malt Scotch whisky. There is minor hop presence.

This is quite enjoyable, particularly if you give it some time to warm up. For me it provided some strong coffee notes that worked really well. It poured a dark broe with a three finger head that left some nice lacing behind. For now, this is about as high in abv as I like to go in the porter/stout category. It delivers on both taste and mouthfeel.

The beer pours a nice tan and creamy head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a opaque black with a nice sheen. The appears to have a bit of weight to it.

The beer smell is fairly malty along with other notes. The malt notes come off as burnt and heavily roasted. The beer's other notes are a chocolate note that takes the edge off the malts and a confidently hopped note. The hop is not super assertive but blends well and adds a different bitter dimension to the beer's smell. Additionally, the beer also has a nice caramel note to it. Overall, the beer smell comes off as a nice brewed cup of coffee.

The beer taste is a bit different even though it has the same notes. The roasted and burnt malts are still there but they are heavily balanced against by a chocolate and caramel flavor combo that runs through it. The hops are still there but extremely light and barely noticeable, yet still give a nice slight bitterness.

The mouthfeel is heavy bodied but not as heavy as one would expect. The beer is fairly drinkable and smooth with some carbonation to give it texture. As said before, the beer is easy to drink.

Overall, a very good porter and one worth getting. The beer is very drinkable and accessible to most people.

Surprisingly hoppy compared to a lot of porters out there. You get some roasted malt & bitter cocoa up front but then a punch of hops bitterness. A bit of a clash for my personal taste, but still a solid beer. Founders always makes well balanced brews so even if one or two notes are a bit unexpected they never overpower the rest of the beer.
