Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Dark caramel colored liquid. Minimal carbonation. One-finger tan head that dissolved into lacing quickly, staying think around the glass.

Smell: Primarily coffee aroma, with a bit of chocolate as it warms.

Taste: Again coffee dominates, but there are more complexities to it. Refreshing tingle on the tongue as it enters, followed by coffee on the palate, and chocolate on the sides. Reminiscent of the Breakfast Stout, but sufficiently unique and delicious.

Mouthfeel: Heavy bitter coffee aftertaste. Typically I am not a fan of this, but bitter coffee as a flavor in beer is something that's growing on me. More coffee aftertaste than the Breakfast Stout. Complex.

Drinkability: This is an excellent porter. Great dimension to the beer's flavor. And being on of the cheaper Founders offerings (~$10 per 6 pack), it is very much worth buying.

Founders Porter
Founders Brewing Company, MI
---from bottle to stemmed porter/stout glass---

Pours a dark mahogany brown but sits in the glass pitch black. Good tan head settles to a thin cap with good lacing.

Chocolate birthday cake. Caramel and licorice. Iced mocha. Slight grassy hop.

Sweet caramel malts, roasted coffee. Mocha. Finishes with bitter dark chocolate. Hops play an integral role in the background of this beer, though you may not notice right away.

Silky smooth. Perfect carbonation level. A little sticky from all the sweet. Dark chocolate lingers…

Very creamy/silky. This is the first Porter I have agreed with. Not overly burnt. Very well balanced. Gets better as it warms up – contemplating putting this baby in the microwave… kidding… kinda…
