A standalone in category:

This probably the best porter I've ever had.

A- Black with a big, brown pillowy head

S- Roast, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, slight wood

T- Is spot on with the smell and sweet. These guys have it right. It's so rich and perfectly balanced.

M- Smooth and creamy, very full-bodied.

O- Just buy it. If you like the style, you'll love it. If you like beer, you'll love it. If you don't like it, you'll like Miller Lite.

A beer is opaque black, and very thick like oil. The head is a bit thin and comes with a nice dark color. Small sticky bubbles of lace coat the glass. This is just as the stile should be.

S A nose medium in strength. Notes of oats and slight over ripe bananna.

T Thick, smokey flavor. Stings the back with a slight hopp. Notes of coffee, unsweetened coco and slight overripe fruit.

MF Thick and full, not to overpowering, but a smooth sipper

Drinkability is a bit easier than most porters. An easy going sipper.

Overall this is a beautiful brew to be enjoyed arter a good hearty meal. It hitts the style well, and Founders has yet to let me down. This does not quite live up to the world famous kentucky breakfast, but that does not subtract from this enjoyable porter.

Pours an opaque very dark brown, nearly black. Good amount of dark tan head that has some staying power and leaves a fair amount of lacing. Smells of strong roast malt and smoke. Hops are noticeable in the smell, but the roasted malt is dominate. Taste is great, you pick up the roasted malt and chocolate with a hint of coffee, which I didn't pick upon the smell, and then a nice bitter finish. Mouthfeel is fairly strong with what seems like low carbonation.

This is my first time trying this beer, and I am very pleased. It might join Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald as my go to porter.

Appearance: Poured dark chocolate brownish black with a half inch beautiful creamy tan head that eventually thins out, but continues to lace throughout consumption.

Smell: Dark roast/burnt coffee with sweet milk chocolate notes

Taste: sweet and bittersweet. coffee and chocolate.

Mouth feel: Creamy, velvety....perfect.

Overall: I am a porter fan. The look, taste, and mouth feel of this particular porter is an answer to what I like most about them.

Pours great with a deep dark brown; almost black with a good amount of head. the smell is subtle but chocolate and espresso are prominent. a good swirl brings the smell out nice. the taste is amazing; especially the warmer it gets. I found it best served slightly chilled past room temperature. the flavors of chocolate and espresso are melded wonderfully; the bite of alcohol finishes off your sip. This beer goes down smooth and doesn't disappoint. For my first founders beer, this does not let down. can't wait to try more!

A - Black.. with a tan head that disappears rather quickly.

Smell - Roast and chocolate notes none of the aromas out shine the other..

Taste - Awesome! The chocolate and roast aroma carries into the flavor of this beer. This beer is perfectly balance.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, yet border line viscous. Carbonation is not too heavy.

Drinkability - I can drink several pints of this beer easily..

Overall - This is one of the best porter's I've ever tasted. This is the last of my stash until I travel (or order) out of state for another beer haul.

This was poured from a 12oz bottle to a Sam Adams glass.
This beer was pitch black with not a shimmer of light breaking through. A nice dark tan head that sticks around all the way to the bottom.
I could smell the combination of coffee and chocolate as soon as I started to pour.
The strong flavor of coffee and chocolate come through in this robust porter, with a some coffee bitterness towards the end. Founders has one of the most flavorful Porters around.

Starts off with a great aroma of roasted taffey, if there is such a thing. My girlfriend says caramel. Head is thick and brown, good retention. Silky mouth feel, sticks to the roof of the mouth like again, some kind of candy. Washes quickly over the palate and finishes clean, very clean for a porter. Simply a roasty treat. I usually catergorize beers as to what I would be doing or where I would be while drinking them: the Founders Porter definitely up there with a hockey-match on the tube while it's 15degrees outside. Kind of like right now. Cheers.
Oh, and the label on my bottle says it's 6.5percent???

I've been hitting porters now that the weather's turned a little chilly. Founder's was a new one for me, so I thought I would give it a try. Nice dark color with no light coming through. Not much head on the beer and disappeared quickly. Smells of malts, coffee, with a noticeable whiff of alcohol. Taste followed the smell, including the alcohol which was a little potent early in the beer.

A: Dark with a nice frothy tan head.

S: Roasty, coffee beans and chocolate.

T: Roasted malt, strong but nicely balanced coffee and chocolate with a bit of hoppiness on the aftertaste.

M: Creamy with light carbonation.

O: Definitely one of the best porters around! This is so delicious I could drink it all day.

The beer was well received however a few people thought it to be too hoppy for a porter, almost like a mix between an IPA and a porter. This can be great, but when someone expects a porter they do not expect a heave hop taste. It was great, but a little bitter for someone trying to order a porter.
