Appearance - Pours a midnight black hue, nice creamy mocha head

Smell - Nice hints of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, smoke, peat, campfire

Taste - Big rich coffee and espresso flavors right up front, so gorgeous. I am getting vanilla, milk chocolate, toasted almonds, roasted barley, tobacco. It tastes so rich.

Mouthfeel - This thing is silky smooth, perfect.

Overall - Founders makes the best dark stouts ever, its no doubt i would love their porter just as much. This thing is the tastiest damn drinkable thing I've ever had and EASILY MY FAVORITE PORTER. wow founder, wow.

A- bottle poured into a pint glass. Poured dark and had small amounts of amber on the sides. Not much thought. Pretty black. Nice lacing with a nice tan head about a finger.

S- Love the smell. Coffee and roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. Very nice smell!

T- Sweet coffee with hints of chocolate but not much. The coffee really comes through but not overwhelming. I get a bread taste near the backside. This is how a porter should be!

M- The feel is prefect. Smooth and thick! No much carbonation in which i actually love from a porter.

O- Everything a porter should be. Its my favorite drinkable founders beer. I can take a 6 pack and just drink it all night. Once again founders has done it. Perfection!

A: Poured into a pint glass, appears pitch black with some dark reddish-orange colors at the bottom of the glass. Big beige head has decent retention and leaves a bit of lacing.

S: Smells terrific, with tons and tons of chocolate and coffee notes, maybe a bit of hops and a tingly sensation of alcohol. Very inviting.

T: Begins with a dark fruitiness and some sweetness, then comes a terrific onslaught of roasted flavor, mainly espresso and bitter chocolate, which climaxes to a lingering, dry finish with some floral hop character, charcoal, and a bit of residual sweetness. A bit minerally too, which enhances the dryness. Alcohol becomes more apparent as the beer warms, as does the initial sweetness, which suggests brown sugar.

M: Medium body, actually feels relatively light for a porter. Great dryness and moderate carbonation are all nice though. Bittersweet maltiness coats the entire mouth, along with a bit of the hop and mineral flavor.

O: A very good porter. Not quite my favorite, but a good example of the style and probably has the best finish out of any porter I've had.

Poured an eighth inch chocolate malt head which vanished almost immediately. The body is a dark burnt umber brown, almost coffee. Smells of cocoa, coffee, and roasted malt. The taste matches the smell but is actually far milder than I was expecting. Finish is quite long featuring the roasted malt. Certainly a very good porter, but not necessarily the king of them all.

This is my first Founders brew. In a pint glass it was obsidian and opaque. The lacing was good and there was a thin cocoa film of head. The taste was good, and it was silky smooth on my palate. The taste was not as complex as I expected, but it left that satisfying bitterness that porter fans love. I will try other porters before returning to this one.

12oz. bottle poured into a chalice.

A- Black. No light pierces it. A tight tan head that dissipates fairly quickly

S- heavy roasted malts, milk chocolate and vanilla. The Founders yeast strain is in there as well.

T- Much less sweet than the smell would suggest. Burnt wood, toast, coffee are prominent. Dark, dark chocolate, and vanilla hints as well. Hops hit mid-stride but are restrained. A bit of sweetness tries to come though on the backside, but it balanced, and a bit overtaken by the bitterness.

M- Heavy side of medium, tight carbonation, dries aggressively for a porter.

O- A good american porter. Not my favorite, but obviously well crafted.
