This by far the ideal porter that one can have or rather the benchmark all other porters should be compared to. The color and head are spot on, smell is sweet chocolate/coffee which tastes almost as it smells but better!

I go to Founder's weekly and this is one that I usually will get if nothing else catches my fancy.

Reviewed from notes, 1/14/12.

Thanks to Steve for this one, 12oz bottle dated 10/24/11 poured into a Snake River pint glass and shared with the wife.

A: Pretty dark and opaque, some creamy tan lacing left behind from an unimpressive head.

S: Lots of chocolate sweetness, hints of an oaty quality and dark malt sweetness. Robust without being roasty.

T: Dominated by creamy chocolate, rich dark malts. Light hopping here, really letting the creamy milk chocolate shine. Hints of dark fruit and a lactose sugar. Semi sweet but definitely not cloying.

MF: Creamy moderate body, so so smooth. Very nice.

O: An enjoyable porter. I prefer more roast & coffee-like flavors but its impossible not to like this offering.

appearance- Looks perfect. Solid pitch black with a beautiful creamy head on top.

smell- Smells potent. Coffee, chocolate, a little vanilla, a little alchohol.

taste- Same as the smell, delicious. Its sweet but its got some bite as well. Very full flavored.

mouthfeel- Full bodied as well. Its got some carbination but that doesnt take away from the smoothness.

overall- Overall this is a fantastic beer, Id reccommend trying it if you haven't yet. Founders never seems to dissapoint.
