On draft at The Atlantic Chip Shop, Brooklyn, NYC.

Poured a deep black hue with a trace white cap. There was little retention and decent lacing.

The smell featured a sweet chocolate and light caramel.

The taste was driven by sweet cocoa and featured a slight smoke and light caramel.

The mouthfeel was full for the style.

Overall a tasty full bodied English style porter.

12oz bottle into a pint glass

A: Pours a dark black with a medium dark brown head that fades to a ring and leaves no real lacing. Almost looks like an Imperial...

S: The nose is full of cocoa/chocolate and that's about it...pretty one dimensional but it smells great..

T: The taste is much different. The cocoa is up front but there's a hop presence in there as well that's kind of piney.

M: The feel is slightly creamy with a nice medium to full body.

D: Very solid brew with a decent ABV. I'd buy it if I could get it.

Pours a thick viscous black, nice creamy tan head. Smells of freshly ground coffee, cocoa powder, very roasty, some faint citrus, pineapple in particular. Tastes of bitter like coffee with a nice wave of dark cocoa like sweetness. Slightly citrus bitterness leads to some cocoa dryness and burnt roastiness. Very low carbonation, nice creamy texture.

A very solid robust porter, big and bold. My only qualm with this beer is the carbonation is a little too low, which is odd since i generally like my beers like that. I think a little more carbonation would bring the score even higher.

D: The drinkability is excellent.

A - Poured a very deep drown, almost black, with a foamy coffee-coloured head that slowly disappeared. Darker than most porters.

S - The nose is full of coffee with some choclate in the background. No apparent hops.

T - Dark roasted coffee with some chocolate. This one is full of flavour.

M - Medium body with a good amount of carbonation.

D- This is an exceptional porter, especially if you like coffee. I will definitlely keep this one in my fridge at all times.

A-Pours an oil slick black with a two finger, dark brown head. Leaves behind nice lacing.

S-Smells of sweet coffee and chocolate malt.

T-Roasty coffee upfront with chocolate malt. it finishes dry, bitter with a hint of alcohol.

M-Smooth and medium bodied with a dry slightly prickly mouthfeel. Not a lot of carbonation here, which isn't a bad thing.

D-Pretty easy drinking, solid porter. Not the best porter I've had but I could see picking this up in the future.

Pours dark and black with a thick brown foam. Good retention and lacing

Aroma is chocolatey, and coffee like. Not much else going for it.

Taste starts out with a chocolate profile, bitter from it as well. It develops into a toasty coffee flavor after that, and goes down with a coffee/chocolate fusion.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and creamy

Drinkability is average for a porter, but the ABV is low. It is full bodied though, so that won't help. But then again, porters aren't meant to be drinkable beers.

S: Chocolate and coffee.

T: Chocolate upfront, then a nice hint of roasted coffee. They play very well with each other not overbearing one way or another.

M/D: Very smooth. The bottle says it all," dark, rich, and sexy."

Poured from a fresh (growler fill was within the hour) 64oz growler into an Ommegang tulip.

A - Poured a silky oil black with a thin tan head that didn't hang around all that long.

S - Vanilla and caramel malts lead the nose. Has a touch of an earthy smell, but not as intense as say New Belgium brews.

T - Very roasted. Roasted nuts and malts dominate the flavor with some undertones of wood and caramel...perhaps even a touch of cocoa.

M - Very bready and oaty. Has a nice malty after-vibe and is cooling. Pretty thick, but not overly.

D - Really drinkable porter. If I have any complaint, it is the richness and fullness of the beer which might make this one that you wouldn't want to drink all evening. Really great porter though.

A - Creamy black with creamy and frothy huge head that is sticky and laces thick. Recedes very slowly.

S - Extreme. Very intense aroma of toffee, some vanilla cream, chocolate. Great!

T - Pretty good. Follows the nose but there's no vanilla detectable. Warming and bittersweet in the swallow. But overall not as intense as the aroma suggests which is a bit of a let down. But this is still good.

M - Definitely full bodied and creamy with a low amount of carbonation. Very smooth.

D - Moderately drinkable but its extremely thick and i can feel it in my stomach after just one. Not that I would have it any other way, but you probably can't drink much more than 2 or 3 of these at very most. A good beer overall though that I would get again.

The beer pours a dark brown/black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a rich, roasted scent that boasts of both black and chocolate malts. It's dry and bitter with an excellent chocolate sweetness; very balanced. The taste is good as well. It has a dry, roasted flavor that's deep in black malt bitterness. It has a nice mix of chocolate malts and non malted roasted barley. The mouthfeel is great. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a damn good porter. I love the complexity; just a well brewed ale.

I've had this one for a while, thanks to the awesome BA who included it as an extra whose name escapes me.

Pours a beautiful black color with a nice tan head that dissipates to a little in the middle. Reminds me of the exact opposite of my hairline.

This one smells surprisingly rich. Vanilla, coffee, sweet malts, and overall goodness abound. There is more perceptable vanilla in here than some other beers I've had with "vanilla" directly proceeding "porter".

Thankfully, the vanilla isn't absent in the mouth. Coffee and general sweet goodness are also hanging around.

Pretty good on body. Not too thin and not too thick.

This one is very drinkable. I'm a big fan of the dark and heavy when it pertains to beer and this one doesn't disappoint. Damn you Founder's for having an apparent disinclination to distribute in Florida!!

12oz bottle into a pint

A- pours almost pure black with a cm of light brown head which reduced to a collar and film quite quickly. fairly heavy lacing for the style. the head didn't stay around for long but it was exceptionally dark for a porter.

S- coffee and bitter chocolate. an evident sweetness from a heavy malt profile. dark and robust.

T- very much like the Breakfast stout I had earlier in the day. tons of chocolate and plenty of coffee. the bitterness does well to combat any sweetness that shows its face. still has that almost sour bitter bready finish that I always expect from a porter. I wish I could give it a 4.75 but I'm really liking this one so I'll bump it up to a 5.

M/D- a full body, pleasantly low carbonation, and creamy feel make this a very nice drinking porter. it does have some heavy flavors that could weigh on you after having a few, but its delicious enough to keep you going

Founders is one of my fav breweries, just gotta get around to review more of their beers. Can't wait to try this one.

A: A thick almost black 1/2 finger head rises and sticks around for a while over a pitch black luscious looking beer.

N: Lots of malts on the nose. Some chocolate, lots of roast, some luscious dark chocolate malts, slight sweet malts, and just overall darkness. A very slight hop aroma as well.

T: Lots of luscious malts. Mostly roasted and chocolate malts, and lots of coffee. A nice bitterness with some spicy hops. A chewy malt composition adds lots of dark malts, chocolate, and slightly bitter acidic earthy charred malts. A slight salty soy sauce flavor comes through as well. It is smooth and slightly velvety with a slight chocolate milk feel.

M: Semi thick, luscious, velvety, spicy acidic, lower but OK carbonation.

F: Semi bitter with lots of roast and charred malts, and some nice hop flavors to help. Lingering salty soy sauce though. Some Hoppy bitterness blends with more roasted charred coffee earthy bitterness that linger a bit. Some more coffee lingering. A nice finish for a humbling porter, out of all the Founders beers, not one of the best, but still a great beer as Founders has some amazing beers.

So I've been hearing about Founders coming to New York for weeks and have been looking forward to the introduction since it was announced. I tried the Centennial and wasn't impressed. I had the pale ale and loved it! The porter is another one that impressed me greatly. Amazing malty and classic porter aroma. Great dark color and a perfect malty, portery flavor that, at the low abv makes it a great drinkable beer.

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

"Dark, rich, and sexy." Indeed. Our eyes met from across the brewpub. She stood at the bar, all decked out in righteous finery. It was when she peered over her shoulder that her beauty took hold of me: those dark brown, nearly black eyes; those burnt ochre tresses, somehow simultaneously thick and light, that she nonchalantly brushed away from those aforementioned eyes; she certainly appeared nearly perfect. I had to speak to her. As I neared, her perfume caught my nose, sending me further over the edge before we've even met. It was dark, it was roasty, it reminded me of a chocolatier's workshop. Finally, I made it to the pinnacle: I old-fashionedly cleared my throat loudly, springing the trap. I thought she'd bite, but instead she ended up trapping me within those dark eyes, which in turn were reinforced by that rich, creamy skin. I was stunned. Luckily, she took the lead. As we spoke, grew closer, her very essence dove into my senses, recalling and complimenting her perfume. The sweetness, the roast; the chocolate, the molasses, the brown sugar (how come it tastes so good!?), the nutmeg, the coffee, the subtle vanilla. I don't know how I survived the encounter. In fact, she was so rounded, such a complete package, full of energy yet more than willing to slow down and savor the moment, that we talked, nay connected, far after the doors were closed. I had fallen hard. And we've been together ever since. Now, Dean-o, THAT's amore!

Pitcher at Winking Lizard in Mentor Ohio. I had 1 and my friend had 1. Two beautiful black Pitchers of Goodness . Nose is milky cocoa, smokey, nice malted milk character, some dark fruits & really dark caramel. Flavor is sweet roasty malt, rich dark fruits. A touch of burnt in the slightly smokey & malty finish, along with a bit of hop that balances things perfectly. 1 of my favorite Porters "Ever" along with a Founders Breakfast Stout...mmm Good.

A- Dark as night. Hardly a head or lacing at all.

S- Roasty/Chocolaty.

T- Coffee-like bitterness. Agree with the smokey finish comment.

M- Heavy, not much carbonation.

D/O- As delicious as this beer is, as with all porters, it's not something that your going to want to drink all night.

Appearance: Poured completely solid black color. No carbonation is visible. One finger thick dark-khaki head, with decent retention. Moderate lacing.

Smell Smells of smoky and chocolaty malts, with a molasses sweetness. Almost a burnt flavor, but in a good way. Hint of very dark fruit flavors.

Taste: Very smoky with dark chocolate. Medium dark sugar sweetness and dark grape flavors. The smokiness linger for a while. Just a hint of alcohol. Dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied, with a nice bite up front and smooth on the way down. Tingles the back of your throat. Very lively.

Drinkability A very good porter. Excellent smokiness that lasts and lasts, with a moderate amount of sweetness as a good contrast. A must try.

Buy Again? Yes.

12oz bottle, served in a DFH signature glass

A - pours with a fingers height of tight and frothy, dark khaki colored foam. leaves behind spotty bubbles of lace through the drink. the beer is just about pitch black, with only the slightest dark ruby hue when held up to a bright light.

S - pretty aromatic...starts off with bold roasted malts, dark french roasted and lightly creamed and sweetened coffee, bitter dark bakers chocolate. a slight lactose-like sweetness, more cocoa powder comes out as it opens, along with a slightly bittering hop aroma. outstanding.

T - starts off with some dark roasted malt immediately joined by a bit of dark fruits, sharp black coffee. the hops come alive here, adding a strong big of grassy and earthy bitterness joined by some chocolate, vanilla, and mineral. the aftertaste is dominated by milk chocolate and roasted coffee. let this one sit a bit to mellow and really open up!

M - medium bodied, creamy and with a good medium amount of carbonation. quite chewy, leaves the mouth a bit scratchy and "fuzzy".

D - a well-rounded porter with all the classic characteristics, taken to a slightly bolder level as expected from Founders, borders the Stout line. dangerously drinkable and delicious.

6.5% ABV- 45 IBU

A- Jet black with milk chocolate colored head. Very frothy out of the bottle, had to pour for a few minutes with breaks. Tons of carbonation.

S- malt, milk chocolate, coffee, espresso. smells good.

T- Wow! Mellow malt flavors. Nice temperature 55'. A bit of spices, but heavy on the coffee and chocolate flavors. smoky finish.

M- thicker than expected. Nice mouthfeel. Rich and creamy like a milkshake.

D- Excellent drinkability. lower ABV makes it easy to have a couple, but I probably wouldn't want more than 2.

Founders gets a winner again.
