12 oz bottle poured into a Founders imperial pint.
6.5% ABV, 45 IBUs, Bottled 01/20/14

A - The clear pour to the bottom of the glass resulted in a monumental tan head with dribbles of beer slowly filtering through the foam creating a sexy cascading. Despite the large head it dropped to a clumpy pile rather quickly but, above the black beer, multiple rings of dense lace were left behind.

S - You'd swear you walked into an old confectionery with a whiff of this beer as dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and melted caramel come together to add silky smoothness to the mildly gritty ground coffee nose. Notes of old, earthy wood paneling give the beer a faint nostalgia!

T - Dark roasted malts pull the chocolate and cocoa nunaces from the nose but add a singed bread crust-like burnt flavor that goes well with the French-pressed coffee taste on the finish.

M - This thick porter is full-bodied and creamy to the point of being as smooth as black velvet. The silky texture is almost chewy since there is little carbonation feel to it but it's not syrupy by any means. A lightly dry and roasted bitter on the finish, it provides the perfect balance to keep it from being too sweet or rich.

O - While the average beer drinker might be wrongly afraid of "dark beer", I've had many a thinner stout than this porter making it one of those "heavy" beers I might caution the uninitiated against. Full-flavored and full-bodied, Founders Porter is a magnificent beer packed with roasted malt character but I think the beer's label sums it up the best; "dark, rich, and sexy."

WOW
I've been waiting to taste this one.
The pour was beautiful, a dark, almost pitch black nightfall into the glass. The head was creamy, slightly brownish but held up pretty long in the glass.

The nose was coffee all the way, not as pronounced as some others, but for a Porter it was pretty full.

The mouthful was smooth like silk, I can find NOTHING wrong with the taste. In fact, this tasted more like a stout than a porter There was coffee, but also hints of bitter sweet chocolate, with a touch of a pepper, leaving just a dab of spiciness.

The finish was smooth and lingering, leaving me knowing that I will go back to this one again

The appearance is dark, thick and attractive. The smell is a little chocolate or coffee. The taste is the same and I'm not sure it could be improved. Somehow the alcohol is hidden. Listed as a porter, you should absolutely have this one if you like stouts.

Appearance is black with a nice tan head that dissipates quickly

Smell is a nice roasted coffee and chocolate

The taste is rich chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, nuts, hints of Carmel and smokey wood. It is phenomenal!

Mouthfeel is a nice full bodied creamy feel. Drinks almost like a stout would.

Overall, another amazing brew by founders. This is my favorite porter out there! And one of my favorite brews. I highly recommend this.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Stemmed glass, jet black with almost no head. Smell of chocolate and coffee with a touch of dark fruit, taste was coffee and wood as in barrel aged brews. The depth of flavors ranged from bitter coffee and dark chocolate to a smoke and wood aged pit fruit..date or fig like. Mouthfeel was a tad heavy for a standard Porter but right on spot for this offering, I like the brand and I like Porters and Stouts...a lot...all in all I enjoyed this brew and would pick it up again....winner!
