Straight pour into an English pub. No head, which was a little disappointing. Black coffee color, from the top there are hints of caramel, coca cola-like.

Smell is not blatantly obvious, underlining aroma of roasted coffee beans with malts and chocolate. The smell right before drinking reminds me of chocolate milk.

Taste isn't too bitter, definitely chocolate, espresso, kind of taste. I also taste the roasted malts and coffee beans.

Mouthfeel reminds me of drinking flat coca-cola and finishes with a smooth, rich after taste. Body isn't too full like most porters, which makes this beer's drinkability higher than most.

Pure black pour with a thick frothy head of tan and orange.

Aroma notes are of rich dark chocolate and coffee beans.

The character of this beer changes as it warms in the glass. First few sips are of chocolate but as the temperature rises my palate picks up vanilla and an attack of good hoppy bitterness.

Very chewy porter with a thick mouth-feel that will almost make you believe you are consuming a chocolate candy bar.

I don't think my stomach could hold more than a couple of these at a time but it is a very satisfying beer. Although not a seasonal this is a great porter for a fall evening or perhaps even a halloween party. I'm becoming very impressed with Founders as every beer I have tried has been exceptional.

Pint glass.

A: dark black; a finger of frothy tan foam.

S: not a huge aroma but definitely some coffeee and chocolate.

T: complex. Starts with chocolate flavor and then moves to coffee/hops/malts before ending with a bitter taste. The transitions are perfect.

M: creamy and silky smooth; a bit heavy; flavors linger (that's a good thing).

O: Great American Porter. With so many distinctive flavors, the transitions are very important and this porter does it perfectly.

First ever review on BA.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into wine glass. No bottling date. This one has several months on it.

A weak pour resulted in almost no head. Thin tan lacing that lingers. Near pitch black, a hint of translucent brown at the edges.

Dark chocolate on the nose first. Roasted malt bitterness. Maybe a hint of coffee. Smell approaches Breakfast Stout but with less coffee and oatmeal. Now that it warms, some dark fruit aromas breaking through.

Dark, rich, and sexy indeed. A great balance of flavors. Blend of chocolate and roasted barley throughout. Hops hit early and again at the end, but always secondary. Coffee towards the end. Lingering bitterness from the malt. Every time I drink this beer, I expect a sweeter finish. Then I remember it is a porter, not an imperial stout.

Creamy and smooth. For me, this is what separates Founders Porter from many others.

Overall, a delight. Never overpowering and does not try to do too much. Very drinkable.
