Thanks to my fellow BAer, bozebus17, for throwing this beer my way!
Pours a cloudy dark brownish copper with a hint of orange at the very bottom of the glass. There is about a finger sized head that quickly disappears on you with no lacing whatsoever. I didn't notice any carbonation bubbles either.
The first impression I got when I took a long deep breathe in the the glass was sweet malt and chocolate, oh my god, chocolate! It seems as though I was sniffing a fresh glass of dark chocolate milk. It just smells creamy and smooth.
The taste was roasted malt and grains combined with the chocolate. Not so much that it overpowers the drink but just enough to keep you sipping. Followed by a somewhat hoppy aftertaste.
Very smooth and creamy but for some reason I was expecting creamier.
This is definitely a great beer to drink during the winter (I know its not a seasonal!) while sitting next to a fire. I just might take my own advice very soon!

Ruby color with a small off-white head that dissipates almost immediately. A ring of soft bubbles is left around the glass but no lacing left behind.
Strong caramel malt in the aroma with a scotch/peat backbone.
Cloying sweetness from the malt and medium-bodied. Very rich but lacking complexity and is a little one-dimensional. Warming alcohol sensation in the finish.
This was a really underwhelming beer for me. I have enjoyed most of Founders' offerings so far, but this one just misses the mark for me. Not an undrinkable beer by any means, just something I won't be revisiting anytime soon.
