12oz bottle served in a snifter
A - Pours a cloudy mahogany with a thin tan cap. The head is thin and forms a tight collared ring around the glass.
S - Chocolate covered caramel, dense toffee, coffee, maple, roasted barley, brown sugar, canned cherries, salty, leather, spice.
T - Candied plumbs, brown sugar, chocolate, prunes, spicy but chalky bitterness, charred caramel, sugary cherries, hazelnut, amaretto, earthy peat moss, finishes sweet but a citrus bitterness creeps up on the edges creating a dryness. Orange tea tannins are left on the palate.
M - Medium to full body, rich with low carbonation,
Wow! This is one, if not the best American Wee Heavy's I've had to date. Probably the most bitter Scotch ale, but it works. Excellent layering of toffee/caramel with a touch of chocolate and coffee. Fruity and bready with a stellar rounded out bitter finish. What more could you want in a Scotch Ale?
