Pours a hazy brown color with a solid half inch beige head that leaves no lacing.
Aroma is smoky, peaty caramel malt, with hints of raisins and plums. Huge malt complexity, with brown sugar and vanilla adding intrigue.
Toasted bread forms the backbone of the flavor profile, with raisins, dates, figs, and plums adding complexity. There's a substantial smoky, peaty character that becomes evident, but not obtrusive, in the finish. There's a bit of dryness/bitterness to counter the malt sweetness.
Body is moderate, with moderate to low carbonation, and substantial alcohol warmth.
Overall, lots of malt complexity, not overly smoky or peaty. Good, albeit higher in alcohol, example of the style.
