Brownish pour with ruby accents in the color. Lots of floaties, small head which quickly subsides in to collar. Not a ton of lacing so far.
Smells of dark fruit and chocolate malt dunked in booze. Lots of boozy accents here.
Lots of bittersweet chocolate up front in the flavors. Not a lot of the smoky peatiness that one expects in a Scottish ale. More like an imperial stout than a Wee Heavy. Pleasant, just a little bit one dimensional. Off of the aroma I'd have expected some booziness in the flavors, but the alcohol is very well hidden. A bit of caramel creeps in as the beer warms up.
Decent mouthfeel, nothing out of the ordinary.
Goes down easily for an 8% beer. It's pretty filling so I don't think I'd have more than one of these.
Not my favorite Founders beer, but worth a try, especially if you are into malty beers.
