Served again on-tap at Patrick Henry's Pub & Grille in Richmond, VA on 11/2/11.
A - Pours a very dark brown color with a hint of red when held up to light. Pours a very smell head that quickly dissipates and does not cling to the glass. Very little carbonation. Overall, it has the appearance of flat coca-cola, but this beer makes up for its appearance through its excellent taste. 3.5
S - Molasses, brown sugar, caramel, and malt. Somewhat faint but a pleasing scent. 3.5
T - Heavy malt flavor that is slightly sweet with some tingle from the carbonation at the end. Also has a bitter, tea-like flavor at the back of the tongue. Hints of molasses, caramelized sugar, (possibly) chocolate, scotch, and butterscotch glide over the palate. The taste is hard to describe, but it's truly delicious. 4.5
M - Little carbonation and has a slightly thick consistency one might expect from an ale. Slight tingle at the end from the little carbonation present. Combined with the taste, this beer actually feels quite good. 4.0
O - Founders' Dirty Bastard has one thing completely right: taste. While the appearance and smell are somewhat lacking, the flavor and mouthfeel of this beer are far and above others that may strive harder just to have a better appearance and smell. If you are lucky enough to have Dirty Bastard on tap at a pub/bar near you, I highly recommend giving it a try. 4.0
