A- Dark tan/a little burnt orange color

S- Lots of smells, sweet, alcohol smell, malty smell

T- Earthy taste, sweet, kinda earth after taste

M- Silky, Smooth, body is between medium and heavy

O- Limed this beer a lot. I have a slight cold atm so my smell and taste might be a tad off. Really enjoyed the earthy taste it leaves on back of rouge/mouth

App- The color of caramel, nice creamy looking light tannish brown head that was quick to dissipate. nice lacing.

Smell-To cold when opened . I got: a small a good malty backbone with a slight sweetness.

Taste- The flavor profile was a good one. layered with caramel and malty sugary sweetness. though thin .

Mouth- A light body with a close to med/high carb level. A nice body to it. but could have been a little to carbed.

Aside from the exceptional name, this beer is just above average. The malt profile is anemic for the strong hop front flavor. The balance swings heavily towards IBU's, which just ruin a Scotch Ale (in my opinion). If this beer was bitter more on the front or middle I would be able to enjoy it more... but as a finishing flavor, it just doesn't have enough Malty Caramel to balance out.

A very unconventional scotch ale to say the least. At 50 IBUs with a much less pronounced malt profile than expected, this beer surprised me. It was fantastic beer but did not seem at all true to style. The hops are great for someone like myself but may not be what others are looking for when they choose to purchase this beer.

Founders Dirty Bastard is a cloudy, red-brown ale topped with a thin, bubbly, yellowish film. It has a sweet, whiskey like aroma; malty and resiny. It's pretty full bodied and smooth with a dusty finish. It's sweet and syrupy. It tastes malty and resiny, just like the aroma. There may be a hint of peat and lots of toffee. This is a solid and well done Scotch ale.

Pours a supper dark amber, almost tending towards blackness. The smell is sweet malt, with a hint of alcohol bit and perhaps some candied fruit?

This beer starts out a bit crisp, becomes fairly sweet, and ends with a hint of bitterness. From beginning to end this beer is immensely smooth, almost silky. Overall this beer is more sweet malt with just a hint of smokiness at the end.

Mouth-feel is very silky and full, a tasty beer with lots of flavor.

Bottle to Founders Snifter

Bottled 6/2012
Thanks to ErikKoppin for this one

App- The color of the bottle inside the glass with a bit of a caramel or a candy sheen with a nice creamy looking 1 finger light tannish brown head that was quick to dissapate. Left a couple dots of cling.

Smell- Hard to pick them all out as I think it was a touch too cold when I popped this open. I got: a small tinge of the ABV along with a good malty backbone with a slight sweetness and parlayed into

Taste- The flavor profile was a good one. Its been a while since I have had a scotch ale and this was quite flavorful and layered with caramel and malty sugary sweetness and a fullness behind it it as well.

Mouth- A nice medium body with a close to med/high carb level. A nice body to it. Just right carb level but could have been a little less to make it a bit dryer drink.

Drink- I guess I just like my Scotch Ales, BB. This was a good beer from Founders but like the amped up version better. I still have one of these to sit on for a year, so we will see what happens to it.

Bottled on 03/21/12, and opened almost seven months after bottling.

A: A slow pour into a standard pint glass resulted in about one finger of dark tan head that was very dense. After a few minutes the head dissipated to just a few swirls, and it also left a very good lacing. The brew was dark brown with a reddish hue; and, it was just barely translucent.

S: The aroma was fairly mild and consisted of maraschino cherries, a little booziness, and some malted barley toffee-like sweetness.

T: The taste was very much like the aroma: maraschino cherries and some booziness along with some malted barley sweetness. There was also just a little peat and earthy bitterness that provided a little balance.

M: The body was just toward the heavier side of medium with very little carbonation.

O: This was a very good scotch ale; but, the scotch ale style may not appeal to every beer drinker. Also, this one has just has just a little bit of harshness from its boozy flavor (But hey, it’s called “Dirty Bastard,” so you should expect a little extra harshness.) The maraschino cherry and the toffee sweetness were balanced by the booziness and the peaty and earthy hops bitterness. It all worked together well to create a scotch ale just complex enough to be interesting and just simple enough to be bold.

A - A lovely ruby ring head lies prettily around the top of the glass.

S - Candied fruit, slightly nutty (like roasted chestnuts), slight hop, all within a predominant caramel maltiness.

T - Caramel sweet followed by a pleasantly balanced bitterness that may be coming in part from a tannin character from the grain as much as the hop selection.

M - Silky smooth with light carbonation followed by lingering light hop viscosity. Simply wonderful.

O - This is a big beer with significant alcohol - otherwise I'd have 3 or 4! You generally can't go wrong at Founder's, but this was just a great pint and a nice finish on a lovely evening.
