A - The color is pours is a dark brown/red depending what kind of light is hitting it one finger head with spotty lacing.

S - Really nice and strong! A lot of malts and caramel, extremely sweet.

T - Really malt forward I'm not getting much bitterness at all and the bitterness I am getting goes away quickly, extremely sweet so many different flavors mostly strong caramel and a huge mass of dark fruits, plums, raisins etc.

M - Medium bodied with perfect touch of carbonation extremely smooth and pleasant.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint.

A: Pours really dark amber with a two-finger beige head, which looks nice and frothy. Retention and lacing are good. Looks nice.

S: Smell is earthy, peaty, caramel-y, malty, bready, and slightly hoppy.

T: There's a lot going on here...gotta sort out the flavors. This is a really malt-forward beer. The hops are slightly apparent and seem to act a balance to the various other flavors going on. Taste is immediate deep-roasted grain and caramel taste. The palate is also greeted with a tiny bit of dark fruit, peat, leather, musty earth, and a little bit of hops. The finish is slightly better, kind of like an unsweetened black tea.

M: Slightly thicker than medium, but not too heavy (pardon the pun...) The alcohol taste is pretty much non-existent, making it way too damn easy to drink for 8.5%.

O: Pretty complex and true to the style. I was expecting a bit more of a hop bomb, but thankfully that's far from the truth. Pretty good all around, in my opinion. Would definitely buy again.

12oz bottle into a tulip

A: Pours a dark reddish brown with a nice tan head that fades to a ring and leaves some lacing on the glass.

S: The nose is big on sweet caramel and toffee with a slight peat aroma in the background. Can definitely tell this is the backbone for Backwoods.

T: The taste is similar to the nose with nice flavors of caramel malt and slight toffee with a peat and slightly hoppy finish. Interesting that there is a decent hop presence on the finish I've never detected in Backwoods.

M: Feel is slightly creamy and medium bodied...a bit too bubbly on the finish for me.

O: I can definitely tell the greatness of Backwoods is right here. This is a few notches below that beer but still pretty tasty.
