12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass.

A mean, dark bronze with ruby highlights. An aggressive pour yielded a finger of frothy, light tan head with decent retention, and a tendency to stick to the glass.

The smell is initially of raisins, brandy, and a crazy mess of malts. Sadly, a bit of oxidized, metallic odor slowly crept in as well.

The taste is not bad though. Malt all around. Raisin is prevalent, some bitter cocoa as well. Caramel through and through. On the finish, alcohol sits on the tongue in a very impressively tasty kind of way. The mouthfeel is where this beer really shines, though, I'd say. Creamy, almost chewy. But never cloying or sticky.

A decent brew, and I can understand why a lot of people would like it. Perhaps it's silly to say that I expected a little more refinement from a beer called "Dirty Bastard". But I just went there. Yep.

Really a beautiful beer, dark brown with a steady cascade of miniature bubbles building into a fat tan foam finger. Its smells wee heavy, yut! with some thick molasses aromas and a bit of maple. A wave of malts smacks the palate. Huge flavors of multi grain bread and honey. A dry bite at the back end. Full bodied on the tongue, silky and sticky too.

Nice job Founders, love it and am coming to buy more of you soon.

An excellent scotch ale, although boozier than “normal” at 8.3% ABV (according to the chalk board at the bar attached to the brewery). The alcohol is scarily well hidden, except for a pleasantly mild burn at the very end.

Beautifully red amber colour with a decent head and a pleasant mouthfeel. Aroma has rye elements as well as caramelized malts and some peatiness. The flavour is malt-forward, with typical scotch elements more predominant at the end of the taste.

The finish is nicely bitter with smoky highlights, along with more citrus hoppiness than I typically associate with the style. As that's my own personal preference, I rate this more highly than many!
