I am giving the appearance good marks. The head looks different. I don't know if it's exceptional, but it's good. I like a little more sweetness personally. I haven't drank much scotch ale wee heavy, but this is darker than the others. In fact, it reminds me more of a Porter. Rich strong flavors caress your taste buds and you mmm that's good.

Goes down good with some Wilco playing on the jukebox.

A: Pours a delectable dark amber color with a miniscule ivory white head. The retention is proportionate to the head.

S: Deep caramel aromas explode quite nicely. The malts highly favor the caramel, but there is an unexpected toasty essences that resembles french toast cooking.

T: Those nose is the gateway to the taste. An excellent caramel, toasty bread flavor comes through in just the right way. No real bitterness to speak, but it is not overly sweet.

M: Once again the caramel characteristic seems to be the most significant factor. Similar to eating a piece of caramel, there is a sticky, chewy texture is left covering the palate. The toasty aspect does well to lighten the stickiness, so that the stickiness does not become overwhelming.

O: A very delicious brew that represents the style nicely. Founder's Brewery does very well to represent the style, and this is another example of how well they can achieve that a goal. A definite must try.

Poured this into a Founders snifter.

Thin tan head did not last too long, dispersed into pretty much nothing; looks flat. Color is super dark red and brown, almost rusty. smell is just ok, nothing spectacular. Hints of vanilla, some caramel, even smoke, maybe some dark fruit aromas, and minimal hops. taste is similar, but very smooth and light. Not a ton of bite in this. Overall this is just ok. I prefer other of Founders offerings to this. Not bad, but just does not compare to others I've had.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L – Ruby brown color with a 1-finger tan head that persists for a while and eventually dissipates into a tan film that lasts throughout. No lacing. Clear with a good amount of bubbles.

S – Tons of malts with toffee, caramel, molasses, and earthy aromas. Esters lend a subtle plum-like scent as well. Smells like this is going to be a rich, malty treat.

T – Follows the nose to a tee. Starts sweet and stays sweet throughout with lots of caramel, toffee, molasses, and dark fruit flavors. A smooth, earthy bitterness and smokiness appears toward the finish. There are signs of alcohol here as well. This is delicious.

F – Medium-to-full-bodied with decent carbonation, a rich, creamy, and velvet-smooth mouthfeel, and an earthy and dry finish. Malty caramel sweetness lingers for a little while along with earthy and smoky bitterness. These aftertastes complement the throat-warming sensation from the alcohol.

O – This beer is terrific. There is so much malty goodness in the aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. Perfect example of a Scotch ale/wee heavy. I wish Founders’ brewery was in my backyard so I could just drink all of their beer all the time. They kill it every single time.
