Appearance: Pours with a dark red/garnet color with a tan bubbly head. The head has good staying power and laces well. I love the color of this beer...

Smell: Lots of malt, lots of hops, and a faint tropical fruit aroma. I'm surprised to find no peat-smoked aroma here...

Taste: There's a lot of hops in this brew, so they didn't exactly conform to style guidelines. The hop flavor is aggressive. This is rough, but in a great way. Lots of flavor and complexity in this brew. Tropical fruits...burnt fruit...sugar sweetness...tons of malt...tons of hops... Ends with a huge wave of alcohol that overwhelms the other flavors fighting for attention.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thick You can really taste and feel the alcohol towards the end. Very nice...

Drinkability: Good for an 8.3%abv brew. Very warming and relaxing.

A- dark brown/ruby w/ very thin brownish/white head

S- sweet malts, caramel, toffe, touch of dark fruit and a Wiff of smoke/peat

T- awesome! Brown sugar caramel, toffe, peat and scotch characters finishes with a touch of sweetness and alcohol!!! I love it!

M- light carbonation on a big/medium body, silky mouthfeel, almost syrupy but not quiet, a great drinking scotch ale

O- one of my fav scotch ales, an awesome overall brew that's perfect for making a little inner warmth on a cold night, perfect to sip and enjoy!

A deep ruby brown with small tan head leaves lace, Dirty Bastard improves tremendously after it breathes and warms. Worth the wait and the drinkability is vastly improved.

Dark caramel brown sugar roasted barley and alcohol aromas. More complex aromatics rise with the temperature. Maple and roasted grain with some earthy peat flavor mellowed by dark sweet (never cloying) caramel.

Mouthfeel was creamy with full body and modest carbonation withdrew had a slick feel. Whiskey soaked plums and butterscotch and lingering caramel malt flavors in finish. Little going on with hops.

Not really my style but it was quite enjoyable.

Poured into a pint glass. Big stuff before the night ends, I hope.

Some brown-red hues to this dark mess. Nearly opaque. A hard pour yielded a humble head that faded fast. Soapy bubbles sit atop the surface. Sliding the glass around shows wannabe sticky lacing.

Big smell. Here goes my description: heaps of milky caramel, smokiness, apple skins, hard candy, turpentine.

Huge flavors of sweet caramel, sweet bread malts with a nice toast, red apple, alcohol, and a tinge of bloody steak. The smokiness is still here, offset by a subtle floral hop. This is a fully-realized Scotch Ale of massive proportions. Done right.

Not entirely full-bodied. The ABV is not shadowed perfectly. But, the carbonation is quiet enough to let the great body fill this one out.

Not as good as Backwoods, but this is the base, right? Great beer. Filling and heady in the best way. Get one!

12 oz. bottle served in a shaker pint at Buffalo Wild Wings.

A: Pours a dark brown with a ruby tinted edges. A thin tan head forms on the pour and leaves some soapy lace down the glass.

S: The nose is mainly all malts, a touch of smokiness and a very faint hop presence at the backend.

T: Rich caramel and bready malts are the major players in the taste. There is a touch of peat and a very light smoke as well.

M: Full bodied beer with ample carbonation. There is a slight peaty finish to this that lingers around.

O: Very easy drinking and a solid scotch ale. The variety of malts used really give this beer different layers of flavor.

single finger head on a brown and light amber cloudy body. Lots of lacing. Not much head retention. Aroma is a mix of caramel, cocoa, dark fruit and booze. Flavor is more of the same, with caramel and cocoa initially and a nice musty dark fruit finish. Medium to full body and moderate carbonation. Very flavorful scotch ale. One of my least favorite genres but this one is actually pretty good.
