Picked this up whilst in PA at Wegmans. Kinda wish grocery stores in CO rocked the same kind of selection.

A - a bit of light copper and straw with minimal head that only exists immediately after a pour or a sip.

S - the nose is sweet light ale with just a pinch of peppery goodness present. The sugars are noted.

T - the mango notes are all over this, presenting plenty of fruit juice and sugary sweetness. The habanero is not really present on the tongue...ever...but does its work in the back of the throat, lingering and begging for follow up sweet mango sips.

M - the carbonation is substantial while the sweet and spicey blend is honestly well balanced. Both primary flavors come through but are clearly distinguishable. It's hard to say the beer is 'one-note', but beyond the mango/habanero dichotomy, there's noting else there.

O - I'm actually really glad to try this beer. I like fruit beers and I love mangos. I also really like when peppers are used properly. While simple, I don't taste the 10%. I think this is a neat idea-beer that wasn't exemplary but still pulled off nicely.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for splitting this

Appearance: Pours clear, rich gold with some orange tones - average sized off white head fades to some wisps, leaves some streaks of lacing

Smell: Big, fleshy chunks of mango with an undercurrent of diced habanero - conveniently I enjoy both of these aromas, for they are rather prominent - hard to discern any citrus hop aromas beyond the mango, but I think they are there, with some orange - undercurrent of very pale malts

Taste: Mangoes and habaneros, together at last - sweet, fleshy mango, tastes oddly fresh, with some nice fruity juiciness - hard to describe, but the mangoes taste exceptionally whole, like they were added post-fermentation - the flavor of habaneros is obvious, and delicious - mango hits the tongue first, then it rapidly heats up with distinctive habanero heat - mild to medium level heat, far from the tear-inducing madness of some chili beers - just a touch of alcohol in the back, mostly muted by the heat

Mouthfeel: On the heavy side of medium, kind of oily and could use a little more carbonation, nice pepper heat in the finish

Overall: deal_with_it_dog_with_sunglasses.jpg

This is a beer brewed for a small proportion of the population, and I'm glad to be part of that demographic. I enjoy tropical fruit, I enjoy habaneros, I enjoy beers from Founders, and I like reviewing beer. I really enjoy this beer, so I'm scoring it accordingly.

look: 3.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

Appearance: Clear yellow-gold. Small white head drops to no cap or collar. Moderate carbonation.

Smell: Fresh mango flesh. A bit mealy with a light tropical thing. Tiny hint of spice and sweet malt. Slight hints of pineapple and apple. Mild with some lightly caramelized malt sweetness. Some minor vegetal stuff in the back.

Taste: Slightly sweet pale malts. Backing burst of heat from the habanero. Mango is fresh and slightly mealy. A bit of tangerine and pear. Slightly vegetal with some caramelized malts. Fruity more than spicy. Some lingering pepper. Warming pushes down some of the sweetness of the mango and allows the spice to shine through.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with low carbonation. Smooth and clean.

Overall: Mango Adequato.

I like it. It's has no depth, but it's spicy and sweet and refreshing. It's a summer beer and well played.

A: A nice yellow color with a little bit of haze to it, has about a finger of off white head at the top that leaves some nice sticky lacing around the glass as you drink it.

S: Mango right up front with a little bit of peach scent, lots of sweetness on this one but you do get a slight hint of spice.

T: Up front a little bitterness from the hops but mostly sweetness from the mango and tropical fruit with an awesome kick at the tail end.

M: Light Bodied with medium carbonation, a good amount of heat on the tongue but nothing crazy.

O: This beer was not bad at all, I loved that the heat this beer gave off was subtle and didnt leave my mouth burning the whole time I was drinking it, the sweetness of the Mangos makes the heat a good thing, not a bad fruit beer at all.

A bright gold-orange color but with a bit of a darker shade of yellow in the body, this one shines bright and clear. It grows a decently sized head on the pour, but it can't last very long. Founders knows how to structure a beer; the pepper's oils definitely detract from the head and leave it less able to stick. As such, it fades a bit quickly (though some foam remains throughout the session) and spotting is acheived, though with difficulty.
Sweeter than expected, the mango is all over the nose along with a powdered sugar sort of sweetness as well as that of honey. The heat shows up a bit with a little flesh to it.
The taste is what I was hoping for, though not fully manifested. The sweetness of the mango might come on a bit too strong, dulling the complexity and depth, but the pepper is manifested magnificently (yes). It comes in as strong heat right from the get-go, but not merely blind heat with no substance. Vegetal pepper flesh and pale malts are also present with it and the sweet mango juice. It remains strong without burning too hot, and resides in the back of the throat and on the lips after it's finished. It could use more substance to balance and vut through the mango sweetness, maybe a little more depth. It's mostly what I'd hoped for, though.
The body is medium, and the sweetness gives just a little too much. It's not quite slick, but it's almost there. It's crisp and has some smoothness, but not as much as it could.

Got this bottle, it was marked up to $17, hope it's worth it. 750 ml bottle poured into Spiegelau tulip.

Pours a golden clear body with a pure white head composed of large bubbles with decent retention and some lacing.

Smells heavily of mangos with some noticeable chili on the nose as well. Some alcohol present.

Syrupy mango sweetness with chili peppers, malty sweetness as well, there is certainly a good amount of heat on the back end of this, I believe it is from the chili peppers instead of alcohol, however. Definitely burns the back of the throat.

Mouth is sticky, syrupy, and full. Habenero heat finish.

Overall, I can't say I enjoyed this, and certainly wouldn't get it again. It's an experience for sure, but this one is a big miss from the backstage series. Only recommended if you love mango in your beer and don't mind a crazy chili pepper presence.

25.4oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Pours near clear with bubbles continuing to slowly rise. Minor head, quickly goes to a moderate film, collar and decent fine strands of lacing.

On the nose chili pepper bright and up front, with some mango present but in the rear.

I like a spiced up chile beer and this delivers and then some. Its a full on chilied up chili beer, with the hot and spicy chili up front again and quite well developed. Some mango shows up later in the mix as it warms up a bit. Body is a tad on the thin side.

Chile flavor on the tongue, chili warming the throat and chili heat warming the top of my heat. not quite bringing out a body sweat, but we are getting close. Chili burps always a plus! I was told in the store, to "make sure to share this bottle" and I see why. Not likely my wife will enjoy much more then a taste of this one...gonna put the bottle back in the fridge for later exploration. Also likely some of it will be used as a marinade for some kicked up fare.

Big, broad shouldered and HOT!
