As a big fan of Founders beers I couldn't help being disappointed with my visit to there brewpub. As a first time customer I was confused with the flow and set up. You walk in and their really isn't anything directing you or anyone helping you. Seems pretty disorganized. It's a very large wide open bar. Cafeteria style serving system. I had to wonder to find a place to sit, menu's, beer lists, and stand in line's.
Once I figured out the system it was ok. But I'm not a big fan of standing in line every time I want a beer or retrieving my food when a buzzer goes off. There were a few waitress walking around mostly cleaning up after people, but they would take drink orders if they happened to come your way at the right time. Never felt like they were checking on me though.
The Food was very good, deli style sandwiches named after their beers. And, all the typical offerings were great on tap as to be expected from Founders beer. They brewpub only offering for the most part I wasn't that thrilled with. I thought they were good but wouldn't order them again. They seemed to be playing it safe on a couple styles appealing to the masses which I suppose I cant fault them for, but I was hoping for more.
The gift shop/beer to go pick up left a lot to be desired as well. Although, the person working in there was the most helpful I dealt with in my entire visit.

Stopped by around 2pm so they were not busy. In my opinion the best time is during off hours like this. The large open indoor area becomes rather noisy when the crowds increase. I really like the way the porch area flows with the interior. You are outside yet feel close to the bar with the big garage doors open in the warmer months. The food is above average and they have a nice selection to choose from. The feel is very laid back and not rushed. If this place was closer, I would be there every day. A must stop when in Michigan not just the area.

I am a little shocked I never reviewd the Founders Tap Room before as I have been here many many times, and absolutely love it. It is a large warehouse style place with a huge bar. The bar and bar back looks incredible and I love the layout. Tables and seats adorn the entire place but it is rare when you can't find some seats. There is also a patio that you can hang out with more setas. And even better, there is an enclosed smoker area. Helps the smokers in winter, but more importantly the non-smokers don't have to smell it.
The beer is always world-class and there is never a time you won't find something rare and tasty. The list may not always be huge, but there is always something I want on tap.
The waitstaff shares duties with eachother, so even at the busiest of times you won't be waiting too long.
The food is damn good as well. There are a ton of different sandwich varities that appeases nearly everyone. There is some good pretzel and cheese combos and peanuts as well.
All in all, you can easily make a weekend in Grand Rapids with all of the breweries and Hop Cat, this one should always be the top of your list.

I stopped in for about the 20th time this past Saturday and have decided to review after so many good experiences.
I had Cashew Mountain Brown, Mister E Froot, 10K IPA, Breakfast Stout, and Devil Dancer. Also tried some samples of the honey wheat and All Day, and took a growler of Reds Rye for home.
As usual the beers were exceptional, particularly Mister E Froot and Cashew, but they were all incredible. The food was out of this world as well.
Stopped in the gift shop and bought a keychain/bottle opener, I already own all the glasses they carry and am waiting on a shirt to come in that I ordered :)
If you are anywhere near GR, make sure nad make the stop to Founders...you won't be sorry!! The only day they charge cover is Saturday (5 bucks starting late into the evening) for the bands they bring in...get there early and still no cover.

Stopped by last Friday afternoon with my girlfriend and her dad while visiting family in Kalamazoo. I love all Founder's beer I've ever tried so I wanted to see the source.
I was not disappointed. We ordered some food and a beer. It was kind of loud inside and the weather was tolerable so grabbed a seat on the patio.
The food was amazing. Most food items are named after their beers. I had a Devil Dancer sandwich that lived up to the description. Very hot and very delicious on toasted rye bread. All food at the table looked great.
Don't miss the tap only offerings while here. We had Cashew Mountain Brown and 10K IPA and both were very delicious.
Except for the inside volume level, everything aced the test. Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Michigan.

I stopped by Founders on my way home from Traverse City. We had time to stay for 1 pint and a walk through the gift shop.
We were greeted the minute we sat down at the bar, by a pleasant staff. They were out of quite a few things, but they all pointed out that Breakfast Stout had just been tapped, which happens to be my favorite beer. I probably took too much time enjoying my pint, but it just felt right being at the brewery, sipping on a pint, revelling in a beautiful summer day.
I walked through the gift shop, and was really pleased with the selection. I ended up picking up a shirt and a coffee mug, for a total of $28. At other breweries I've seen the same items go for as much as $40, so the price was definitely appealing.
I cannot wait to go back for a longer visit and try the food, and dig deeper into the tap list.

Visited Founders on a recent road trip with the girlfriend.
The first thing that struck me was how big the place was. Like a giant auditorium for beer geeks with a bar that spans almost the entire length of it. Ample seating and buzzing with activity even during the middle of the day. Really a beer lover's dream.
Beer is served at the right temperature in the proper glassware with a coaster. Can't complain. Extra points for the way the place is decorated and the quality of the beers themselves.
Service was above average. Even though it was packed when we got there, there were a ton of bartenders around and we always got served quickly and courteously.
The selection was great. About 6 year-round brews, 4-5 seasonals, and 2-3 "special" beers on tap as well as a nitro-tap. Given the quality of everything that Founders makes, an above average score is deserved here.
Really the highlight of the trip for me. Their Cashew Mountain Brown and Mister E Froot were completely amazing and the place was much larger, well serviced, and impressive than I expected. A real can't miss destination if you're in Michigan.
Pints ranged from $3.25-$5.00 for their special offerings. Bud Lights in my area start at $4.00. Need I say more? I steal in my opinion.

Been to founders many times before but now decided to review after coming here two days in a row.
Founders is always busy no matter what day or time you come in. The place is huge and can accomodate quite a few people. Most of the area is seating but there is a small stage area for bands and a porch outside that has a nice view.
Because its always busy, service suffers a little. They do a good job for the most part of making sure everyone has a beer, but not much beyond that. Had a short conversation with a waiter for the first time about their beer.
Their employees know what's up. They know their beer as they should. Have heard that you have to volunteer before you can actually get a job, so people are passionate about beer there.
Good prices and selection. They have about 12 to 15 taps. About 8 or so in the first tier (least expensive) and then 4 in the middle tier, and a couple in the specialty tier. About half of the beers were ones you can get in bottles and the others are one offs or brewpub only beers.
Food was a little above my price range, but nothing outrageous. Very good though, can't complain about the quality. Will go back to founders every time I'm iin grand rapids. Love their beer.

First day of vacation and the wife was nice enough to let me stop at founders on our way up north.
Got there right around dinner time. First off the place is huge! You could fit hundreds of people in there. Really cool pub atmosphere with a huge bar in the middle. The service was great. Our waitress explained the beer and the food ordering procedure well, and even brought me a sample of the Dipa they had on tap without me having to ask for it.
The food was pretty good as well. Yes it was just sandwiches, but they were good sandwiches. I had the red rye and the wife and kids had the grilled cheese.
I ended up having a flight of 5 tasters, the 4 sandwiches, and 2 growlers to go for under $70.
They also have a small gift shop with shirts, glassware, and other trinkets. I picked up a very cool founders snifter for under $7.
All in all I was super impressed by Founders. One of my favorite breweries, and it lived up to all expectations.

I was most excited to go to Founders while I was on my Microbrewery crawl and once we arrived I couldn't believe how many people just were there to have a beer and hangout. Parents brought their children and it was crazy to see the age group that was there. I did not realize how giant the acutal restaurant/ bar was.
I for the first time got to try Devil Dancer which I have been looking forward to try for the last year or so. Lived up to every expectation I have had. Was served in a nice snifter glass and once I was done with that beer I was good to go.
Sad to say I did not get to go on a tour there but I was just happy to have experienced going there. I can't wait till I am in the area again to go back but this time I would live to actually take the tour and learn more about the brewery itself! Cheers!
