This is the best brewery I have ever been to. It is very wide open similar to a large german beer hall. It has high vaulted ceilings and a large amount of bike racks (with actual bikes attached to them!) The menu is always something fierce and the food is great. Founders incorporates their beer with their food (they also suggest what beer with go with what food). They try to incorporate as many beer related things into the place as possible with center peices full of multi srm grains and hops. They have a large stage which is great for listening to performers. I simply can't say enough about founders brew co. They make absolutely world class beers and world class brewery to show the brews off.

Service was outstanding. Came in Wednesday about 12:30 pm and most seats were full. I sat at the bar and before I could finish review beer list a bartender stopped by and asked if I needed any help. While waiting for my beer to be served(not long wait) other bartenders stopped by asking if they could help. I didn't order food, but the menu looked decent.

One of the three stops on the trip that I was looking forward to the most. In large part because I had been informed that the Kentucky Breakfast Stout would be available on tap and in inherently large quantities. We arrived there in the afternoon, had a couple, including the Blushing Monk which is a must try, filled some growlers, and then headed back to drop off the van and check in to the hotel. After waiting an absurdly long time for a filthy taxi we were certainly hurtin' for some good food and brew. Founders promptly delivered both. The food was fantastic and the beer was even better. As we sat down in a packed room to order, the bartender we'd met that afternoon asked if we wouldn't mind switching tables with a larger group who was looking to push a couple tables together. We of course obliged and moved to another available table. The bartender, who was off the clock I'd expect, returned a few minutes later with a cardboard box full of cold bottles to thank us for moving tables. The easiest dozen bottles of beer I ever earned, and a really nice gesture. Fast forward a couple hours and I ended up singing a drunken rendition of Tom Petty's Free Fallin' on stage with the band. Needless to say, we had a blast. Some amazing beers on tap, great food, and great people made for possibly my favorite stop on the trip. If youre ever anywhere close to Grand Rapids, take a few hours and enjoy this amazing beer destination.

This place was solid even before the renovations but with all the changes is truly a world class beer hall. The new outdoor "beer garden" area is gigantic with multiple huge gas bonfires and plenty of outdoor gas heaters situated above the outdoor tables. I've been out here in November and it's still been pleasant although they do close down the outside bar around October. Some (but not all) of the outdoor area is covered so it could still be enjoyed in moderately inclement weather. There is also a convenient outdoor smoking area to the side of the patio.
Moving to the inside...as a pool player you can't beat the free! pool in the back. The two bars inside keep the lines reasonable even when it's busy. I really like the new two bar setup; if you're there for a show or enjoy being in the center of the activity the main area is a great spot to be. The second, new smaller bar located around the corner is great for a more intimate sit down or for catching the game on one of their big flat screens. They even let you fill up a growler and keep it in a fridge in their tap room.
The food is extremely good too. I've had the backwoods bastard sandwich which has pulled pork with Dirty Bastard infused BBQ sauce. I've also had most of their apps and they have all been solid. The bartenders are always knowledgable and have never hesitated to give me decent size samples of even their class 3 offerings.
Founders gets top marks for their amazing outdoor area, large and modern indoor space as well as their great food, beer and knowledgeable staff.

I've been to founders more times than I can keep track of and I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere is casual, relaxed and very amiable. The staff is a big plus, they are very knowledgeable, will let you sample anything and can make solid recommendations, even some interesting suggestions on beers to mix.
The tap list features all the standards like Dirty Bastard but there is usually some interesting stuff to try every couple of weeks (around 12 or so beers total, give or take a few). Just thoroughly enjoyed a SZRP of Doom a couple days ago.
The food menu is a little pricey and limited to sandwiches or snacks, but it tastes great and is made with quality ingredients.
Overall Founders picked a few things to do and does them right.

I started going to Founders in the late '90s when they were still up on Market Street NE and we could crush the peanuts on the floor and play pool and drink some craft beer that tasted better than the beer/water that us recent college grads were accustomed to.
Thankfully, their recipes improved over the years and outpaced even our ability to be the self-proclaimed experts we wanted to be.
We thoroughly enjoy the "new" location with the large deck, the live music, the great food, and most of all, the amazing beer. While the brewers get creative, they seem to pace themselves well to make sure they produce quality over quantity. Do I like everything they put out? No - but that's personal taste - not a matter of quality beer.
One of the only problems I have with Founders is finding a seat. While that is annoying, especially in the winter when the deck isn't available, it is also a quality I appreciate. Keeping it "small" is appreciated!
Their sandwiches and appetizers are well worth the trip as well. Their portions are good size (enough for left overs) and not greasy.
The only other problem I have is finding parking. It is definitely a challenge on a busy night and with recent expansion - it's become an even bigger issue. Hopefully with winter snow melt, we'll be able to find another spot or two soon.
Overall, Founders has created a great tap room, and most of all creates some of the absolute best beer around.

I'm going to raise a few criticisms, below, but overall, this is one of the best brewery taprooms I've ever visited.
Ducked in for a quick round--no food--with the bro-in-law and wife during a Christmas visit, so this is a snap judgment. The space seemed well planned, balancing the industrial feel of a working brewery (a la Brooklyn, 2 Bros) with the woody warmth of a pub (Goose, Full Sail)--sort of a scaled-down Deschutes, downtown Portland. Glass overhead garage doors open to an outside deck in the summer. Very chill atmosphere, though my wife wishes there were some seasonal touches. Good lesson there: make it nice for women!
Founder's is well rep'ed in Chicago, and we love all of their regular and seasonals, which are on their impressive tap list. Beyond these are the experimental brews, which include mint stouts, chai IPAs, and the like. We tried black biscuit, instead, which tasted like a drier Backwoods Bastard. BiL went for Big Froot (insert joke, here), which was a little over-the-top. Would've tried a wider range if the flights weren't $40 (! especially considering that nonics/pints were cheap!) for a massive round. I bumped down "selection" b/c of this. They had more taps than almost any other brewery, but I was bummed that I couldn't really try a decent cross-section.
Anyway, these criticisms are minor, and could be easily resolved. Founder's is a destination brewery.

An awesome place. We hit Founders before the crowds, which added to the experience. Mike (the co-owner) came out and talked to us about their beers, brewing and philosophy behind it all (summary: "We brew the beers we want to drink."). The place is a bit dark, but looking out over the Grand River out front and the brewery to the side. Selections (most well over 6% for those of us in NC who really appreciate what that means) are superb -- on tap while we were there: RIS, Breakfast Stout, Red's Rye, Trois (only for the faint hearted...if you're reading this, don't bother to taste it), Dirty Bastard, Oatmeal Stout, Pale Ale, IPA, and a Raspberry whose name I forget (but was made with a buttload of real raspberries).
I would bet the smoke could get a bit too much for me as the crowd came in, but the folks who were there were all friendly and fun to talk with. If I lived nearby, I'd be there very often!

this place was cool, I had not heard of founders ever, but when i found i was going to beautiful grand rapids for a convention i searched breweries and found this little doozy.
i wlked there from downtown, about 6 blocks, found this small place hidden in the base of a large building, the only drawback with michigan is you can still smoke in the bars, it takes away from my pleasure in tasting beer and not smoke in my face.
good spot they had a great selection of brews from lighter pilsners to very strong barley wine beers, the ipa was great and the people were nice, bought a pretty cool anniversary glass also.
