Made the trek out here yesterday and was well-rewarded. I really enjoyed the atmosphere - long bar with tables and chairs, plenty of space. Lots of wood, with brewing tanks behind glass at one end. Pool table and darts at the other end.
The beer selection was exceptional, the highlights being KBS and CBS. On any other visit, the availability of BA imperial stout also would have been a major treat unto itself. But with KBS and CBS, I didn't even bother finishing my glass of BA imperial stout.
The server was very friendly and had very good knowledge of the beers. I asked her about one beer, and appreciated her candor in advising me that "you don't want that one."
Overall, I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area. But check their tap list online first to make sure they have what you're hoping for.

It's the Taproom for one of the best breweries in the America. It's flat-out amazing, not like psychedelic or once in a lifetime, it's just a really cool place. I can't say the atmosphere is perfect, because the HUGE amount of tables seems to make you think they want to sell food...
Until you sidle to the bar, grab a stool and start bullshitting with the staff. They know the beer, they all drink it, and they can all describe it in beer lingo so you can make an educated choice. Team approach to serving, so I have no idea who got the sweet 30% tip I left, but they were all friendly, they were eager to keep my glass full, and there was no awkward infighting between the staff. They all genuinely look like they love their job.
The beer is all quality; if you don't like a particular beer, it isn't the quality, it's just not your style. The food is good, servings are huge (a half-sandwich is perfect for normal people, the overeaters can get a full, but it isn't necessary).
Great place to eat and have a beer, I go every time I am in town.

Very chill and inviting place to be, open area with lots of seating indoors and out, a place where you can throw peanuts on the floor and enjoy a good beer with friends.
Service is solid, they know beer and are very friendly.
The food menu is mostly sandwiches and some odds and ends like dips and pizza, all very tasty. This is not necessarily a place I'd go specifically to eat, but if I go there for a beer and am hungry, I won't be disappointed.
The beer, the reason to go here, is excellent. There is a solid selection with a good range of styles, list changes frequently, but is available online. Three classes of beers from the standards to the specialties.
Prices are very reasonable, especially compared to other bars in the area. I can get a good pint here for the price of a generic lager up the street.
Value is even better on Mondays for cheap pint night (very busy, but worth it).

I like the new digs even better than the old. It's a bigger, better version of Founders. Founders is fantastic.
old review follows. I was at Founders about 10:30 on a Friday night. I almost expected this place to be smaller. It is small, but it had an open feel due mostly to its high ceilings. When I looked at the jukebox, I knew this was my kind of place. Frank Zappa, the Pixies, Tom Waits; I had to throw a couple of bucks in that.
Now to the important stuff, beer. Twelve beers on the board. I started with the Chocolate Rye Porter and it was delicious. I then tried the Oatmeal Stout, it wasn't as good as the CR Porter. Then ended with a tasty glass of Dirty Bastard. I was hoping to try the Devil Dancer, but I missed out. I guess that is one drawback when you rotate so many beers.
I didn't quiz the waitress on her beer knowledge. It was a Friday night, and she had quite a few patrons to serve. The waitress was friendly and served us quickly. No food is served, except for popcorn and peanuts.
This is a showcase for a fine brewer. If you are anywhere near Grand Rapids, stop here for a beer. This was the highlight of my weekend in Michigan.

Went on a Tuesday evening, yet there was barely a seat in the house!
However, I was able to get a seat at the bar and was served in less than 2 minutes even considering how busy it was. The guy who served me could tell me and even describe each beer available.
Founders looks a little industrial, but has an old fashioned vibe at the same time. Big fold out doors/windows let the summer air and sun in. Comfortable and has a nice vibe; its was busy like I mentioned above, but not too loud where you would have to yell a conversation.
The food ordering is a little strange, but the food I have had was nothing to complain about.
Plain and simple, superb service, atmosphere, great beer, friends and family is never a bad combination.

The atmosphere at Founders is amazing. There are people from all walks of life that frequent Founders to enjoy some amazing brews.
The quality of of Founders beer is top notch. The beer is never disappointing.
Service is very good as well, everyone at Founders is there because they love beer, even though this place is always busy the service is still pretty reasonable.
Ive only had one item off there menu but it was amazing, a little expensive but definitively worth it if you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary.
Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food/beer that they serve!

This is my fourth trip to Founders and as I went to up-date the new local, I've yet to review the place.
This is for the new location, which is great. Located downtown, just minutes from the old place. We stopped in around noon time on a saturday. There is one row of parking at the front, more around the side and back. Other warehouse lots are close if you go at a peak time.
At the time we went, only 20% of the tables were used, so plenty of room and space. They have a deli and with the decor, it fits in perfect. The menu looked great, by deli standards, with an ave price around 7.50 per. We brought our own pizza in, which can be done, very cool.
Next to the deli, a gift display of shirts and glasses. Had to hit that!
The bar is long and looks great. Signs of whats on-tap are easy to read with the abv. listed. There is a small to go cooler with packs and singles. Gotta hit that.
The brewing room, behind glass at the far end, where the magic happens, looks great!!
Everytime I get to Founders I find something new. This trip only about five taps used, The mainstay beers. This trip I had Reds Rye. The pint was 3.75. I was able to pick up Old Curmudgeon, rotated release. And Backwoods Bastard, brewed once.
Even at the brewery, it can be a crap shoot as to what beers are available. Abit pricey, depends on your outlook. The Backwoods 4, was around 13 bucks, worth it? Oh ya, Founders is my favorite Michigan brewery.
The new location is great, stop in, a must!!

--My review from Yelp.--
Everything I expected.
I walked in about 15 minutes after they opened and the place was basically barren. By the time we walked out 90 minutes later, they were completely packed and there was a line almost out the door. I think that speaks for itself.
...but in case it doesn't, I'll elaborate. Upon walking in, you'll notice how massive this place is. There's a lot of seating, but it's not crammed at all, at least not at the main bar area when you first walk in, to the left.
I'm feeling too damn lazy to write up a lengthy review, so I'll just give some bullet points.
1.) The server was knowledgeable about the beers on tap, which I'd expect, and was very happy to see.
2.) The brews have tiers 1-3, with 1 being the cheapest, and 3 being most expensive.
3.) The food is nearly excellent, with a nice variety of sandwiches to enjoy, at fair prices.
That explains Founders in a reasonably short review. The beer is some of the best you'll find anywhere, the food is very well worth waiting for (we didn't wait more than 10 minutes, but they weren't busy when we ordered), the staff is trained well, the bathrooms are clean... it's just a great experience. I expected nothing less out of Founders, and my visit there was probably the highlight of my brief trip to Grand Rapids.

I was there at a busy period but intended to make a quick stop on my way home. The server was very helpful in guiding me to reasonable samples knowing I would be driving within 30 minutes. The beers I tried were delicious and true to their styles.
The shop is attached to the tasting room and was well-stocked with bottles for me to take home with me. Prices for swag was reasonable. The cashier in the shop made the wonderful suggestion of mixing the cherry with the stout.
Definitely worth the trip and not far off the Interstate if you're just passing through Grand Rapids.

great place; never gets old, beers are always on point, something interesting always to be found, and the food is fresh, served fairly promptly, and seems well-thought-out. Wish I lived next door. Will go back again tomorrow, and every single time I'm within a couple hours driving...
