Well this review will show how much of a beer geek I have become. My only plan for today was to drive 123 miles one way to Grand Rapids to visit Founders brewery. Excellent directions on mapquest. Most of my friends don't appreciate craft brews, so I had no one to ride with me. I must be a loser. Arrived at the brewery shortly after noon. Not too busy, so I sat at the bar. Nice relaxed, casual atmoshere inside. High ceilings and wood floors give this place a nice rustic feel. Nice big windows to look outside. One computer terminal is available for on line access. The bar seats about 8 or 10 people, with many table and chairs available for bigger groups. There is a chalkboard above the bar with the taplist and alcohol content of their brews. Excellent waitstaff, my mug never went try. I enjoyed a breakfast stout, centennial ipa, and a pint of their oatmeal stout. All were very good and tasty. They also let me sample their Rubaeus and Belgium Razz, both fruit beers with rasberrries, both very tasty, the Belgium Razz has a higher alcohol content, and has just a little more flavor. I wish they would bottle it. Peanuts, cheese and pretzels, and a variety of deli sandwiches are available. Prices are reasonable and their food is good. I bought a growler of their IPA for $11, refills are $8. I also was able to pick up a Devil Dancer and Black Rye t-shirt for $16 a piece. They have a cooler there to purchases bottled beer. Two hours drive there, two hours at the brewery, and two hours ride back. What a great way to spend a day off from work! Highly recommenend!!! I can't wait to make many return visits. Thank you Founders!!!

Came with some friends on KBS weekend. Wow, this place is huge. Tons of different Founders offerings on tap. I had pints of Hand Of Doom, Southisland IPA, Reds Rye, Canadian Breakfast Stout(fucking awesome beer) and Nitro KBS '10. Also picked up some growlers of Reds Rye and Dirty Bastard for under $30. Had a delicious mug clubber sandwhich from a menu that was huge. Prices were resonable all around, and good service. Very busy place though, but its pretty sweet. Love their beer. Got my case of KBS too!!

Stopped by last Friday afternoon with my girlfriend and her dad while visiting family in Kalamazoo. I love all Founder's beer I've ever tried so I wanted to see the source.

I was not disappointed. We ordered some food and a beer. It was kind of loud inside and the weather was tolerable so grabbed a seat on the patio.

The food was amazing. Most food items are named after their beers. I had a Devil Dancer sandwich that lived up to the description. Very hot and very delicious on toasted rye bread. All food at the table looked great.

Don't miss the tap only offerings while here. We had Cashew Mountain Brown and 10K IPA and both were very delicious.

Except for the inside volume level, everything aced the test. Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Michigan.

Stopped into for a Monday lunch, after a long weekend in South Bend, IN...

This place is huge! When walking up to the front door, the first thing you notice is the massive patio that stretches from one end of the building to the other. It looks like a great place to hang out on a nice night in the summer. Once inside, it's apparent that Founders does a ton of business here. The bar is really long, and there are a good amount of tables that are spaced out along the font of the building. It was about Noon when I got there, and had no problem finding a bar seat.

The tap selection was pretty decent (all of their regular beers were there), but I would have loved to see more than just one rare/limited offering. At the time I visited, they had their Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Rye Stout. (The BA Rye Stout was pretty damn good though. It reminded me of KBS, but with a some added spice and a little less body.)

For lunch, I ordered The Castro (a cuban sandwich on ciabatta bread) with a side of red-skinned potato salad. The food was decent, but it's nothing to write home about.

I noticed were the mass number of "mug club" mugs that were displayed behind the bar. There must have been a solid 900+ personalized mugs, which makes sense considering how I could see this place being a regular Grand Rapids hang-out.

All in all, it was a good trip, and I'm glad I visited. Hopefully some day I'll return.

I find myself in the Grand Rapids area a couple of times a year and always try to get to Founders whenever I can. I was there a few weeks ago and had a great experience, as always. It was a little more difficult trying to navigate around and find parking since they are in the midst of a large expansion project, but that's my only complaint. The service was outstanding, even though it was very crowded. The food was great. Be sure to get a pitcher of water if you order the Devil Dancer sandwich. Boy, was that thing hot! The beer selection is incredible. I wish I had a place like this right in back yard! They didn't have anything available for take out that I can't get at my local liquor store, so I didn't bring anything home, but they did have several brewery-only releases on tap that I was able to sample. Highly recommended for a visit if you're in the area.

Founders is a great brewing company and their building is also of the higher quality. They usually have pretty good specials and draw a nice crowd. Sometimes it can be a little loud, but it isn't because of the "club scene" but rather because there are so many people there and they are there for a good reason.

The service can be pretty good on some days and pretty poor on others, but it's only poor when the place is incredibly busy and there are so many people to serve. The people are friendly, including the staff, which is a huge plus.

Founders serves only their beers, but there are so many to choose from that you don't feel you are missing out. To add to their quantity of beers, they also have quality. Each of their brews is a notable beer.

The food is also pretty tasty. Once again, if it is busy it might take a while, but the food is worth the wait since you should stick around anyway and enjoy another beer.

The second stop, after Hopcat for our anniversary trip in Aug 08. A very large bar and a lot of seating. What a selection of beer they had on tap. The were about 15 different beers including breakfast stout and bourbon barrel aged porter (incredible). My wife and I split a sandwich, which we both really enjoyed. A couple of bands were there and they were pretty good, although it was too loud for my liking. You pretty much had to shout to talk. They had some shirts and glassware along with beer for sale. Overall, a great brewery and experience.

Stopped by during a 48 hour trip to Grand Rapids.

Walked up to a huge airplane hanger sized room. Tons of tables, and a long expansive bar along one wall. I was there around 4pm on a Tuesday, and it was pretty busy. I grabbed a seat at the bar.

Bartender was on me right away. I never had to sit with an empty glass. Great tap list, almost all the beers I was hoping to try, and a great list of one-offs and barrel aged beers. No Canadian Breakfast Stout, curses!

Prices were decent, and I could get a variety of size pours, excellent for sampling. Prices reasonable for the standards, seemed a bit high for the barrel aged stuff but I don't have much to compare it to in Michigan. A few TVs spaced kind of poorly. Crowd is mellow, keep to themselves, not too loud. They offer a Beers-To-Go case at the end, but not a lot of variety, mainly the most recent stuff.

You can order sandwiches at the window, get a beeper and you pick it up when they are ready. I got a sandwich, pretty good but a bit overloaded with too much stuff. You have to pay separately at the food window.

This is a Must Visit if you are in Southwest Michigan, their beers are top notch. Be sure to walk up to HopCat nearby as well.

Founders was amazing We went for my 23rd b-day right after DDL...Total local vibe in there. Staff was great. Gotta love the crazy hippie beards! Holy crap.

Bar manager introduced us to the local beer store owner at the other end of the bar. "Sicilano's bottle shop". He was so stoked we were up all the way from FL he bought us a round of KBS 09. Yum. :)

The place looks great with all the wood finish. Simple beer menu up in chalk. They do mainly drafts, and you can get bottles to-go. My favorite section of the menu is the really big stuff on the right side. We pretty much stuck to that. Had to soak up Founders finest. :)

Overall this is a must hit beer stop for any beer geek that loves huge black as night american micro brews. We had 2 sippers while we were there. Barrel aged Imperial Stout and the KBS 09. Hell of a b-day...I wish everyday could be that amazing...

Visited here a while ago, and really enjoyed myself.

The room is almost like a big beer hall or a beer hall mixed with a small concert venue, and I really dig the whole atmosphere and feeling of space. Really long cool bar as well and a lot of easy to read tap lists.

The beers are served amazingly at the right temp with good glassware, and the prices are very reasonable! Some of the servers seemed sort of disinterested but then some of them went way out of their way to help my wife and I with getting the merchandise and more that we needed.

The taps seem like they keep some rare stuff on there: They had a test run of Devil Dancer, Kaiser Curmugeon, their new Session IPA, and a couple other things that have not been distributed so that was really cool and makes it really worth it to stop in and check out what they have.

For food, I only really had the cheese dip with the bread and sesame sticks so I can't comment too much on that, but overall it's not really a restaurant first, it's a bar first, though they looked like they had a huge amount of cool looking sandwiches I would try if I came back.

Overall a great experience at one of my all time favorite breweries.

This place is huge, tons of seat yourself seating inside and out. Service was very quick. Roaming servers take drink orders and deliver quickly. Lost of great beers to choose from.

Food is ordered from a separate window with a pager given for pick up. I had the cheesesteak, their most popular sandwich, my fiancé had turkey Ruben sandwich. We split a small side of potato salad. Overall the food was great. Quick service.
