Made the trek out here yesterday and was well-rewarded. I really enjoyed the atmosphere - long bar with tables and chairs, plenty of space. Lots of wood, with brewing tanks behind glass at one end. Pool table and darts at the other end.
The beer selection was exceptional, the highlights being KBS and CBS. On any other visit, the availability of BA imperial stout also would have been a major treat unto itself. But with KBS and CBS, I didn't even bother finishing my glass of BA imperial stout.
The server was very friendly and had very good knowledge of the beers. I asked her about one beer, and appreciated her candor in advising me that "you don't want that one."
Overall, I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area. But check their tap list online first to make sure they have what you're hoping for.

I had heard, through word-of-mouth, that CBS had been tapped. In a frantic rush, I made my way across town to Founders' relatively new location on Grandville Ave. I parked in back, and was engulfed in a sweet malty aroma. I saw steam pouring out of the ceiling vents, and deduced that the rich aroma was coming from a batch brewing inside.
A: everything about this place is dedicated to beer. No spirits, no wine, just good beer. The crowd is saturated with beer lovers, and the staff is equally enthusiastic about it. Standing out, over the custom founders chairs and the GR gentrification theme, the end of the building is a glass wall, allowing all to view the brewery in action. Brewery staff are constantly running up the stairs to the mash tub, ensuring proper temperature. Their faces stern with attention, showing that they are giving their all to produce the best product possible.
Q: the fact that the Best of BA list is riddled with their offerings is proof enough that Founders' objective is delivering quality product. The use of proper glassware reinforces this mantra, using elegant snifters wherever necessary.
S: the staff here are enthusiastic as the patrons, teeming with pride over their employer's success, and sharing the love of the delightful products that they offer.
S: while the selection is limited to their beers, they have 12 of them on tap. They are all ales, but they span a spectrum of flavor to accommodate those who can't appreciate their true gems. They also offer a ton of stuff that isn't bottled, driving you to keep coming back so that none of the works of art are ever missed.
F: while their menu is limited to appetizers and sandwhiches, the food is outstanding. The hummus and pitas are my favorite. Everything is fresh and well-crafted.
V: 7.50 for specialties, 5,50 for class two, and 3,75 for class one ales. They are well worth the money for what you are getting.

The atmosphere is fair, it's a little big and open, like a high school cafeteria and it's noisy. They have a long wooden bar with custom made aluminum and wood bar stools. The backbar area consists of dark wooden shelves filled with clear glassware. The best parts of the bar are the 15 Founders taps in the center of the backbar with the stained glass Founders sign behind them. There is a nice atmosphere around the bar and it was unfortunate when I was there that there were no empty seats. I was forced to rely on the hospitality of a couple of locals at a table with a couple of empty seats. They were happy for us to join them.
The beer was fantastic as was the selection. They had 15 of their beers on tap. Prices ranged from $3.75 for a pint from their premium lineup to $4.50 for their doubles to $5.50 for their specialties. (That's from memory but it's close). They also sell 5 oz servings starting at (I think) $2.00. All prices seemed pretty reasonable considering the quality of the product.
Their brewery is on full display and is very impressive. Behind a glass wall you can view the all stainless steel mash tun, brew kettle as well as many, many fermenters and storage tanks. During our visit, there were a couple of guys back there brewing making it look easy to turnout this primo stuff. I had to toast them and they waved and laughed.
The service was very good. I never had an empty glass! The menu looked good, mostly sandwiches with cute Founders beer type names. We didn't get a chance to sample the food since there were other places to visit in Grand Rapid (the beer capitol of Michigan).
I will visit Founders on every trip to the area.

It's the Taproom for one of the best breweries in the America. It's flat-out amazing, not like psychedelic or once in a lifetime, it's just a really cool place. I can't say the atmosphere is perfect, because the HUGE amount of tables seems to make you think they want to sell food...
Until you sidle to the bar, grab a stool and start bullshitting with the staff. They know the beer, they all drink it, and they can all describe it in beer lingo so you can make an educated choice. Team approach to serving, so I have no idea who got the sweet 30% tip I left, but they were all friendly, they were eager to keep my glass full, and there was no awkward infighting between the staff. They all genuinely look like they love their job.
The beer is all quality; if you don't like a particular beer, it isn't the quality, it's just not your style. The food is good, servings are huge (a half-sandwich is perfect for normal people, the overeaters can get a full, but it isn't necessary).
Great place to eat and have a beer, I go every time I am in town.

Stopped here after Dark Lord, saw phatz and beerbeing there ( I was one of the two young guys with cardinals hats on) Absolutely love this place. I would be infinitely happy if this was my local bar.
So to tell my story of patronizing. Me and my friend Ryan (ba name rysky) pull up and get a spot almost directly in front of this place. We came nonstop from munster and walk in just exausted. That didnt last long, the atmosphere in this place is so personalble. Its like any local bar, regulars, local live music, decent selection on tap, and decent nourishment (at least for what they had available which was pretzels with horseradish cheese) First thing I had was an Imperial Stout on tap. Almost brought a tear to my eye. See being from St. Louis really deprives you of things like this, and believe me, when you say Schlafly I say not even close. The bartender the first night we were there wasnt so chatty, but I didnt think twice of it. The next night we were in, a cute petite light brown haired bartender was working (never did get her name which I regret) She was amazing, just very social. Always made sure we were ok and even gave us an impromptu tour of the brewery because they were slow enough she said. Talk about above and beyond. It was just a great experience and I highly recommend this place to anyone within the united states. Definitely going to be a stop to make after dark lord day for many years to come!
