Very dark pour, dark tan head. Rich roast nose, balanced out with some fresh cone hope. Espresso roast coffee.
Entry is very traditional porter, nice roast malt, chocolate, drying sensation on mid-palate. Hop flavors linger for just a moment late. Very complex flavor profile. Coffee bitterness dances in the roast malt.
Only drawback is a bit of bite on aftertaste. It just lingers in a way that is not particularly pleasing. The generous roast malt and chocolate flavors far outweight that minor fault. Generous hop bill provides balance, but does not take over.
Another good one from Emmett's.

Served in an imperial pint glass at the Palatine brewpub.
Finishing this golf-filled visit with a draft pour of a beer that I always meant to try when the bottles still appeared on shelves around here. It pours a straight obsidian (darker than I thought it'd be) topped by a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises darkly-roasted malts and a bit of coffee. The taste brings in more of the same, with a stronger sense of roast and a vague intimation of char-based smoke. The body is a straight medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a nice, appropriately strong porter, a welcome addition to any beer lineup.

Also grabbed a single of this from Dobby's down the street from the brewery. Bottom of bottle has a julian date "1010" Jan 10th, 2011.
A cascade of creamy mocha foam that leaves a sticky halo of lacing inside the glass. Black body with reddish mahogany edges in the light. Lots of lasting lacing, paired with solid head retention.
Soft roasty coffee and bakers chocolate in the aroma, though it's understated. Pretty mellow in general.
Very smooth and light bodied, a little bit less fortitude than you'd expect for a "robust" porter. Nice roasty notes, softly smoky and slightly ashy. Vague bitterness, mild coffee and unsweetened chocolate flavors comprise the core elements. Could use a bit more oomph, but it's a nice session porter nonetheless.

A: The deepest, darkest brown with a fringe of ruby on the edges. Mocha head that stays capped and leaves lingering lace.
S: Roasted malts, coffee notes, chocolate aromas.
T: Tangy...bitter. Light chocolate and roasted coffee flavors. A lingering bitterness remains for quite some time...reminiscent of the 75%-80%+ cocoa bars I enjoy regularly.
M: Carbonation on target. Medium body. Creamy when swirled.
O: A nice above average porter. Nothing mind blowing but holds its own against many I have had.

The color is black with maybe some dark brown. The head is brown and is about two fingers in thickness and leaves almost a full size foam atop the beer. To dark to see any bubbling.
The aroma is great roasted malts lending semlls of dark chocolate, coffee, cream, and some vanilla. Classic AP aroma!
The taste starts with full on roasted malts that lend a dark chocolate flavor. The palate is a little thin at first. The middle has added coffee flavors to the roasted dark chocolate malt flavors. The finish has a creamy palate with a little milk touching up the flavor.
Great session beer full of flvor and just what this IL beer geek needs after a long day on the job.

Thanks ChadQuest for the bottle.
Appearance: Dark beer. Suspiciously thin looking on the edges. More clear than prune colored.
Smell: Roasty flavors. Barley, Roasted Malts, light chocolate and coffee smells. Reminds me of Black Butte.
Taste: Again close to Black Butte in flavor. Not quite as tasty, but still good. Similar notes as the nose.
Mouthfeel: Thin and overly carbonated. I don't want to say this ruined the beer. I finished it, and I only finish beers that I am enjoying to some degree. It definitely is a big detractor though. I don't need a porter to be as thick as syrup, but it shouldn't feel like soda in my mouth.
Drinkability: Pour mouthfeel but good flavor. I wanted to drink it but I kept thinking it could be so much better.

Served in a pint glass
Found this beer down at Dobby's down the street from the brew pub itself. This pours a nice really dark brown color, with a serious amount of head on it. To the point it may have too much foam. There is a strong aroma of brown sugar, more than in any other beer that I've ever had the good fortune to sniff. There is a nice almost faint hint of citrus hop in the background of this beer. It's a very sweet chocolate aroma as well. The flavor is fairly chocolaty in nature. The beer is malty and sweet with a nip of citrus in the background. Slight bitterness from the roasted chocolate malts on the sides of the tongue. The mouthfeel is a tad watery for my liking, but the carbonation is spot on for the viscosity, not too bad at all. It is really a pleasant drinking beer, nothing special but a very mild nice porter that is easy going an nice to drink. I recommendation for a run of the mill porter.
