This was a difficult place to review. If you're looking for a nice romantic weekend, this is the place to go. If you're looking for good beer and food, try somewhere else.

This beautiful inn is a 15 minute ferry ride from Portland, just a short walk from the dock. There are six rooms in the inn. We stayed in the Cliff Island Suite, which has a sitting room overlooking the bay, a bedroom, and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi. The sitting room has a gas fireplace. My wife and I sat on the couch, toasted our wedding anniversary, and relaxed.

There are a total of six rooms at the inn, all upstairs. We talked with another couple who also thought their room was way more than adequate. The rooms are simply furnished and very comfortable.

Downstairs is the pub/restaurant. The pub part has a small bar with seven stools, and four tables. The restaurant part, lighter than the pub, has a dozen tables. Much more ambience in the pub.

We arrived mid-afternoon, and were hungry, so we hit the pub. As I said, very comfortable and dark. TVs were showing college basketball. This place has a 15 gallon brewing system, where they brew Shipyard products. When we were there they had Old Thumper in cask (which they brewed) ; and Blue Fin Stout, Brown Ale, Export Ale, and Carabassett Pale Ale on tap. Bottled beers included Miller Lite, Bud Light, Ols Thumper, Sea Dog Bluberry Wheat, and St Pauli Girl non-alcoholic. Not a very inspiring lineup. My wife had a cosmopolitan and I had cask Old Thumper, which was very good. I stuck with that through the weekend. We shared an appetizer of fried Maine shrimp, which was quite good. The bartender was excellent.

After a walk cut short by wind and cold, and some downtime in the room, we returned for dinner. This was just short of a disaster. Our waiter was generally clueless. He couldn't remember to bring water to the table, despite being asked several times. Once our food was served, he disappeared to play ping pong. My caesar salad had an oil and vinegar dressing. My wife ordered a shrimp dinner which was nice enough if you didn't count the dry rice it came with. I ordered a New York strip steak rare. It was perfect, except that it was a ribeye, not a New York Strip. Desserts were ordinary.

My wife and I went to Peak's Island looking for a romantic weekend. We found that; I'd stay at this place in a heartbeat. The limited beer selection was OK, and the food was pretty good overall.

My wife and I made the trip to the Inn at Peaks Island based on their advertising a small brewing system on site that they use to brew Shipyard products. The only other review posted confirms that they had a system, but when we arrived and requested a tour, we were told it was no longer in use, and had not been used in 8 months! This was pretty disappointing. The rooms were quite nice, and the food was not bad, but limited beer selection, lack of beer knowledge by the 2 bartenders we interacted with, and the lack of brewing going on combined to make this rather expensive side trip a waste.
