I just wanted to take a moment to give special thanks to the staff of Jenifer St. For taking so much damn care of a group of 6 best friends that needed good beer but would've been unfortunately one week too late- I'll never forget that hospitality and I'll never stop recommending ya'll to anybody. Just trust me BA world on this one, if ya wanna know what they saved that'll have to wait for another day, but I'll tell you this much, this place is nothing short of perfect. Hooray, hooray!

pound for pound, best place in town, small for size but great selection considering how tight it is, always have new stuff before most in town. while the price is a touch more than woodman's, its the best on the isthmus hands down & the best in town for sales, if the beers been around for a bit they knock 2-3 bucks off & it goes fast, unlike woodman's who have 6-9 month old beers covered in dust all over the store, don't know why more stores don't take this approach. the beer guy here is super beer nerdy in the best way and very approachable & he seems to be in the cooler for some amount of time for 75% of my visits. to all out of towners, come here first.

*My review from Yelp*

This won't be a very helpful review because the only reason I really came here was specifically for their beer...

A surprisingly good selection of beer that's entirely found inside of a walk-in daaaamn cold fridge (almost freezer) in the back corner of the store. The selection is great, the pricing is fair, and the beer (at least what I got) is fresh. I can't attest to other items in the store being expired like some reviewers are complaining about, other than that my dad got a few things from around the store and they weren't expired. Or, if they were, he didn't get sick or keel over and die from anything he got at Jenifer Street Market.

It's not a true beer store, but if you're in Madison and want beer, stop by. I knock off a star because they're cash only, and they don't have a true singles section for their beers. Bummer.

Had the chance to visit Madison yesterday and received a solid hookup at the Jenifer Street Market.

Saw tons of stuff that can be hard to come by in Milwaukee and Chicago, Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout (SWBBS), Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barley-wine, Central Waters Peruvian Morning, Founders Imperial Stout, and about a dozen cases of Bells Hop Slam. The real find was the very last bottle of Founders Old Curmudgeon Better Half and with not a trace of price gouging markup! Bless you JSM and bless your beer department manager!!!

They are a very homegrown operation and operate on a budget, so cash or local check only. The beer selection is quite good. Really heavy on the Wisconsin beer, however you can totally find a gem here and there. 90% of the beer is kept in a walk in refrigerator, which is reassuring when picking up a lesser known bomber or six pack. Because of its location I dont make it here often, as the atwood area is not the most accessible of madison areas, but if im around I love to stop in to see what they got.

Stopped by after Great Taste of the Midwest. Nice little neighborhood market with lots of foods and an unexpected craft beer selection. Small beer cooler with tons of beers stashed in there. Freezing Cold. Picked up some nice Wisconsin goodies and Oskar Blues which I cant get in Indiana. I thought they had a nice selection, worth stopping by when in Madison. Not sure who orders their beers but they had some goodies. There didnt seem to be a "beer maestro" around. They only take cash or local check, although there is an ATM in store.

Stopped here and went to the beer room... wow is it cold in there, like 32.0001 degrees F. As for the selection I was rather impressed for a place whose core business isn't probably beer. Found some great deals on beers like Founder's Breakfast Stout among others. For the most part all the beer was in the cold room but some did have some displays out in the regular part of the store. One guy there seemed to know about beer, but joked that they should hire me as I stood in the cooler making recommendations to people. I will go back if I'm in the area, and would be a regular if I lived near by.

Stopped in here during my trip to madison.

Looks like your typical upscale organic grocery store. I made a bee line for the beer and hopped in the cooler. Damn it was cold in there. I could see my breath. Not just a little vapor but a full white cloud with every breath. It had to be like 33 degrees in there. Pretty much all the beer is in the cooler. Very nice selection though. Sixers from all the midwest usuals and actually some I've never seen in Milwaukee. A nice bomber selection.

They had a couple cases of Y2K cosmic charlie so I grabbed a few of those. Otherwise nothing really grabbed me as far rare or unique.

A n ice little store with a solid craft selection.

Transcribed from notes dated Su, 09 Aug 2009.

Affectionately known as the "Jenny Street Market", Autumnal Dave brought me here several years ago when Kathleen was still living in the neighborhood. I used to eschew reviewing beer stores, so I did not take any notes that time. Now, however, I was on the CANQuest (TM), so I made it a point to stop in.

They really keep their beer cold at this place! No kidding, it is in a walk-in cooler whose doors are operated by an electric eye. Just outside the cooler was a rack with several fleece jackets for wear inside the cooler! Good thing I am always wearing one of my beer jackets ...

The bulk of their inventory was unbreakable sixers in bottles, but there were also a good number of single Belgians and single bombers. They really concentrated on the northern Midwest/Great Lakes region, which was fine by me since I fully support "Buy Fresh, Buy Local". Doggone it, though - no new CANs! Oh well. If I were on a standard beer run, I would definitely stop in here.

Its one of those all natural hippy grocery stores in the area, but if you keep your blinders on and walk straight to the walk-in beer refrigerator, you will find yourself in a nice little oasis. (Although beware of the occasional hippy coming to pick up some Samuel Adams.)

I went in there because I heard they had Bell's Batch 9000, but I will definitely be returning to check out the rest of there stuff. Price was very reasonable. Wide selection of bombers.

Note: being the hippy grocery store that it is, they don't take cards, so make sure to bring cash. (this is the reason for the 2 rating on service)

I lived 4 blocks from the Jenny St Market for 2 years and would go there almost daily for groceries and/or beer, so this place holds a special place in my heart. I lived in the neighborhood when they built the cooler, they used to just have an open refrigerated shelf with nowhere near the selection they have now. But now it is easily the nicest beer shop in town. Believe what everyone else has said about the temperature, this is the coldest walk-in beer cooler I've ever been in, but now they offer loaner fleece pull-overs right outside the door of the cooler (yes, really)! The selection is great, there is an excellent selection of Wisconsin and regional micro-brew, a wall full of bombers, a good selection of Belgian and your typical selection of imports and domestics. The cooler is very small but they make great use of every available inch of space. Prices are very reasonable, as Lewis Black said when he recorded a CD at the theater right up the street Wisconsin must have a government subsidy for alcohol because everything is so cheap here. It is cash only so be prepared, but the ATM gives a $1 coupon to off-set the fees. On top of the beer it is an incredible local grocery store with a comprehensive cheese selection, a full deli/butcher counter and fresh produce so you can select some good food to go with your great beer.

Very well stocked Beer Cave. In fact about 95% of their beer is refrigerated. The beer buyer is only in the cooler a handful of hours a week but if you're lucky enough to catch him, like I did, than he a valuable resource for an out-of-towner like me.

The selection was excellent and they were stocking all of the local and regional seasonals that were available in the market at the time.

The only drawback and it only applies to someone from out of town is that they do not have single bottle, mix-a-six sales. Other than that, I'm not sure what else one would want from a craft beer perspective.

The neighborhood atmosphere and friendly staff is a bonus.

Found this place while arriving in Madison for the 2009 Great Taste of the Midwest which was awesome. I had no idea it was such a great event, I plan on going back as long as I can find tickets.

Kind of tucked away in a little neighborhood west of downtown.

Not a huge area but extremley packed with a huge selection of local Wisconsin and local midwestern brews. Lots to choose from.

Also, could've been the coldest walk-in cooler I've ever been in. Walked out with some great buys. Would go back for sure.

first beer store on this particular visit to Madison, rolled in with dirtylou on a Wednesday afternoon, won't elaborate too much as his review is pretty much spot-on

fighting off convulsive shivers in the frigid walk-in cooler, it's clear that Jenny Street would be a regular stop if it were local to me, mostly six-packs with a rack stacked with bombers, there's an expansive selection of locals with great regional representation as well - New Glarus, Ale Asylum, Central Waters, Furthermore, and so on, also some obscure Grand Tetons in large swing-tops stuck out, I picked up a FFF Apocalypse Cow, a Central Waters Bourbon Barleywine, and Furthermore Knot Stock

service looks to be typical of grocery stores...basically nonexistent but not really expected

I came here looking to see what it was about. And like other's said, you've got to freeze your ass off to find some things. But I found a few beers that I couldn't find elsewhere. Most of the beer, at least in the cooler, is craft, and pretty good stuff - the beers I was looking for, with a few outside. I didn't get much service, cash only, but there were a few people around to answer questions if I had them. The selection was decent, a lot of rare and interesting stuff. I was pretty exited. And the prices were right about on par for everything. Not many singles but a few if you're looking for it. This is a good place to go if you're around as far as I can tell. I mean, none of the other places I went to had Grand Teton, and I was exited - I can mark another state off of the list, and the beer seems to be pretty good. Give this place a look over if you're in the neighborhood, probably the best near downtown.

I go Jenny Street Market a lot these days as its enroute to my layfriend's abode

this is an odd little place - bizarre exterior and cash only (though their ATM has a 1$ fee which is refunded to you if you purchase something)

the beer selection is primarily contained in a moderately sized, but packed to the roof with beer, ice-cold cooler. Some beer has spilled out of the cooler into the store - breakfast stout and other sale beers primarily.

the middle of the cooler is pretty much a tower of new glarus, central waters, and other wisconsin new releases. They are sure to have everything that is released from the heavy hitters in the state (new glarus, central waters, ale aslyum, etc). They had more Peruvian Morning and CW Bourbon Barleywine than any other store around. So, if you need the latest Wisco releases, this place will accomplish everything.

theres a pretty nice display of bombers as well that boasts every release distributed form 3F (dreadnaught, gumballhead, rabbid rabbit, bohemoth blonde, etc). All of the southern tier bombers have moved through here (mokah, jahva, oak aged unearthly, etc). All of boulevard smoke stack series is here along with highlights from grand teton, smuttynose, sprecher, victory and many others.

You'll find all of the Founders 4 packs, bells sixers, dogfish head, dark horse, etc etc. Starting to get the picture?

There's a bunch of random stuff that isnt anywhere else too like Upland six packs and way more weyerbacher than anywhere else.

not a huge selection of belgans - there are better spots for those needs.

The prices are typically on lower end of the range in madison but there is no service to speak off - just cashiers.

Great freaking store - somewhat off the beaten path

This an interesting little market with a dam cold walk in cooler. All the other posters were not lying, the walk in cooler is exceptionally cold. The selection and quality of the beer is great. Pretty much every local craft beer is here and stocked despite only having a small corner of the store.

I couldn't comment on the service but there appeared to be a number of people walking about the store who would have been willing to help. A lot more people present than other liquor stores I have stopped in at.

The selection is great, but you will pay for it depending upon what you are looking for. I glanced at the New Glarus prices and saw over a dollar higher per six pack than at Woodman's and turned around and left, so I maybe should have given it a better shake. I do know the Furthermore prices were .50 less here than at Woodman's so if your looking for that, this is the place.

If you want the real extremely difficult local craft beers this should be a place to stop. They had Central Waters, Furthermore, Capital and others. Otherwise, local craft beers distributed well throughout the state can be found elsewhere (Woodman's) for cheaper.

This is a wonderful local market on the east side of Madison. It is located on a very quaint road with very little traffic. Everyone who works there is extremely kind and very helpful. However, there are no workers hanging out in the aisle, so if you need help finding something, you better track someone down yourself. One could not wish for a better place to get food and beer.

Speaking of beer, their selection is astounding! The triangular room where they keep the beer is not very large and it is intensely cold, as the other reviews can attest. However, I would bear the cold with a smile, thinking of all the possibilities in my life. What if I lived right down the street and could walk here after work every day? I might be in heaven. I was amazed that so many beers could fit into such a small room. They do have bombers and other single bottles, just not single 12 oz. Not only do they have beer geek treats, they also give space to the standard economy beers as well. AND space goes to the flavored malt beverages and hard cider/tea/lemonade. So you can imagine how dense everything is in this room and how exciting it can be searching through the endless six-packs of great beer.

While some of the six-packs seemed a bit pricey, others were on the cheap side. This place is worth checking out if you are on the east side. It is also worth moving close to if you would like to live in a safe, friendly, quiet neighborhood with your family and would like a kick ass place for beer right around the corner.

We walked in and HOLY CRAP!!! She could only stand it for a few minutes.

I was in heaven looking at craft beers I have never seen or only wished I could find. In fact I was a little thrown off because I was not expecting to see SO many beers I had not seen before - AND - IT WAS SO FREAKING COLD!!!

I'm not complaining at all though.

No credit cards accepted but there is an ATM. Good prices, awesome selection - to bad no singles
