A 500ml bottle with a BB of March 2015. Picked up recently from Sainbury's as part of their 2013 Beer Hunt. Described on the label as a golden lager brewed with hop varieties from NZ and Slovakia; cold-conditioned on whole cone hops and pressed strawberries. In other words - a nutter's beer....

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear golden-amber hue with light carbonation. Yields a decent head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma of sweet fruitiness: mild strawberry, white grape, melon, grass/hay, light caramel and faint earthy yeast. The strawberry is surprisingly subtle and well integrated. A twinge of diacetyl in the background.

Tastes of light, fruity hops with a mild finish. Notes of white grape, melon, mild strawberry, faint citrus, grass/hay, a hint of caramel, earthy yeast and a whisper of stewed hops. Slightly sweet, with a whiff of diacetyl in the background. A subtle bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and lightly tingly, accompanied by soft carbonation and decent body for the style. Aftertaste of white fruits, grass, stewed hops and faint caramel.

Pretty good but rather odd. The idea of lagering a beer on fruit is interesting though. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are dominated by light fruity notes. Decent body. An intriguing effort that is just a shade too fruity and sweet to be perfect. Can't help thinking that some extra malt would add balance, and I also suspect that the yeast is a top-fermenting strain. Worth trying if you come across it.

Initially has that metallic watery taste known to UK lager but the floral hops and Strawberry come in and make it far more pleasant. Tricky one, improves as you drink more

Well now ain't that a pretty beer. Perfectly crystal clear platinum blonde with a big white head. Aroma of sweet kettle corn and strawberry juice, with a tropical fruity note as well – reminds me of kiwi strawberry Snapple – remember that?!

Thin and snappy, frothy and fruity. Very light, bordering on bland, to be honest, but pleasant nonetheless. Strawberry essence, scones, and a rush of bitterly grassy yet sweetly white peachy hops at the finish. Summery and refreshing! Possible food pairings: burrata, pintxos, chicken and waffles, hummus with lots of olive oil, scallops.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury's (£2):
This one turned out to be a fairly average one from Williams Brothers, it definitely wasn't a bad beer but at the same time it wasn't one that I particularly enjoyed or would go back to again. The beer was sweet throughout but nothing else really stood out for me and I imagine this one will turn out to be a very forgettable beer.

500ml Bottle BBD Feb 2015: poured into a UK pint sleeve on 25th Jan 2014.

Freshly-pressed Strawberries? Not in my glass.

Golden colour, leaning towards orange with a white fading head.

Mild fruit and semi-sweet malt aromas, these carry on into the taste a little too. Didn't come across as a lager at all. Different but not 'my cup of tea'.

Body feel was fine but I didn't take to the strange mixed fruitiness of the brew.

From the Sainsbury's Great British Beer Hunt 2013 collection.

Says lager on the side of the bottle but is unlike any I have come across.

Clear orange/yellow appearance.

Rich aroma of fruity hops.

Light malt reasonably well balanced with the hops. Soft fruit flavour - raspberry and strawberry. Slight bitter bight at the end.

Quite moreish - I drank this with alacrity.

As I said - I really don't see this as a lager. It is more like a hoppy pale ale with added fruit.
