I stopped in here on the way back from Hi-Time on the off chance that I might be able to pick up an extra Firestone Walker 13th Anniversary.
I asked the women at the register if they had any, but she mistook me for asking if they had any Firestone beers. I then asked who I am assuming is "the beer guy". He was kind enough to go in the back and grab me one.
Anyway, on to the store itself, the selection was much better than your standard BevMo. Special releases from Deschutes, Goose Island, etc. Plus, all the usual characters. Still, it's hard to compare selection when you come from Hi-Time to a BevMo (even if it is better than usual).
The service (as I mentioned) was quite good, although I wasn't surprised by this at all--BevMos usually have pretty good customer service.
Anyway, this is certainly not a destination, but it's a good spot to pick up some beers, especially if you aren't hip to the real gems in the area...

In case you planned on going to Costa Mesa and forgot to look at BeerFly, this chain of liquor stores might fit your bill. As with other BevMo's, you can expect to find a good selection of beer and efficenet checkout service. But this particular location is unique for a couple reasons. One, the store itself is very spacious, making it easier to navigate without having to run into other shoppers. And two, the beer is located in the back of the store in a cool, darkish place away from sunlight. The shelves are clean and organized, and the prices are fair. I walked out with a 12-pack of Sam Adams for $9.99, followed by Hacker-Pschorr, Baltika 6, and Altenmunster Doppelbock. Worth a look, but with Hi Times five minutes away, this will have to accept the tough fate of being a second class store in the area.

Visited on Dec. 17, 2007. Checked this place out on a whim to see if they had Firestone 11, and lo and behold they did. Service was prompt, went to the back and returned with my product. I've been here several times before, so I've got a pretty firm hold on the place. Better than average selection for a BevMo, they had Cantillon, which I've only ever seen at the Cypress locale. Other American crafts include the standard BevMo lineup of Anchor, Stone, Bear Republic, Deschutes, several Sam Adams, Firestone Walker, and others. Since Hi-Times is so close this my second choice in South Costa Mesa, but this is a good store, and better than the average BevMo.

This BevMo is better than the others that I've been to (Rancho Cucamonga, Pasadena, Brea, Chino Hills). The beer selection here was larger than any of the other stores I've been to, and there were some interesting ones that you don't see at the others. The glassware selection was on the better side as well. It is very clean and organized as well, whereas sometimes other BevMo's are a little less organized. This is definitely a good stop, although Hi-Time Wine Cellars is just a few streets away and I would give that the beer nod by far over any BevMo.

Ok, so maybe I'm a little over excited to find this place, but It really saved me. I'm in Orange County on business for a month and had no idea where I'd be able to get a good selection of brews. I'm out of my element here...being from Seattle, I'm used to cool, rainy weather this time of year and an excellent selection of local brews in a close proximity. Things down here are generally pretty spread out and though there are some excellent brews from this area, it would take me so long to find them all. The Bev Mo, as it is called, was listed on BA as being close to my hotel and I took some excellent advice to check it out. Plenty of local So Cal and Cal Brews (which is what I was looking for), a decent selection of Belgians and English brews, other US microbrews, and Unibroue Brewery beers in 12oz bottles (4 packs), which is hard to find in my area. I was even able to get a Stone Brewery pint glass for $2.50, which was nice because it would have sucked to have to drink quality beer out of a hotel water glass for a month! The pint glass reads "Fizzy yellow beer is for wussies." I was particularly amused by that statement after filling it with a La Fin Du Monde this evening.

I was driving by after having lunch at the Globe Deli and decided to stop by since i hadnt been in this one yet. This bevmo is pretty much like the other ones i frequent, which is a good thing. A solid selection in a clean store with reasonable prices and nice help... can't beat that.
I was impressed some because this bevmo had cantillon rose gambrinus and beelzebuth and a few others i hadnt seen in bevmo before. Pretty cool (although each bevmo does have something the others dont - some selection is left to the beer manager). A pretty site was the 5 stacked cases of Old Viscosity... daring to be drank.
I was asked if i needed help twice and was always greeted by smiles. I'm glad i dont work out at the gym next door because after my workout, i'd be in here getting more tasty calories.

Has a huge selection. Especially for where I live. Quality was good, they seem to rotate regularly, they take care of the product. Service was good. They come around on occasion to see if they can help. On check out offered a discount card, to be used then and on online purchases. There was a sample table for some new bloody mary mix. Value seemed reasonable. I did not feel I overpaid, as compared to Chicago area prices and other California area stores. Recommend if in the area. After the last visit I found out it is close to another store, and the YardHouse beer bar.

Located in a big Aztec motif strip mall, this Bev Mo is no dissapointment! Clean big and well organized with the hooch and beer in the back right with some coolers and shelved beer. Plenty of domestic and imported choices.
A heavy offering of locals was especially nice for this Vic'ryville BA. I grabbed a few Moylans from an entire line of Moylan's brews, some Bison, a Drake's RIS, Lagunitas, Alesmith IPA, Ballast Point, Full Sail, FarmHouse North Coast, Marin, and a discounted cheese wedge for $1 that was nasty but it was firesale special so that's ok.
The gal behind the counter was super and friendly and even gave me her discount card. A great stop to pick up some solid ofereings. Only Hi-Times has better selection and they are within a 5 minute drive of one another. Most beers are $4 - $6 a bomber which is cheap! Alesmith Speedway was $10.

I actually spotted this store while on a trip to Hi Time Wine, which is only about a half mile from here. We stopped in on our way back to Laguna Beach.
It's located in a super clean strip mall on one of the main drags in Costa Mesa. Inside was very neat and clean, in fact it looked like a new store ( I didn't ask ).
The overall floor space looked a little less than Hi Time's , it's still a huge store, though, with large wine, liquor ,
cheese, and swag departments. The beer area is pretty large, probably the same size as H -T's, but most of the brews are on room temperature shelve's, with 20% or so on display behind the cooler doors. As I'd expect the largest variety of brews were from California brewers, with a decent showing of quality imports and Pac NW craft brews. Not too many Midwest or East Coast craft brews.
They had a few beers here that Hi Time didn't on this 19th of Jan. 2006 beer expedition, most notably Alesmith's Decadence (Yum).
Service was friendly and knowledgeable, with prices about the same or a little higher than Hi Time.
Costa Mesa has two great beer stores in close proximity. If I lived locally I'd shop both of these, but a slight edge goes to H -T due to their much larger cooler selection.
