Bet-Mar is a little store off of St. Andrews Road. The folks at Bet-Mar are always helpful and very knowledgable. I have been to several of their brewing functions and frequent the store. I would reccommend the store to anyone from beginning breweres to experts. The only thing that bothers me about the store is that their selection is a little lacking. I would like to see them increase their stock of grains and hops and maybe a few more stock recipes. However, this is the only brewstore in Columbia so they have the market cornered.

i like the fact that when i started making home brew they didnt make me feel stupid. i know that i asked a lot of probably "dumb" questions. they were always willing to hear me out no matter what i was trying to pull off. they also will print you out recipies if you need and are more than willing to make suggestions if you tell them your ideas. if you are a beginer they will make you feel like youre now part of the home brew community by making you feel at ease with your new hobby- and be warned making home brew is addictive. i always look forward to going in to bet mar and getting my home brew "fix."

The only home brew store in the area, I actually stayed on St Andrews on my last trip through town. Nothing really "great" per say about the place, but it does the job. Pretty decent selection of kits, and starter stuff but not the best at the more advanced equipment. Staff seemed very friendly and willing to help. I was really just stopping in and looking around the last time I was there. A decent stop if you lived here but i dont remember it really catching my eye. Nothing else much to say.

The best part of Met-Bar has to be the people that work there, very helpful and nice people. Also how convient it is to stop by there and pick up some stuff that I need. I live in the Upstate close to Greenville and my parents live in Columbia and my girlfriend in Charelston so if I'm on my way down there I can just stop by. The only problem is the size, very small place with a small selection. The prices are a little pricey also so I actually drive to Asheville to get supplies about once a month but if i forget something in that time frame I can always swing down to see my parents or my girlfriend and grab it then.

I walked into the Bet-Mar knowing little to nothing about homebrewing. I was promptly helped and given everything that I needed to start making my own beer. The husband and wife that operate the store are very friendly, and gladly answer my brewing questions over the phone weekly. I am relatively new to homebrewing (just bottled my 4th batch). I have been making clones of beers that I can't get in SC, and they have all the necessary ingredients. One suggestion for the homebrewing newcomer is to buy the book "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" along with your first beer kit, and read it over before beginning. I am just now reading the book, and am realizing how helpful it would have been to read it before beginning. Or just plunge in and read the book later. Relax. Don't worry. Have a homebrew.

Bet-mar is a great hobby shop, especially for an introduction into brewing. It caters to the amateur and novice brewers, especially with their ready-made brew kits and tons of instructional material. Bet-mar makes it easy to begin to learn the joy of brewing... their staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and of course excellent brewers in their own right. The selection is the only sad part... it's a small place in a strip mall, so there's not a whole lot they can do about it, but they certainly do well with what they have. If in the columbia area, I highly recommend checking this place out.

This place was a little hard to find tucked in the corner of a strip mall just off I-26 (Exit 106) on Saint Andrews Road in Columbia, SC. I was purchasing my first homebrew kit and the young lady working at the time was very helpful and friendly. There were quite a few kits already assembled and ready for purchase. After asking for her advise, I purchased a pale ale kit for $23.95. The kit was complete except for the bags for the hops and grains. Nice selection and resonable prices. Next time I am in the Columbia area I will stop by again.
