The Usaquén BBC is the most recent addition to the bogota trend for craft beers.
And much like its style is- the central theme being Bogotá- this establishment sets itself in one of the most traditional districts in the city- Usaquén- once a city itself which still holds much of its colonial architecture intact. the main square is the location for this brewpub.
You go through the narrow streets and white two floor 200 year old houses, past the church and schools into this locale, set at the corner of the square. The design is a contrast between the colonial town house display and a sophisticated new design on the outside. The terrace seems like the most adequate place to sit at first, because the atmosphere of the square itself- full of restaurants and bars- is extremely pleasing and cozy.
However, the inside seems like a more modern and cozy deco itself than the rest of the BBCs. The trademark red-brick walls are the reminder of the intended british atmosphere. the whole set-up seems more effective than the other pubs, and more modern-focused, with large LCD screens for 'the games' (just as traditional as anywhere in Britain).
what's fantastic about seating inside, tho, is that the big windows and ample space give you a sensation of not necessarily being canned in there, but rather in a sort of terrace itself.
The service is- as usual- very good, comprised mostly of nice lookinng waitresses (yeah, we're chauvinistic) with swift service and good skills. In fact, they can manage the huge crowds that queue to enter or harass them as they're waiting non-stop.
The selection is the usual line-up plus the seasonals (when available), and bottled macros and imports. They're properly served, and doubtless, their house beers have always been great.
The food is also magnificent here, from traditional pub dishes to german sausage. all renamed to fit the colombian capital theme.
This is definetly one of the most pleasant places to have a beer in Bogota. it retains the always good BBC environment and locates itself in a much nicer district than any other, where you enjoy history, culture, anonnimacy and yes, beer.
