Located on some pretty prime real estate, across the street from City Hall in Boston, and right off the Government Center T stop.

Somewhat of a typical faux Irish pub feel, but they try. I took a date there who lived in Ireland for a time, and she said the authenticity was only mezza mezza. She commented a live Irish session band would work wonders over the 80's hair band music that was playing over the speakers. Outdoor seating allowed for a nice festive atmosphere. It was packed with suit types grabbing drinks and dinner after work.

The regular menu items are expensive so if you want to eat cheaper, order off the pub selections.

The beer selection is good. I saw Ommegang, Chimay, Cambridge Brewing, and some others, with the usual Irish Stout fare.

Service was fast but the waitress hardly came over to our table after the meal was served.

A decent place, albeit expensive. For the purposes of my date, it was a great time.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon to find a lot of English Premier League soccer fans. Everyone seems to be rooting for Tottenham. With every play there's a groan or applause. This makes it a fun setting. When the game ended the place emptied out by half.

Beer wise, there are some interesting offerings from the US and some obligatory ones from Ireland (Smithwick's and Guinness). I found four beers I never had before, which is pretty good but I don't know how often the taps are rotated. All of the offerings are micro or smaller.

The service was spotty at best. Even a regular sitting next to me mumbled about the bartender being 0 for 3 on his requests. He couldn't pick up on obvious clues given by patrons. I hate to base a service score on one experience but this seemed to be fairly typical based on some of contents I heard around me.

The food was pretty good. I ordered eggs benedict which was served with Irish bacon (a big plus) but without hollandaise sauce (boo) even though it was available.

Nice interior, a bit of Irish charm to it. Open windows with front seating when I visited (August). Draft selection was decent, some local stuff on-tap and a small bottle selection. Prices were not outrageous comparatively to other places I visited. Wings were quite good. Bartenders were friendly and attentive.

I have been an off and on regular here for about 3 years. The atmosphere is very comfortable, especially in the nice weather when the windows and patio are open. It is a bit pricey for the non-beer drinks but the beers are very reasonable especially considering the selection. They do a great job of rotating each week and they've added an upcoming list so you know what is in line to get tapped. The staff is excellent and have really made me feel welcome and greet with a smile. I definitely recommend coming by for some after work drinks.

Started my day off here since they open at 10:00 on the weekend for brunch. The interior is comfortable, and the windows were opened allowing fresh air in the place. Loads of stone and dark woods here. There is a large outdoor seating area, and plenty of tables inside, including some barrel tabes. Numerous TVs here all tuned to ESPN.

The beer list was quite good here. The beer menu lists all the available beers. On draft they had beers from Allagash, Cisco, Wachusett, DFH, Sierra Nevada, Pretty Things, and Bear Republic and several others. I only had one quick pint, but it was fresh and served up quickly.

The brunch food looked good from what I saw people eating, but sadly I ate breakfast before coming here so I did not try any food.

The beer selection was a nice surprise for me for an Irish bar, and any BA would enjoy this place.

I stop in this place quite frequently with my wife and/or co-workers, as we work in the area.

Atmosphere here is Irish themed, yet roomy and a bit rustic. I'm always very comfortable here. One thing worth noting is that I've had to leave this place a couple of times to catch a Red Sox or Bruins game on NESN, as they don't carry it on their cable account (the last time was a year ago, so this may have been rectified by now).

The quality and service here are top-notch. Everything is kept clean and looking new, and the dining area is nice. The staff has ranged from good to great in the times I've been there. The waitstaff generally don't have the greatest knowledge of the brews, but the bartenders are quite knowledgeable on the whole.

The beer selection is what keeps me going back here. They offer a great selection of bottles (Maharaja among them), and a great number of quality brews on tap. They always have my go-to brew, Loose Cannon, on tap, and the last time we were there, they had a keg of Mad Elf on. Nice.

The food is no slouch, either, which makes this place second to only Red Bones, in my opinion, of Boston places to grab superb beer accompanied by a great meal.

The prices are a little high for brew pub, but standard for the Boston area.

I stopped here for a drink or two while in Boston on business. The place was a bit hard to find on fot but I managed after only getting lost once.

Decorated like a nuevo-Irish Pub. Took a seat at the bar. The stools seemed really low (and I am 6'2".) A decent selection of American craft beer on draft. Offerings from Southern Tier, Berkshire and a few others. About 12-15 tap offerings. Service was slow at first but picked up as the night went on.

Prices were average for the North End of Boston.

Overall, a nice place. I will be back when I am staying in the North End.

We went to Boston for the day and met our son at this place for lunch. Nice place on a Saturday noon.
Large inside, big bar area with tables and TVs, another large dining area. Wood, brick, not too bright, but not too dark either. Pretty oval-shaped bar. Comfortable place.
Good beer list, which seems to change frequently.
I had a couple Troegs Java Head Stouts, which were very nice, with a bowl of chili. Nobody else had beer, but they all enjoyed their food. There is a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which looked pretty good.
Our waiter was awesome. Attentive, but not overbearing, and very helpful.
I would go back to this place anytime I'm in Boston.

I didn't know this place existed for the longest time, but now it is one of my favorites. An Irish Pub setting with big bar area and also a back dining room.

The staff is always attentive and friendly and the beer selection is pretty solid. They are pretty good about rotating several of their taps. You can also get bombers of several beers, including Hoptimus Prime.

From what I have had of the food, it is pretty good. I especially love the homeade chips that come with a Whale's Tail Pale Ale cheddar dipping sauce that is to die for! Plus it has outdoor seating in the summer, which is hard to come by in Boston.

I try and stop in at least once a week and highly recommend this place!

Went there yesterday for the first time in a couple years to meet up with a buddy and it is still the same old solid Irish pub. The decor is very Irish and the wood carvings are neat. The crowd had a nice mix of people. The service was pleasant, not as attentive as some places, but still good. The food was also above average. The nachos were very tasty and make this worth a return trip. The beer selection was actually very good. There were 20-30 different taps, some macro but most local microbrews. The range was from Cambridge Brewing, to Ithaca, to Clipper City. As for price, it was very reasonable for Boston. Overall, I think the Kinsale is a perfect place to relax with a friend and grab a pint or two...Staying longer would not be bad as well.

The décor is upscale "Irish Tavern". The atmosphere at 7pm on a Thursday was loud. Loud conversation from 20- and 30-somethings. I'm guessing it's a popular after work place to go for all the office buildings nearby.

The beer menu was very impressive for an Irish Pub. The only one of the obligatory Guiness-Bass-Harp-Smithwicks flavors was Guiness. The other 19 taps were a good mix with a wide range of Belgian and English Isle styles. Smuttynose Brewery being the best represented with 10 flavors! Very nice to be able to see/taste that variety from one brewery. In particular a New Hampshire brewery that I can't get in my hometown of Chicago. I actually never knew Smutty had such a choice of Belgian styles. I had their Star Island Single, a very nice mild session beer. I also had their Brett & I, a brettanomyces heavy brew that was pretty intense.

Allagash was the next best represented brewery with 4 of their flavors. The last five were singles of various breweries that I can't remember right now.

The service was a bit slow, but not too bad and at least friendly. I had the Zuppa de Pesce "Fish Soup". Except that it wasn't fish soup, but it was a tasty mix of seafood on just-okay linguine. The seafood was cooked just right; not over-cooked.

I'd definitely come back again when I get a layover in the Boston Government Center area.

I used to work across the street from The Kinsale and went there all the time. Last night, a buddy of mine and I went back for the first time in years.

Same old place. Faux "Oirish" interior that brings in a lot of tourists. Big bar with some tvs and lots of seating in the other room.

Service is always good here. Some of the same people are still working here after all these years! They used to have a dude doing magic tricks on Friday nights behind the bar, I guess that is not going on anymore though. Boo. Great trivia night though!

Beer selections is very good. They had Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Smutty Wheatwine, Victory etc..this place has become more of a beer destination for sure since I first went here 7 years ago.

Food is pretty standard faux Oirish pub food. Very filling thats for sure.

Great place if you are in the Govm't Center area and looking for a pint of something decent and possibly some pub grub.

Found this place near our hotel during a recent visit to Boston. I had read that this place was constructed in Ireland and shipped over, which explains some of the impressive woodwork done in the place, the ceiling was also rather neat to look at with the painting done.

The beer selection was better than most Irish pubs that usually only stock Guinness, Harp and the other usual BMC. This place actually had an impressive craft selection, I decided to go with some Southern Tier, otherwise I probably would have went with Smuttynose if it wasn't readily available where I live.

Good place to go to, didn't have the huge lines that the other pubs in Boston seem to have and enjoyed the laid back environment even though it was quite busy.

This place is found near the hotel I usually stay at when I'm in Boston for more than a day and is a welcome treat after a day of festivities in the city.

To add as a note, after my review was posted, the manager asked via beermail if there was anything to improve upon (such as the beer menu). That alone shows that the place is top notch and cares about clientele (even ones from afar).

I give Kinsale straight "4's" across the board because I thin everything there is "good". I agree with a previous review that the decor is a bit "kitchy" as if they tried just a little too hard to make it an "irish pub" but it's certainly not to a point where it's a bad thing.

Most importantly... the beer... They have 20 taps and for right downtown, I honestly don't think you're going to find a better beer selection either on tap or in bottles.

The Kinsale is pretty much across the street from my office so I've eaten/grabbed a beer there at least once a week since they opened (maybe ten years ago now???). I can't remember ever having a beer that wasn't fresh. The selection has dramatically improved over the last few years to the point where you can actually call Kinsale a reputable beer bar.

Prices are decent... not cheap but not over the top for downtown.

I really like the food (hence lunch there once a week). It's usually quick and better than average "pub grub". Go with the chicken club rollup or the peppercorn burger!

If you're right downtown (financial district/Fanueil Hall area) and don't feel like heading out to Brookline (Public House) or Allston (Deep Ellum)... this is the place I would tell you to go.

The Kinsale's faux-Irish decor is a bit on the kitsch side. It's not awful, but I do have to admit that the first time I walked in there was a bit of eye-rolling on my part. Really though it's not bad and generally comfortable. The bar is pretty big with a good amount of seating and there's a separate dining area which allows for quite a few people. It gets pretty packed with the after work crowd especially on Fridays and when they do their trivia night. Big lunch crowd during the week too.

Let's get to the important part: the beer.
They've got a solid list of brews always available year-round in bottle and on tap. Fuller's Pride, Erdinger Hefe, Allagash White, Victory Lager, O'Hara's Stout, Smuttynose IPA, Wachusett Blueberry, Wolavers Organic Brown, Chimay, Hennepin are some of the year rounds. Some uber beergeeks might find these a bit tame, but it alone beats any list in the Government Center/Financial District area. For those looking for the exotic and I would point out the killer seasonal/rotating drafts & bottles Kinsale has which in the past 8 months have included Founders Breakfast Stout, North Coast Old Rasputin, McChouffe, Heavy Seas Loose Cannon & Hang Ten, Sixpoint Bengali, Arrogant Bastard, and Long Trail Triple Bag on tap and Old Chub, Founders Red's Rye & Dirty Bastard in can/bottle to name a few off the top of my head. If you are a Smuttynose fan they always have one of their Big Beers or harder to get Small Batch brews on tap and that is what keeps me coming back. I can drop in here and check out their seasonals before buying a bomber that I might not like. And if it's something great I am within easy striking distance of at least 3 liquor stores downtown that always have a supply of Smutty product that I can stock up on.

The prices are generally decent: $5-6.50 for beers be it bottle or draft and most drafts are available in 16oz or 20oz except for higher octane brews like imperial stouts, barleywines, and the like that are served in 10-12oz snifters or tulips. Some rarer import/high abv 12oz/330ml bottles end up in the $8-10 range and they do have a small selection of bomber size bottles for $15. Ask about prices on the rotating taps that aren't on the menu before you order them. They are usually higher priced, yet fair, since the beers are often hard to get, but I've had the occasional sticker shock.

The bartenders usually have a good understanding of the beers if you've got questions. If you're at a table the waitstaff is hit or miss on their knowledge so if you are on the inquisitive side about your beer excuse yourself from the table and grill the bartender before you decide. And for those you drag along who aren't into beer Kinsale has a full liquor license with plenty of signature cocktails, premium whisky/scotch/bourbon/vodka, and solid wines to choose from.

Food is slightly higher end pub grub and generally good. Nothing earth shattering, but reliable. The prices are in line with most downtown establishments.

It may not be the hippest bar downtown or seem like a beer geek destination on the surface, but currently it's got one of the best beer selections you are going to find without spending a half hour on the train out to Allston/Brighton or Brookline. They've really done a hell of a job bringing their beer list up from what it was not all that long ago, so if you haven't been there in a couple of years do yourself a favor and revisit it and I think you'll be surprised.

Was there Saturday early afternonn, so the place was pretty quiet. Sat at the bar solo. Love the atmosphere and decor of the place; very welcoming and warm. Service from the 2 barkeeps was good; good knowledge of beer, and good conversation about beer.
Had one appetizer, a chicken eggroll that was very good.
Beer selection, while certainly better than average to good, doesn't blow me away. There were about 15 taps? Started with a Hefe to ease in; the Erdinger is nothing special. Moved to their only hoppy choice, Loose Canon which was pretty good. Other craft choices were just a little on the pedestrian side for me; Prima Pils, Allagash White, plus more that I can't remember.
Prices are reasonable, a great place for a cold one when near Government Center or Fanuel Hall.

Hit this place after slogging all over downtown Boston on the Freedom trail in 90+F heat (and humidity), and was in much need of a few cold pints. This place was recommended as one of the best selections downtown, so we took a cab strait from Old Ironsides to the pub. Outdoor seating in the shade consisted of some tall bar tables but also some comfy patio lounges and tables, which we promptly snagged. We did not eat here, I had a Smuttynose Brett & I in the proper glassware, as well as an Impy pint of Loose Cannon, while my wife had a white sangria. All reasonably priced, the beer hit the spot (actually, Brett & I was a bit of a disappointment, especially after the enthusiastic recommendation by our server) and the sangria was pretty good too. Service was fine, selection was pretty damn good for an otherwise generic looking touristy type Irish pub, mostly crafts and a few international staples. Price was probably as good as you can expect for downtown Boston, I think my Impy pint of DIPA was only $5-6. Worth checking out if your in the area and need a pint! We were there Sat. later afternoon and it wasn't particularly crowded, the outdoor patio about 2/3rds full, inside much less so. Pretty well done up inside, tons of 'authentic touches' that make it more Disneyland then Dublin I'd imagine, but cool and visibly pleasing.

The Kinsale is rapidly becoming a "old stand by". Given that it is close to home, has an extensive patio, and the beer selection is SOLID!

Pricing seems to be a sensitive topic but given its location in the center of the Bean I feel that they are not totally outrageous. Beers are a good deal at 5-6 bucks for 20oz pour, food can get out of control, $13 for a mediocre chicken ceasar!? No thank you.

The "craft" draft selection is almost entirely American offerings Lagunitas, Brooklyn, Six Point and the not often talked about but great Clipper City/Heavy Seas.

Go for a pint mid-week for a nice time, steer clear on weekend nights when the interior is infiltrated by way to noisy and pompous 30'somethings

The atmosphere at this place is decent, but it is located in a strange spot right across from govt center and when I was there it was a bit bright. Wasnt too crowded though mostly people getting off of work. The service was very good he knew all the beers on tap and was able to tell off his head which ones had been kicked and been replaced by others. The selection here is defeintly better than most irish pubs in Boston. I'm not sure if this is a new thing, but O'hara's was not listed on their draught menu but when I visited the other night they did have it on tap which was nice to see at an Irish pub. I also had the Hennepin which you dont see very often on tap in Boston. The food was interesting I had the haddock which came with a sort of paella dish (not exactly irish but it was pretty good). I know theres been a lot of talk about getting short pours in Boston lately, but here you were able to ask for either a 16 oz pour or 22 oz. I believe most were 5 for a 16 oz pour while 22 oz pours were either 5.50 or 6 which is pretty reasonable. Nice to see an irish pub dedicating its taps to more than guiness.

The food has been inconsistant too. Sometimes the food is good, and sometimes it tends to be overcooked. I wish they would get the memo and replace the Guinness with the O'Hara's. This is a well-groomed Irish/Celtic themed restaurant that sits near the Goverment Center MBTA stop. Solid service and clean glasses provide the butter to the bread, which is the unorthdox beer selection at this Irish bar. Let's play a game, Family feud style:

Name a beer you'd find at The Kinsale:
- Guinness (ding)
- Bass (BUZZ - one strike)
- Newcastle (BUZZ - two strikes)
- Smithwicks (BUZZ - three strikes)

Okay, it's now the other teams chance to steal...
- Harp (BUZZ!!)

Sorry folks, the only major brand offering at this Irish pub is Guinness. Most of the lineup is craft beer, with examples including Lagunitas, Harpoon, Ommegang's Hennepin, and Smuttynose. There are a bunch of similar Irish pubs near the North End if you want mass-produced beer. If not, then come to the Kinsale. It makes a nice getaway bar after an event at the TD Banknorth Arena.

Hit The Kinsale this past Tuesday night after dinner while in Boston on biz. I had been there a few times before but had not yet reviewed, so here goes.

Upon entering you definitely notice you are in an Irish style pub. Lotsa dark, sculpted wood, an Irish band playing to the left and alot of activity at the bar and the dining areas. There are some tables and booths in the bar area and then a pretty large dining room on the left side of the establishment. There are also a dozen or so tables on a covered outdoor patio. Some large flat screen TVs are present around the bar, which is a large rectangle with probably 25 to 30 chairs.

On to the beers. There are 2 draft trees and a cask line, which was dry on Tuesday night. The beers which were on:

Achouffe Brown Ale
Allgash White
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
Cambridge Amber Ale
DFH 90 Minute
Erdinger Hefe
Fuller's London Pride
Guiness
Harpoon IPA
Ithaca Apricot
Maredsous Tripel
Original Sin Hard Cider
SN Pale Ale
Smuttynose IPA
Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale
Victory Lager
Wachusett Blueberry
Wolaver's Organic Brown

The beers were served at an acceptable temperature, and some in the correct glassware. Our bartender was attentive and offered my drinking partner and me samples. Being near Fanuiel Hall, the pint cost is higher than average, but not too bad for Boston. I didn't eat, but took a look at the menu, and it looked like higher end pub grub. They were serving the full menu after 11PM.

All in all, this place is pretty comfortable and a good beer stop when in the Gov't Center area.

More of a place to get a full meal than to hang out and drink, this is a really decent pub. Food selection is varied and more impressive than your typical bar food. We all had salads and were quite impressed, although I've had the Sheppard's pie before which was not very good. Beer selection is respectable and much better than your average Boston bar/restaurant. Service is highly dependent on the individual waiter and I've had good and bad experiences..One girl quoted the wrong beer to me once and brought it out anyway without confirming the selection. Another time however the waiter was very enthusiastic about beer and discussed several selections with me. Price is pretty reasonable for Boston.
